Detention: January 28th

The Tick entered the Danger Shop, carrying some coffees and with Lockheed trailing behind. The shop had been programmed to look just like his classroom because he was prepared to inflict the deepest punishment he could think to inflict upon a person; he was going to lecture them today.

As the students filed in, The Tick pointed them towards the sign-in sheet.

Once everyone was in and seated, he began to speak.

"Hello, students. You kids have either earned - or in your case, Togusa, had the bad luck to be randomly selected - your time here today. I have coffee, notebooks, and pens for you today. I'm going to lecture you this morning, and then after lunch, you'll be expected to write about what you heard. I'd suggest taking good notes so your essays shine."

[OOC: During the lectures take notes, pass notes (although you will get caught at a certain point), ask questions afterwards, whatever. Lockheed may mock you. There will be a short essay at the end of detention. And the fact that there are no threads after Lunch right now? Means absolutely nothing, really. As for timeframe... well, who can predict these things, really? You'll know when it's over.]

Neatly, so I can read it, please.

"I know that at least two of you are in here for the destruction of school property. I've destroyed a lot of property in my time. It comes with being a superhero. Being thrown into buildings. Jumping around on buildings. Throwing parts of buildings at bad guys. Or mailboxes. Or street signs. Fire hydrants are surprisingly aerodynamic, really."

"Anyway, that's all good when fighting evil. But when hanging out in the dorms, it's unacceptable. Unless it's actually your property. Or if you have permission, like when I helped knock down a wall to turn two rooms into a big suite."

"Anyway, be more careful with that kind of stuff and you won't get into trouble anymore."

"Three of you are here because you showed a lack of respect for other people, two of those other people being each other. Now, you don't always have to respect some people. That can be impossible. I don't respect some of my villains, for example, because they are just WAY too weird. And evil."

"But that doesn't mean you should treat them poorly! You should always show respect even if you have to fake it. I pretend that all of my villains are equal threats, even if they are just a big guy with a zipper for a neck. Or a man-eating cow."

"What does that mean? It means no beating each other up in public! Unless one of you is doing evil and the other of you is fighting for Justice. But even that you should try to talk things through first."

"It also means that you shouldn't mock authority figures to their face. It's just rude."

"Anyway, remember, respect others."

"Karma is a harsh mistress. You think that you and she have a good relationship, that everything is going well. And when that's going well, then everything is going well. And then, suddenly, Karma decides to balance things out and you find that nothing is going well."

"It's a pain, but it's the way of the world. It's why Good and Evil are in an eternal struggle. Either Good or Evil can have the upper hand for a while and all looks sunny... or gloomy, depending on your stance at the fine line between the two. But then, something knocks it all askew!"

"Things here can be going just fine, but then you get picked in a random lottery and sent to detention. Worry not, though! You ended up in detention with me. Nothing karmically bad will happen to you when I'm here, except for maybe hand cramps when you're writing this afternoon."

"Anyway, remember, Karma can be a big meanie."

"Well, I think we've earned a break. Once we're done eating, I'll start explaining the essay topics."

Part of the room transformed into a diner. Whether the cook was NPC or a hologram was unimportant. The important thing is that the food was real. Go ahead and order any typical diner food, talk, do what you will.

Goes here, breaking the flow of any after-lunch activities.

The Tick made sure everyone was back in their seats before he started talking about the essays they would have to write.

"Okay, this morning you heard me describe my views of the general reasons why each of you is in here. Now, what I'd like you to do is..."

The Tick stopped speaking. He had heard a noise. A strange noise. Huh.

"Well. Detention is dismissed. Major K! Help Anders get some medical attention. I've got Archie and Lockheed!"
