Announcement and Refugee Hosting in The Gym, Friday Evening

The P.A. crackles to life.

"We shall be opening our doors to the poor, powerless townsfolk. They are to gather in the gym. Volunteers to help organize blankets, bedding, food, and etcetera would be very welcome."

Smith then walks down to the gym, props open the doors, and walks away. This was going to be a mess, and he felt ignoring it would be the best method to deal with it, rather than letting his head explode. Again.

[ooc: Huzzah! Townies can come to this post for their safety and warmth! Screening is disabled! Students and Teachers are welcome to organize something... but as it's an emergency, we hath not actually organized the refugee effort! Organize! Be Swift! But above all, interact and have fun!]

"Hi..." Teeth chattering Harper looked at the ~~tiny~~ redhead. "What's going on? Who are you? Where's Rommie?"

"I'm not sure what's going on," said Janet, leading him over to where Kiki was distributing clothes, grabbing some, then leading him back to the medical area. "My name's Janet, and you're at Fandom High. I don't know where Rommie is, but in this blizzard, neither you nor I are in any condition to find her. We'll see if school security is around and ask if he can help. Where did you last see her." She tries to start helping him out of his clothes and into the dry ones.

"We were in the lab, on Andromeda," Harper peeled off his shirt. "And they were going to destroy the machine, but Trance, only it wasn't Trance, I mean it was, she wasn't my Trance anymore. She turned it on and the magog..." He looked down at his belly.

"Are you having stomach pain?" asked Janet, looking concerned. She reached out to palpate his abdomen. She handed him a dry shirt to put on. If something additional were wrong, they needed to diagnose it now, to find out how serious it was. He also seemed newly-arrived, and not by his own choice. "Here's the thing: You're on a multi-dimensional island in Virginia. On Earth, if you're familiar with it. Do you know if your friends came with you? Rommie and Trance?"

Fraser wanders over to check on those seeking medical attention and smiles at the new arrival. He smiles at Janet.

"Good evening, ma'am." And then he turns to Harper.

"Good evening, sir. Have you been injured?"

"No, just they're gone," Harper patted his stomach in disbelief. "I don't think so, I didn't se-...we're on Earth?" He started reaching for his blaster

Fraser's eyes dart to the movement of Harper's hand and he subtly steps in front of Janet.

"This is Earth," he says slowly, "And you're safe. If you are, in fact, reaching for a weapon, I would advise you to cease that action immediately. You are in a gym full of people who are unarmed, cold and confused like you are. Firing a weapon will only make your situation worse."

Janet had seen Harper move when suddenly there was a very tall, very cute, though slightly annoying Mountie stepping in front of her.

"I don't know what you're thinking about Earth," she said to Harper while glaring at the mountie's back. "But you're safe here. Stand down. Or you're going to have a hard time getting warm."

Harper didn't pull his blaster, but he didn't let go of it either. "What? And wait here for the Neitzscheans like a good little kludge?"

"Sir, there are no Neitzcheans here," Fraser says slowly. "I'm Benton Fraser, Royal Canadian Mounted Police and head of school security. You are in a gymnasium that's being used as a refuge from the storm. And I assure you, should you pull that weapon, things will get far worse for you."

"No Neitzcheans? No Magog?" Harper relaxed slightly, then frowned."You're a mountie? I thought those where only a myth!"

"I am not a myth, sir," Fraser says. "Mountie's are real. I have several proofs of identification in my room that I will be glad to show you once the storm has passed. For now, perhaps you should turn over your weapon until you're off school grounds?"

Janet sighed and tapped her foot against the floor. "No Magog. And we don't have a philosophy department, or whatever the Neitzcheans are wherever you're from. Please give the nice Mountie your weapon so we can get back to getting you out of those freezing clothing." She shrugged. Not that she could see anything. "He's the school's security officer. He's one of the good guys."

Harper looked at the mountie dubiously, before unbuckling his holster and handing it over. Worst came to worst, he was Seamus Zelanzy Harper, he could build another weapon.

He still kept the forcelance though.

"Thank you," Fraser says, taking the weapon. "I appreciate your cooperation. Now, if you'll just let this nice young lady finish her examination, she'll let you go get some rest."

"Right," Harper eyed the ~~tiny~~ redhead. "She's not gonna poke me with needles or anything, is she?"

~~Janet was sure she'd grown recently.~~ "There's no need for them if you're not seriously ill," she said. Or if he wasn't planning on pulling a gun on her. "I presume from your earlier statement that there is no abdominal pain. So why don't you tell me what Neitzcheans and Magog are while you strip out of those pants and into these ones?" She held out a pair of dry pants.

Fraser smiles, nods and says, "Thank you again for your cooperation. I'll be sure to return your weapon when you leave school grounds. If you need anything else, feel free to come and find me."

He nods and walks away.

"You don't know about the Neitzcheans? Or the Magog?" Harper asked as he pulled off his boots and tool belt. "The Neitzcheans are the Neitzcheans, bunch of ubers, with their genetic superiority this and their social darwinism that. As for the Magog...just be glad you don't know what they are."

"I haven't the faintest idea," said Janet. "Alien species, I presume?" She'd heard one too many 'superior alien' speeches to be completely unfamiliar with the concept of the Neitzcheans, at least. "How are you feeling? Would you like more information about where you are?" She handed him a clean pair of socks--she hadn't been able to get any shoes--and bent down very slowly to pick up an MRE.

"Yeah, or at least the Magog are," Harper replied. "The Neitzcheans are human, genetically enhanced, better in every way than the rest of us kludges." Harper checked his boots, at leat they were dry enough to put back on. "Better, now. We're really on Earth? It seems far too nice."

"You don't sound like you believe the Neitzchean party line," said Janet. She grinned at him. "They sound annoying, actually." She straightened, glad she'd taken a double helping of ibuprofin tonight, and handed the package to him. "The food's palatable ~~barely~~, but it's not that great. Sorry about that. So do you have a name? And yes, we're really on Earth. Maybe a different Earth than you know, though. We have people on the island from a number of alternate universes."

"For all they say they're better than us, in the end they're still only human." Harper shrugged. "Harper, Seamus Zelazny Harper, Chief Engineer of the Andromeda Ascendant." Okay, only engineer, but he was trying to make an impression.

"Very good point,"said Janet. She smiled at him. "Nice to meet you, Seamus. I don't think you're in any danger of hypothermia, but you should keep the blanket. I think they're offering beds to people somewhere too."

"Nice to meet ya too, Red," Harper smiled back. "Guess I'll see you round then."
