Announcement and Refugee Hosting in The Gym, Friday Evening

The P.A. crackles to life.

"We shall be opening our doors to the poor, powerless townsfolk. They are to gather in the gym. Volunteers to help organize blankets, bedding, food, and etcetera would be very welcome."

Smith then walks down to the gym, props open the doors, and walks away. This was going to be a mess, and he felt ignoring it would be the best method to deal with it, rather than letting his head explode. Again.

[ooc: Huzzah! Townies can come to this post for their safety and warmth! Screening is disabled! Students and Teachers are welcome to organize something... but as it's an emergency, we hath not actually organized the refugee effort! Organize! Be Swift! But above all, interact and have fun!]

"Set up a proper poker match and I'll join you," Tommy said. He looked around. "Could ask the kids if they've got anything. If anybody from town ranked Parcheesi high on their must save list, I don't want to come near them enough to entertain them."

"Good point," Fraser says. "I doubt many thought to bring board games with them. However, I'm sure cards can be rounded up somewhere in this place. It is a school after all."

Fraser glances back at the band. "Are you going to take a turn at the microphone, Mr. Gavin?"

"Not unless I start drinking again, pal," Tommy said. "There's a barbershop quartet that'll back me up on that."

"You were in a singing quartet, Mr. Gavin?" Fraser nods approvingly. "Impressive. A man of many talents."

"Oh yeah," Tommy said. He looked like he really wanted a cigarette. "We won awards. Made women weep with joy. It was the time of my life."

"And, yet, you're reluctant to give us a taste of your musical stylings? Mr. Gavin, I bet you could entertain all these people with one song," Fraser says, smiling widely.

"~~Actually I know this one that starts with the letters A-S-~~ Told you, not unless I start drinking again," Tommy said. "And if I do that, I'll be doing a lot funnier things than singing, believe me."

"Maybe later then," Fraser says and smiles. "Mr. Gavin, what do you think about sleeping in shifts? The adults, I mean. I'd hate for someone to wander outside, become stranded and no one knows they're gone."

"Sounds like a plan," Tommy said. "Otherwise it's the kid with the Jewfro in charge of everything and who knows what that'll turn into?"

Fraser doesn't quite understand Jewfro but he leaves it alone. "Very good. I'm not adverse to taking the first shift if you'd like to sleep or we can both do it? Groups of two might be better."

"I'm good for a few more hours at least," Tommy said. "Put me down for whatever shift ends then."

"All right," Fraser says, nodding. "I'm good for awhile longer as well. I'm sure Dr. Pevensie will help out and I have seen some faculty around here."

"Some of the kids aren't half-retarded either," Tommy said. "Could deputize 'em."

Fraser almost chokes but he's able to cover it with a well placed cough.

Ignoring the first comment, he says, "Yes, I believe you're right. I've seen several people in the medical area that seem competant. And Mr. Sandburg is also very alert and intelligent."

"Sandburg," Tommy pointed, "medical chick" he pointed at Alanna "gopher" he pointed at Jarod. "They all look like they wouldn't accidentally set themselves on fire. Oh, and if we're going for adults throw in Jeeves there." He pointed at Alfred.

As Tommy points, Fraser makes mental notes on each person they're recruiting for duty.

"I agree with all those selections, Mr. Gavin." Fraser nods. "And, if they should set themselves on fire, well...aren't you trained to handle that?"

"Yep," Tommy said. "But don't expect me not to laugh."

Fraser shakes his head but finds himself smiling. "As long as the fire gets doused, Mr. Gavin, laughing would be a perfectly fine reaction. If this snow does not let up tomorrow, are you prepared to stay here for several days?"

"Brought everything I own with me," Tommy said. "Plus some supplies from the clinic. I was sleeping on a cot there, I can sleep on a cot here. Same diff."

"Very prepared," Fraser compliments. "You're working at the town clinic or the school clinic?"

"Town clinic," Tommy said. "It specializes in emergency care and I'm certified for that so..." Tommy shrugged, indicating it was a reasonable enough port in a storm.

"Sounds like the town clinic hired quite the capable help," Fraser says, nodding. "And you can prevent fires in your spare time."

"I could if this town had anything even close to a hose, ladder, and truck," Tommy said. "What the hell are they going to do if somebody blows up their house tonight because they were too stupid with candles and gasoline? Ask a wizard to fix it?"

Fraser blinks. "I...wasn't aware there were wizards in town. Vampires? Yes. Unusually colored people? Yes. Wizards? No."

"Just my point," Tommy said. "If something goes up here like a Roman candle, think a species that looks at us like Snickers bars is going to run in and help? Hell, they'd probably wait until we were just the right level of done and leave a tip for the chef."
