The Library Is Open (012/17/06)

Janet came in at the start of second period and opened up the library.

Angel remembered the kid he'd kicked out of his room the other night. "Hey. What's up?"

Walter led Angel to a table away from most of the other students and motioned to him to take a seat.

"I wanted to talk to you about vampires. One in particular who I assume lives in town."

Angel immediately looked serious. "I'm all ears. Which one are we talking about?"

"I don't know. Blonde. Pretty. She terrified Victor Saturday night. Obviously she was playing with him." Walter looks more than serious, he looks ~~homi-~~ vampicidal.

Angel grew even more somber. "Darla. Is Victor okay?"

"She let him run. He's okay now." Not that he had been Saturday night.

"Who's this Darla? And what are the rules around here for that? Back home a vampire coming out and exposing herself like that would be grounds for an execution order."

Angel grimaced. "It's complicated. There's cops and an organization called Wolfram & Hart that protect her. 'course that doesn't mean we shouldn't try to stop her."

Angel paused, realizing what Walter had said. "Back home? You live on a Hellmouth?"

"A Hellmouth? I've heard London called many things, and I'll say that it looked like Hell during the Blitz, but a Hellmouth? No.

"Why?"

"Most folks don't know how to deal with vampires back where they came from," Angel said.

Walter laughed. "It's what I do. I work for the Hellsing Organization. We take out the trash."

"Hellsing?" Angel asked, ~~grateful that his canon allowed for Dracula et al. to be real~~ "The vampire hunter?"

"Yes. Abraham van Helsing founded the organization."

Walter shook his head and laid his hands carefully on the table. "But we don't just go out and kill all vampires, so don't worry about my coming by to cut off your head some night.

"Now, about this Darla..."

"She's the one who made me," Angel said. "She's old, and been around the block a few times... in more ways than one. She won't be easy to take down. Plenty of vampire hunters have tried."

[ooc: Ditto. With a side order Angel thinking that Drac himself is a pretentious twat.]

"She's never met me." Walter's grin is something learned from someone not human.

"But, as much as I'd like to reduce her to small bits, is that allowed?" Some rules you break - golf carts came to mind; some rules you don't - hunting without license was a big one.

"That I don't know," Angel admitted. "I know it wasn't easy to kill me back when everybody had a reason to. Unfortunately my attention was on saving myself and not on the particulars of how."

"Right. Well, I'm not supposed to be working here, but from what I've been hearing about safe walks at night, not everyone is just being played with.

"You know a lot more about this. Who are these Wolfram and Hart people and will they bring her in line?"

"They're lawyers," Angel said, as though that explained everything.

"So more bloodsuckers? Grand."

Walter pulled a cigarette out of his pocket and tapped it restlessly on the table.

"She's a relative of yours, so to speak. Do you have any influence in getting her to behave?"

"Sometimes," Angel said. His eyes flickered down to the cigarette, but he didn't say anything. "I'll have to get my hands on her first. Where was Victor attacked?"

"In the park. She came up to him by the pond." He raised his eyebrows and held the cigarette out to Angel while he fished in his waistcoat with his other hand. "Bad habit?"

Angel turned it down. "You see me smoking, stake me. It's a good sign of evil where I come from."

Angel didn't say it out loud, but there was an unspoken desire to know if Walter's dimension held the same rules.

"Smoking means you're evil?" Walter snorted and thought of every person he knew who smoked. "Next you'll be telling me that gloves or glasses mean you're evil."

Regardless, he put the pack of cigarettes back in his waistcoat and returned to tapping his cigarette on the table.

"Right. Well, I want this Darla person to stop whatever she's doing and I definitely want her leaving my alone. If you think you can get her to see reason, I won't have to do anything."

"I'll sniff around, see if I can locate her," Angel said. "I appreciate the heads-up. And the not staking me on general principle."

"Let me know when you have some news. And stakes are highly overrated." Walter gave Angel a grin and pushed his chair back.

"Come see me in the gym sometime. I want to see what you've got." He made a face. "In a clothed way."

"Was gonna say," Angel gave a slight smirk. "And same here. I need to partner up with somebody who can take me."

There was a slight pause.

"That was less gay in my head too."
