Library, 1/09

[chasingangela]

Angela isn't sure whether she's more frightened by the fact this is her first time opening the library, by the new students, or by the Librarian.

Her stomach is a mass of butterflies as she turns on the lights and takes a place behind the checkout desk, braced for the onslaught.

Janet walks in after Classics, deeply jealous that she didn't think of OCD comment threads last semester, and waves to Angela.

No books to check in. No books to order. Everything was shelved properly before the end of last term. All the paperwork is in order. Janet straightens some papers and grins. "How's it going?" she asks. "Glad to be a full library aide officially now?"

"A little afraid, but glad, I guess," Angela answers. "I got to meet the Librarian yesterday. He's very ... orange."

"How are you?"

"I'm pretty good," says Janet. "He's certainly something else. He seems nice, if a little tough to communicate with."

In between classes, Marty comes into the library to "return" a book he had (ahem) "borrowed" from special collections during the Christmas Holiday.

The fact that he's handling a book with salad tongs might look suspicious.

Janet raises an eyebrow at Marty and slips her gloves out of the drawer in the library. Just in case. "What's going on?" she asks warily, remembering Marty's desperate need to get into Special Collections over break.

Marty flailed just the tiniest bit. "Um... Just returning a book I... uh... found."

"Found?" asked Janet dryly. "I could check the library records, but I don't think you had any books checked out since they were all due back before break."

Angela raises her eyebrows at Marty, recognizing the cover of the book he's handling.

Marty gave her a nervous grin as Janet started to question what he was doing with the book.

Zero comes in bright and early, and stops dead just inside the library doorway with a deeply confused expression on her face. Others might have to step around her, as she may be there a while.

"Zero?" calls Janet from the Collections Desk. "Hello?"

"Have you seen out new boss yet?" Parker asked, assuming her usual perch behind the counter. "Should I be afraid?"

"Hi, Parker. Not exactly afraid, but he is an orangutan. And he doesn't talk. If you just process that and stay calm, he's probably okay? I'm not sure."

Angela rubs her forehead. "I brought Lyta Alexander here as part of the big sister thing and we ran into him. I think he kind of broke her brain, if it wasn't already fractured."

"Ah. Beautiful." Parker grimaced. "Okay. Must research orangutans."

"Yeah, I'm surprised the new kids are handling stuff as well as the are. Although, since a lot of them are *part* of the weirdness," she said, thinking of Blair, "I shouldn't be. Lyta, hunh? I'll have to meet her at some point."

Rory wandered in after fourth period and waved cheerfully at Angela.

"How are things going with the new kids? Anyone have to sing for their card yet?"

"Pretty good. Ms. Calendar is a really good teacher," Rory nodded. "Have you had any classes yet?"

"Hey, Rory." Parker rubs her head. "I completely take back any mockery from when you were three. Completely."

*The Librarian can be seen emerging from special collections. His eyes are bloodshot, his fur is sticking up in tufts all over his body and, if possible, he is shambling with a bit more purpose than usual. If anything, he gives the appearence of an ape who has a very late, very long night and has the headache to show for it. He is carrying a small note card in his hand that contains his distinctive, ape-like scrawl.

He shambles up to the desk.*

"OOOK?!"

At this moment, the Librarian notices Marty (http://www.livejournal.com/community/fandomhigh/484506.html?thread=22069402#t22069402) in the library, turns shapley, and shambles in his direction, ooking in irritation to himself.

Zero has just emerged from her state of catatonia and spied the Librarian. "SQUALL! It wasn't joking! Parker, it wasn't joking!"
