Library, 1/09

Angela isn't sure whether she's more frightened by the fact this is her first time opening the library, by the new students, or by the Librarian.

Her stomach is a mass of butterflies as she turns on the lights and takes a place behind the checkout desk, braced for the onslaught.

"Yes, and it's REALLY MAD that I wasn't here for a month!" Zero is pulling at her hair with both hands. It doesn't look very comfortable. "IT SAID THE LIBRARIAN WAS AN ORANGUTAN. I THOUGHT IT WAS JOKING." She pauses. "Also, it's really mad at Marty for some reason?"

"He was just trying to help me," Angela says in dismay. "This is so very not good."

Then she follows the big orange guy.

Zero calls after her, "It's more mad at me than him, really."

"I'm not sure about that last one, though I can make a few guesses," Parker said, watching the brewing confrontation between their new boss and Marty. "And Zero? I think he understands English, even if he doesn't speak it, soooooo..."

"Should we bring in some coffee to make the Library happy with you again?"

"Yes. Coffee would be good." Zero is still apparently attempting to pull her hair out. She does this when she's upset. "Professor Pierson might've been a touch on the lazy side, but at least we all spoke the same language."

"Well, look on the bright side. If he's insulting us, we can pretend we don't understand. And we won't even be pretending."

"There is that, I suppose. But how the squall are we supposed to know what to do?" She thinks about that for a moment while working on detangling the fingers of her left hand from her hair. "Ow. I suppose we could just do like we did with Professor Pierson and do as we bloody well please?"

Parker reached over and smoothed out one tangle, then shook her head. "I guess. He seems to be getting his point across to Marty. Vehement Sign Language is evidently his second tongue. But forgiveness is easier to ask for than permission, so I say we default to doing what we always do."
