Library, 1/09

Angela isn't sure whether she's more frightened by the fact this is her first time opening the library, by the new students, or by the Librarian.

Her stomach is a mass of butterflies as she turns on the lights and takes a place behind the checkout desk, braced for the onslaught.

[OOC Note: You do need a card to use the library. Might as well take care of it today. OCD threads are here.]

Marty sighs. "Oy vey."

"How was I supposed to know?" asks Janet. She pulls her gloves back out and picks the book up. She checks the computer system to see if it was officially checked out.

Marty starts looking for the closest exit and slowly starts to move toward it in a unsuspicious manner.

Janet raises an eyebrow when she sees Marty move away out of the corner of her eye. She just hoped the new librarian didn't catch him.

"The computer system's running a little slow today," said Janet.

*The Librarian, having just shambled out of SC, having spent the entire night looking for a missing book, notices Marty at the desk, and leaving Parker, turns shapley and approaches. He compares the title of the book to the title written on his card.*

"OOOK?"

*Despite being one syllable, the displeasure and menance is hard to mistake.*

Marty looks at the Orangutan with a look of fear. "Oh boy."

The Librarian storms over to Marty, as best a creature not capable of consistant bipedal motion can, and points directly at him, waving the index card in his other hand.

"OOOK!"

He then points to Special Collections and crosses his arms, glaring accusingly.

"Ooook?"

Judging from that final ook, it might be in Marty's best interest to explain himself. And quickly.

Marty gets the idea pretty quickly.

"I can explain... really!"

Marty points at Angela, "She had gone into special collections without any gloved protection and accidentally touched a book turning her... well turning her into a different verson of herself. So in order to help her I... uh... went into special collections and got that book to change her back."

*coughs*

"And I got turned into a dog."

"He's telling the truth," Angela says fiercely. "I mean, whatever, he broke the rules. But it got me back."

The Orangutan grins ambiguously, which, given that he is a full-grown male orangutan who has just had a very long night, is a very disturbing sight indeed.

"Oook oook oook."

He sounds vaguely unimpressed. He looks around at Angela, raising a rather dishelved brow in a distinctly Ape-Like way.

"Oook?"

((OOC: Is there a day this week/weekend that is good for you (Marty) to play out consequences?))

Marty tries to plead his case. "Look, no one else was even trying to do anything for her... She was stuck... I don't know where. The library was closed."

He looks at Angela.

"I didn't have another choice."

((OOC: I'm free this weekend during the day.))

Angela gives Marty a look that is incredibly full of sympathy and reaches out to squeeze his hand, then turns to the Librarian. "Sir? Could he make it up to you, somehow? Please?"

Marty does his best to look pitiful.

Really he is kind of pitiful, but we don't need to go into that here.

*smirk*

Marty sees the look on Parker's face and snaps at her. "Oh like you did anything!"

Imitates Parker: "What's that? Friend of mine in trouble? Gosh I better fly off to the bahamas to be with my daddy!"

"Some friend you are," Marty mutters.

Parker folds her arms and grimaces. Marty's not entirely wrong, after all. Then she shrugs. "Did I say anything? I didn't say anything." She looks at Angela. "Sorry I couldn't be more help, Angela."

The Librarian looks at Angela and then at Marty, considering this carefully.

"Oook."

If possible, it seems the Librarian just sighed. It is possible, however unlikely, that the orangutan has a heart. He certainly did not, however, squeeze Angela's hand comfortingly. Must have been the imagination.

He then shuffles around the desk, removing a calendar. He taps a large, orange finger on the upcoming Saturday.

"Oook. Oook oook."

He then points at the clock, inidcating that Marty had better be on time.

"Oook!"

Marty feels slightly vindicated and guilty at snapping at Parker at the same time.

Not too much though.

"Hey, Fraiser." Parker is keeping warily out of range of the Librarian. "I think out new boss is unhappy about something. Maybe."

Janet holds up the book and shows Parker the title. "Marty was a bad boy and snuck into SC over break. The Librarian isn't too pleased with him for it."

Parker blinked, then looked gleeful. "I'm surprised he got out of there without damage! And damn, why is there never popcorn when you need it?"

"Damn, you're right, we need popcorn." said Janet. Unspoken--during school hours--goes the wish for accompanying margaritas. "I don't think you can sneak in and not get caught."

"We'll have to pester Angela for details later." Parker smirked at Marty a little more.

"I wonder what his punishment is going to be?" asked Janet idly. "I'm sure Angela will tell us all about it when we ask her."
