Shop Class: 11/29
When the students enter the room, they'll find that it has been turned into a scrap yard again. A standard metal workshop is available as well.
"Today we'll be making a human powered vehicle based on what you find here in the junk yard."
The Rules:
Vehicle must be able to hold four people
Must be able to turn and run on a racing track.
No engines
No welding bicycles together, though bike parts can be used.
Must be safe (Mac will judge)
Helmets must be worn while operating the vehicle.
"Get Started!"

Class Assignment
Re: Class Assignment
Re: Class Assignment
When she sees the extra long, grease-stained and tattered sofa jutting out of one of the piles of scrap, she gets an idea. She places a little octagonal post-it on the end of the couch, saying "Claimed by Cally, thanks", and goes about finding a car axel and some seat belts.
She's planning on strapping wheels, a steering device, some seat belts, and bike pedals onto a couch. She's in an odd mood today, apparently.
Re: Class Assignment
[OOC: Busy busy busy today -- interaction will be very sporadic at best until I get home tonight, so assume he's here and, you know, doing the mindless heavy lifting.]
Re: Class Assignment
And because Anders can lift things, and Cally can build things
and both players are OMGWTF busy, they assemble said device. Complete with stablizing caster weels, two big tires on the sides of the couch, that turn with the steering wheel mounted slightly off center in front of the couch, and there are four sets of seatbelts and a bicycle pedals as well. This whole thing makes sense in Cally's brain. And it will probably move. With a LOT of pedalling effort.
It looks cool, though. That's what really matters.
Re: Class Assignment
Mac gives it a thumbs up for safety.
Re: Class Assignment
Re: Class Assignment
"Oh, I'm sorry," he said, automatically, before he realizes who it was.
"Um," he said, swallowing almost audibly, "I'm sorry about the other night. Gremlin. Ed told me about what happened and stuff."

Finding no wheels that'll work properly with the idea he has, he looks to the teacher with a frown.
"Hey, Mac... is it okay if our vehicle uses a motor, if that motor isn't what actually is responsible for the motion?"
Re: Class Assignment
Re: Class Assignment
Re: Class Assignment
"What kind of wheels are you looking for? Maybe we could figure something out. I mean, if you don't mind working together on this."
Re: Class Assignment
Re: Class Assignment
"I've got some bike gears, chains, and pedals already set aside. Maybe we can use those, instead of the vacuum cleaner?" She smiled, then walked back to her table, and quickly returned with them, dumping them in front of Bridge. "I like the air cushion idea, though--I'm just not sure how it would do on the track."
Re: Class Assignment
Re: Class Assignment
"No engines. The point is to engineer a vehicle propelled by a human. That includes one that allows a vehicle to hover."

Re: Class Assignment
She began pulling wheels and axles out of piles where she found them, making a separate pile. A few that looked particularly good or, she put in a separate pile. Bridge could pick his favorites.
She also made a small pile of chair casters, thinking that they might use those instead, if they were trying to keep the weight down.
Then, remembering Mac's caveat, she also began looking for lap seat belts. They could attach them somehow.
"Poles. We need some way to attach the poles to the raft."
(ooc: NP. Will be AFK between 5:30 and 6:30 EST anyway.)
Re: Class Assignment
And as for the poles, "we could weld them to the oar locks?" he suggests.

DEATH, it seems, has forgotten that not everyone has his sense of balance.*
Re: Class Assignment
smartassdecent project, but pulling apart and putting together junk from the heap with one arm wasn't going to be easy. So until someone decides to come work with him, it's going to be very slow building.Re: Class Assignment
"Use this to help build your equipment until your arm gets better or until a partner shows up."
Re: Class Assignment
Proceeds to make a large box of metal, with no floor and no roof. Four legless chairs are bolted to the sides and the chair next to it to make two rows of two seats. The whole thing is set up on two axels at the very front and back of the box. The front axel has a primitive steering system and is connected to a primitive steering wheel.
The thing is clearly designed to be pushed by foot Fred-Flinstone style by the four people inside.
Re: Class Assignment
crap junkstuff and starts picking out the parts for his vehicle.[OOC: Mun is all haywired right now with much things to do, so may possibly be sporadic at times and wonky at best.]
Re: Class Assignment
"Bonus!"
Re: Class Assignment
John took some bike wheels that were not scavanged yet, and found some wheels that looked like they came off a golf cart or a dolly. He fabs up a rudimentary steering mechanism from some bike handlebars and attatches this to the rudder/tiller control on the paddleboat. He sticks the larger bicycle wheels on the ends of the paddlewheel.
And it was done. John then added 4 life vests for safety.
Race!
"Here you go kids! Have Fun!"

Office Hours/Open Shop
Re: Office Hours/Open Shop
"Hey Bridge! I hope you don't mind me bringing the project idea I had in mind here. If you can get it working and paint it purple you'd be my hero forever. Also here's my cell phone. It started smoking yesterday and of course doesn't work any more. Can you fix it?"
Re: Office Hours/Open Shop
"Between Callynanders and I? Absolutely, dude, not a problem."
Re: Office Hours/Open Shop
Marty points to the object that he hauled up from the junkyard.
"And can you get that done before Christmas?"
