Philosophy classroom: Monday office hours, 10am-2pm

Tara sits at her desk, ostensibly grading but scarcely able to focus on anything. The footsteps in the hall were driving her insane, so the door is closed, but a note sticky taped to the door reads "Open for Office Hours. Please knock."

Phoebe sees the closed door and knocks gently.

"Tara? It's Phoebe."

"Come on in, Phoebe," Tara calls. When she does, Tara smiles gently. "I'm sorry for the closed door. I've got a headache today, and the footsteps are driving me mad."

It's not him. He's not here. He's not allowed on campus. There's a giant white ball to make sure of that. He can't come here.

Phoebe looks concerned and closes the door behind her. "Anything I can do?"

"Closing the door is a good start, thank you, Phoebe. I'll be fine."

Gesturing to a seat on the sofa, Tara leaves her desk to join Phoebe.

"So, how are we doing with the magic-users club?"

Phoebe sits down, but it's obvious she's concerned about Tara.

"Well, we need a name for it and when we'll have official meetings." She smiles. "Monday nights are out as I have Student Council."

"Okay," Tara nods. "We'll have the meetings here? Friday is probably not a good idea... do you know if there are any large clubs that we'd be conflicting with on any of the other days? If not, Thursday is probably best for me, because I'm already on campus."

Phoebe smiles in relief.

"Thursdays work best for me as well. I'm not aware of anything that meets on those days."

After Phoebe Leaves

Maia knocked softly on the door swallowing hard. She had not seen Tara since the Red Appreciate and was concerned.

Maia walks in and looks at Tara briefly before forcing a smile that does not reach her eyes. "Hey Tara. How are you?"

"I'm doing okay," Tara replies honestly. "Not brilliant, but... okay. I'm really sorry about flaking out on you the other night."

Maia nods. "Its ok Tara, sometimes it's just needed. We have been spending a lot of time together." She smiled for real now "Its ok really." She nodded then hestitated. "What happened that night Tara?"

"I wish I knew," Tara replies. "But I don't, and... well, I've got my teacher hat on here. I really, really don't want to be rude, and I know that you're concerned, but I need to stay focused. If I think too much about... um, that stuff..." she shakes her head.

"That stuff doesn't come on campus."

[Reading the note, she wonders what kind of game Tara is playing this week with her students...but she knocks.]

"Oh, god, CJ... must you?" She sighs. "OK. I can do this. Go ahead."

[She smiles gently, her brows furrowed in confusion] I met him last night, and he seemed perfectly nice. Well mannered, maybe a little preoccupied with sin...But Beka says he and Bel got into some kind of fight and that he can...do things. And she said I should ask you.

"He is perfectly nice, CJ. Really. He's just got a bit of a temper, and some... well, some interesting powers. And he doesn't always control them well. And he doesn't like being called nice. It, um, makes him kind of angry.

But yeah, he can... he can bring things out in people. Emotions. By touching them. Pain, desire... I'm not sure what else."

"Thanks Tara," Beka said quietly, opening the door. She stepped through and shut it behind her. "How... how are you?"

"Yeah. Kinda me too," Beka said in a rare moment of total emotional honesty. "I'm sorry I just left last night."

Tara blinks. "Um, Beka? I... I think it's kind of good you did. I wasn't... um, I wasn't really sane. I don't know that you could have helped much."
