The Library Is Open (11/3/05)

Janet dragged herself from Criminal Justice to the library, unlocked it, and tried to decide if she felt like working today sat down behind the Collections Desk. She started checking in books very, very slowly.

"Be glad he didn't aim higher, Parker. Besides, I think he was really trying to get the floor. Poor guy."

Sam grinned at Parker, amazed she wasn't dizzy from the spinning, "Oh, he knows. Jack just caught pneumonia and his Uncle forgot to ask for it back."

"Wow, that was convenient. Remind me to have an ulcer attack the next time I'm about to get busted." Parker smirked. "And maybe he was trying to hit the floor, but I swear I saw House giving him a thumb's up for getting me. Don't *tell* me he didn't get a red lollipop out of that."

"See? It's all about prior planning."

Sam took another bite, then threw the apple core towards a garbage can. Sighing when she missed, she walked over to pick it up and throw it out properly. "He got two, actually. But it's not like he asked for them. He and Doctor House just seem to get along disturbingly well."

"And you're *dating* this guy? Think about that, Carter. What's he going to be like in 30 years?" Parker paused, then grinned. "Oh, never mind."

Carter stuck her tongue out at Parker, then shot a warning glance at Professor Pierson. "If I had to guess? I'd bet he'll be exactly like he is now, but more stubborn, bossier, and with bad knees."

Janet snickered. "Do you that he'll listen to anyone any better?" she asked.

"Not even if he was on fire and we were offering him different ways to put himself out," Sam replied. "He was practically dying of pneumonia and he still bitched about having to take meds."

"Damn," said Janet. "I had hope. No, I really didn't."

"What on earth would make you think he'd get better?" Sam asked. "I mean, it's not like you don't know from prior experience."

"I couldn't possibly imagine." Janet sighed wistfully. "Sudden brain injury? Oh, I know. I'd have gone for grape-flavored antibiotics right away. Or just given him another IV drip of them. And there's a reason we had a drawer of 'hidden' board games in the infirmary."

"That's some heavy duty wishful thinking, Janet. Either of those would have been good. And I'm surprised you don't just sedate him until he's better as standard practice. Such a baby."

"I know. He was so compliant as a Neanderthal. With me, anyway. A girl's got to dream, doesn't she? It was unethical. The ethics committees of the world have yet to meet Jack O'Neill."

"Yes, she does need to dream, I guess. *eg* Oh, he was pretty compliant with me as a Neanderthal, too, if I remember correctly."

"We could introduce him. Send him videotapes from the infirmary."

Janet laughed. "A compliant Jack O'Neill is one of my fondest, most unattainable dreams. With that tank top, how could he not be compliant?"

"We should. It would revolutionize patient care, or at the very least, it would make my life easier."

OOC: I keep trying to talk my friend into vidding Teal'c to 'The Knight of the Woeful Countenance.'

"How sick is it that if he showed up, completely agreeable and compliant, we'd assume he'd been attacked by a gremlin and send him back to the clinic? He could have been uninterested."

"And Doctor Wilson's too, I imagine."

"Either it's completely sick, or it proves how well we know the little delinquent," said Janet. "Did I mention that I started having suspicions about you two during my first week there?"

"I like Dr. Wilson, but he's entirely too sharp for my own good."

ooc: Alternately, I need to get my hands on eps of 'The Critic' and get sound bites of lines about "the kid from Easter Island." Because I could have so much fun with that.

Sam started laughing at the description of Jack. "I'm going to have to start calling him JD. Huh. I wonder what his middle name is? Don't tell me that. Tell me we were really good at hiding things and that no one had a clue what was going on. Tell me there was no betting pool."

"Yeah, there's one or two professors I've got like that, too. Yet another reason to hope no one else goes to the infirmary."

Janet snickered. "You know, I actually know his middle name. It's on his medical records. But I think JD is a beautiful nickname for him. As far as I know, there was no betting pool, and keep in mind that I'm very perceptive."
