Everyday Skills, Friday 2nd Period

Oz was not alone at the front of the Danger Shop (which today resembled a weird hybrid between a kitchen and a laboratory). With him he had a bald, glasses wearing man in chef whites.

"Hey kids. Now one of the more important life skills we're going to cover in this class is cooking, and while I could easily cover this myself, I figured that something so vital needs an expert to help out, so I'd like you to meet my buddy Heston here. He's not the real version, but he'll do. He's going to take you through a few simple recipies. So pair up and put your aprons on."

[Go for it]

Okay, fine. Rebecca didn't know very much about cooking, but it probably wouldn't kill her to learn a little about it, right? She drummed her fingers on the desk, hoping that whatever it was, it wasn't going to be messy.

Oooh, cooking, huh? Stephanie's skills in that department were more or less relegated to "adding a can of water to the Campbell's condensed," "poking a fork through the plastic film of the TV dinner is FUN," and of course "the fine line between a perfectly heated toaster waffle and one that's still frozen in the middle."

She mostly hoped they weren't going to get too fancy, or she wouldn't know where to start.

Cooking, Britta could do. Cooking, Britta didn't think was really that necessary, because half the meals you needed you could probably get from dates, and it didn't take much to make Ramen noodles, and vegetarians had it easy, what with all the salads and celery with mustard and everything.

But, whatever, maybe she could pick up something valuable.

In the past, Bod would have panicked about having to cook considering he'd never cooked while in the graveyard. But, having worked in a diner for awhile now, he'd picked up a few things so he wasn't quite so nervous. He'd make something and make it work.

Awesome!

Karla was going to be so GOOD at this!

Rebecca sized people up, trying to determine who looked potentially good at this stuff.

Or just who looked hot enough that she didn't care. Same thing.

"I so don't cook," Juliet informed Rebecca in a murmur. Which was perhaps less a request for partnership than a warning.

Hmm. Who to cook with, who to cook with? Decisions.

Thaaaaaaaaat was going to be kind of a tough one, eh, Steph?

"Would you like to pair up?" Rilla offered.

The cooking wouldn't be so bad if it was just Britta failing, but of course they had to pair up. Britta was going to look like she was above any of this, mostly because she didn't know who to pair up with.

"Cooking," she commisserated for anyone who would listen. " What is this, home ec?"

And then a light sparked in Britta's eyes and her jaw dropped as she realized that this class basically was home ec, just with a less obvious or gender demeaning name.

"...those jags!"

"Jags?" Was that a new recipe? Rapunzel liked learning new recipes!

Richie wasn't going to poison anyone, at least. The food might not be edible if it was something too fancy, but it wouldn't kill anybody.

But maybe, he thought as he looked around for a potential partner, there was somebody else here who could do better.

"Okay," said Rebecca, eyeing the setup. "How do we start this?"

Great, like Juliet knew.

"I guess we mix the ice and the water and put them in a bowl?" she hazarded anyhow. "And melt the chocolate."

Which Juliet had absolutely no intention of doing. She'd burn it.

Nobody was getting any helpful answers out of Peter today, that's for sure. The only reason he'd left his room at all was because he'd finally decided that the humiliation wasn't quite enough to justify risking summary execution-by-bomb, and now he was sitting here, looking as inaccessible as possible.

Also partly because he had no idea how to cook and he'd never seen anyone do it the old-school (AKA 'not via a machine') way prior to Fandom, so he was pretty much useless anyway.
