Aesthetics of Badassery [Monday, Period One]

Bond's class actually had a teacher this week, and had been told to meet him at the Danger Shop, which was set up as a high-end bar, with a wide array of bottles behind it and the ubiquitous coffee and pastries on top of it.

"I apologise for my unavoidable absence last week, though I understand that Bobby performed admirably, and would like to state for the record that chess is one of the more badass games out there," Bond said, leaning against the bar. "But for those of you with differing opinions, I hope this week's is more to your satisfaction."

"Now, even if you have no interest or desire in consuming alcohol, which should be all of you, given you're underage in this state, the fact remains that having well rounded knowledge of the various kinds of alcohol, be they wines, beers, or in today's case, spirits, will improve your badass credentials in the eyes of many, especially if you are able to pull off that trick of being able to not only name the kind of drink in a blind tasting, but also to narrow down where it came from." Not that Bond had ever tried impressing anyone like that. Not that could be proved anyway.

"So today you'll be experimenting with making cocktails, there are refrence guides if you want to try existing recipes, or you can attempt to devise your own. Since the drinks are all simulated, there will be no actual alcohol content in anything you try." It would probably be wrong on a number of levels for him to give them real drinks, and besides they already had Caritas for that. "This exercise is merely so you can understand how various tastes work or don't work together."

"Oh. No one here," he said, realising she'd misunderstood. "I mean, I would but. Uh. I think the dates went okay! No one threw their drink at me!"

Yeah, she was pretty well convinced he was slow with anything girl-related. It would've maybe been easier if he liked boys. "Bobby, I meant to ask who were your dates and are you going to see them again?" Obviously.

"Well, we go to school together so probably," Bobby told her. He was helpful. "But Lucrezia and a girl who looks like Kate but isn't and Kenzie and Petra who's kind of mean and ...some other girl. Lucrezia was pretty? She wore an old-fashioned dress."

[identity profile] puppywithatutu.livejournal.com 2011-09-21 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
Well that was interesting. "There's a girl who looks like Kate hanging around? Hmm...these don't sound promising. How do you feel about the old timey people?"

"Yeah, she's Canadian though, and she likes school," he explained. "I don't want to discriminate based on time period. But it'd be weird if someone didn't believe in the moon landing."

"Weird," Caroline said, trying to wrap her mind around a potentially nice Kate. Creepy.

"On both counts. Seriously, how do people not believe in astronauts? Like, half my third grade class thought they'd get to go into space. That makes me a little more wary of the medieval type. I'm always freaked out, like they're in the middle of a play and my clothes are going to make it all anachronistic." She liked things to match their time periods, okay?

[identity profile] notlikejack.livejournal.com 2011-09-21 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
"Why would they be in the middle of a play if they were talking to you and you didn't know the lines?" Bobby asked wonderingly.

Re: Make Drinks! - AoB [04]

[identity profile] puppywithatutu.livejournal.com 2011-09-21 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh my God, do you take everything people say this literally?" Caroline asked, totally not answering his stupid question.

[identity profile] notlikejack.livejournal.com 2011-09-21 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
"I was just curious!" Bobby said. "It was weird though. I felt like I should bow or kiss her hand or something but I didn't know what. So you're right about the play thing."

[identity profile] puppywithatutu.livejournal.com 2011-09-21 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
"This is my point, it's weird. You should totally try to go out with her," Caroline suggested. "I'll even help you get ready so you don't wear something totally geeky and ruin things before they get started!"

[identity profile] notlikejack.livejournal.com 2011-09-21 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
"I wore a suit to Saturday! That wasn't totally geeky, right?" he said. "...also if she's from a long time ago then she wouldn't know I'm geeky!"

He was too excited about that.

[identity profile] puppywithatutu.livejournal.com 2011-09-21 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh God, like, with a tie?" Caroline was already cringing. "Even medieval people should be able to tell when you're blathering on about something no one knows anything about. Or if you randomly harp on what they call their underwear."

Re: Make Drinks! - AoB [04]

[identity profile] notlikejack.livejournal.com 2011-09-21 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
Bobby frowned. "Why was a suit bad? I wore one to Homecoming last year, and that's sort of the same thing. It's respectful! And you started the underwear thing!"

Re: Make Drinks! - AoB [04]

[identity profile] puppywithatutu.livejournal.com 2011-09-21 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
"Because a three minute date is not the same as Homecoming," she said, thinking that part should've been obvious. "Suits are totally reserved for formals and church. Were you at church on Saturday? Did God want you to date five girls in fifteen minutes?"

Re: Make Drinks! - AoB [04]

[identity profile] notlikejack.livejournal.com 2011-09-21 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
"...oh," he bit his lip. Thanks, Caroline, destroy his entire fashion sense. "Then I better get you to help next time if you still will."

Re: Make Drinks! - AoB [04]

[identity profile] puppywithatutu.livejournal.com 2011-09-21 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
"Of course I'll help! There is nothing I love more than dress up." And getting fresh subjects to use as dolls.

Even if Bobby wasn't quite a shape she'd shopped for before.

Re: Make Drinks! - AoB [04]

[identity profile] notlikejack.livejournal.com 2011-09-21 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
And now that sounded ominous. Bobby was not quite so sure that 'dress up' was supposed to include, well, him.

"I don't think boys play dress up." Yes, it was a totally sexist statement.

[identity profile] puppywithatutu.livejournal.com 2011-09-21 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
"No one said I played at it, no matter who calls me Vampire Barbie." She couldn't help the nickname fit well, not matter how derisively intended.

Re: Make Drinks! - AoB [04]

[identity profile] notlikejack.livejournal.com 2011-09-21 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
Bobby ducked his head to stop the snicker at that nickname from forming. "Who calls you vampire Barbie?"

[identity profile] puppywithatutu.livejournal.com 2011-09-21 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
"No one I consider a friend," she shared pointedly. "Unless you want me to pretend you're my Ken doll to dress up." Thankfully she kept her mouth shut about how anatomically correct he was.

[identity profile] notlikejack.livejournal.com 2011-09-21 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
"...I don't think that would be a good idea," Bobby pointed out. He saw the looks Jake shot him when he was talking to Caroline.

Re: Make Drinks! - AoB [04]

[identity profile] puppywithatutu.livejournal.com 2011-09-21 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
Caroline was pretty sure Jake always looked like that in this class. "Then I guess you'll just have to be good and trust me. But first you need a date."

Re: Make Drinks! - AoB [04]

[identity profile] notlikejack.livejournal.com 2011-09-21 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
Would that be because the class was a hot teacher, two guys Caroline flirted with and Bobby? "I trust you," he replied instantly. The date part might be harder. How did you ask someone out on a date? He'd tried the poetry thing once. It didn't work.
