Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part III

Once people got through their introductions and initial brain breaking, some of them would surely want to sit down. Luckily, there were plenty of tables and chairs set up across the lawn, some in the shade, some out in the open, some close to the buffet, and some in as much of a shadowy corner as one could get in an outdoor space with no actual walls. It was all part of the Fandom experience, really.

[OCD is up! This is the SECOND post for general mingling. Use this post if your browser can't handle the comment load of the first mingling post. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Lucrezia's mood was improving as the day progressed. The food was exquisite, and sitting on the floor feeding her dove felt like a proper picnic, even if there were no cushions and no handsome Moors to feed her figs.

She banished the last thought from her mind, brushed the crumbs from her fingers, and scanned the crowd, looking for people whom it might prove useful to befriend.

Among the various other kinds of people Bruce had made a point to talk to today, a girl having a picnic with a dove had to make it onto the list, even if it was getting to be late in the day. "Enjoying the picnic?" Bruce asked as he approached.

"I am, I thank you," Lucrezia said, smiling a greeting to the newcomer. "I would have suggested cushions, for those who prefer to sit. Perhaps a shaded canopy."

"That might be pushing our luck too much. Sometimes you have to settle for picnic benches and nice weather," Bruce said, half-joking. "But hopefully the company makes up for what's lacking."

The food looked really good, but Ryan's stomach hurt too much for her to think about eating. Still, she was not going to let that ruin her day. She claimed a nice shady spot on the lawn and sipped ginger ale while watching the crowds.

"Hey, Ryan," Bruce said, making his way over. "Congratulations. You're officially no longer one of the new kids."

"I'm a bit surprised I've survived so far!" said Ryan, laughing. "For a while there, I was sure that I wouldn't be returning for the fall, but this place isn't so bad after all."

"Once you get past the initial strangeness of pony teachers and gremlins, it's actually a good place to learn," Bruce said. "I'm sorry I haven't checked in more regularly. It's been a busy summer."

Hank wasn't shirtless. Or dirty. What he was was dressed in a cheap plastic Ratman Halloween costume, and holding a large, professionally-made sign that said "WELCOME NEW BEES".

And he was grinning at people, although you really couldn't tell through the mask.

Cassel was still milling around, snacking on chips and people watching. He didn't think he'd ever get bored of it.

Toby's eyes were starting to get that glazed, unfocused look (not that he really was aware of that) that came with being distracted easily. However, he was determined to stick out the picnic and not retreat to his room, so. Here he was, still in the thick of things, though perhaps not watching where he was going as well as he should have.

Bruce had spent a good amount of time being social earlier. Now he was going to start to settle in around the outskirts of the picnic where things were a little bit quieter.

If he had Alfred around, now would be the time he'd probably start covering for Bruce."

Scully had settled in with a small plate of food and a large drink, studying the new people, trying to figure out if there was a theme. It might be 'medieval princess', if so.

"See anyone interesting yet? I promised Momoko that I'd tell her all about the new kids that she missed out on," said Lion-o, returning from the buffet with another over-loaded plate.

"I think I saw dragons," Scully said, giving Lion-O a cordial smile. "Or, well, at least tiny flying lizards," she added, nodding over to the white-haired girl looking a little shell-shocked. "That has to be the stand-out so far. Although several girls look like they're wearing medieval-wear."

"Dragons?" asked Lion-o, raising an eyebrow. "I don't think I've ever seen one close-up before. I'll keep my eyes open for that."

Raven settled at a table on the edge of the picnic. These events were always very emotionally charged, and while she didn't want to miss it, she didn't want to become overwhelmed.

Alice had been sticking to the edge of the picnic because the edge of it meant more shade and really, she wasn't in the mood for sparkling at people today.

Maybe later.

She approached Raven's table. "Mind if I join you?"

"Of course," Raven said, giving Alice a friendly smile. Her table had plenty of shade; she didn't keep her skin so pale without taking some precautions against the sun.

Alice returned the smile and took a seat opposite Raven. "Certainly is an interesting group of new students this time, don't you think?"

Angelica hadn't expected to be in Fandom this long, though she was glad for it. That didn't mean she still didn't feel shy about going to the picnic and meeting new people, however. But she did her best, mingling with the crowd and trying to meet new people.

Having eaten her fill earlier, Surreal had found a shady spot near the action - but not underfoot - where she could read and continue to watch everything going on.

If anyone noticed it was a book on poisons, well, it was part of her education.

Richie had only arrived back from a rather handwavey and to-be-summarized trip to Paris this morning so he was looking a little tired when he made it over to the picnic. But he wasn't going to miss the opportunity to snag some of the free food supply, especially after some of the adventures in cuisine he'd suffered through in Paris while he was there.

He'd loaded up a plate of things and was now scoping out the people. Unlike some he wasn't expecting to ever see an familiar faces here, but there still might be someone interesting. And, if not, at least there had been food.

Jason wasn't shirtless, but he was hot, in the temperature sense, which was why he'd gotten the coldest foods he could get his hands on, and multiple cups of soda in front of him. He might be willing to share if asked nicely, but only a little.
