BWI Airport | Portalocity Lounge | Saturday Morning

Petra was so relieved to find the Portalocity lounge and a banner proclaiming 'Fandom High.' She was pretty sure that meant she was in the right place, even if she did seem to be the first one here, and it meant she could sit down and stop dragging her luggage (two large, new-looking suitcases and an extremely battered green leather overnight case with an Audrey Hepburn decal on top) all over the airport.

She picked out a chair with a good view of the door so she could see new arrivals and sat down with Holly Go-Overnightly in her lap, then pulled her phone out. All her friends were still asleep, no doubt, so texting was out, but surfing the web seemed like a good way to kill some time while she waited for other people to show up. She hoped she wasn't the only new student. That would be awkward.

FIRST!

Getting to the Portalocity lounge was no trouble at all for Rosella; she had even already packed most of her things out of expectation that she'd be able to convince her parents to let her come to Fandom High. Sure, there wound up being about three large trunks worth of stuff, but that was nothing a good cart and some leverage couldn't cure! She did wonder how she was going to get everything loaded into the shuttle that Alexander had spoken of, but surely someone would help.

She tried not to bounce, really she did, but it was difficult. She didn't even have to put any effort into the radiant beam on her face as she looked around to get a good eyeful of her fellow students.

By the Heavens, it felt so good to be out of that castle! And she hadn't heard the word marriage in at least three hours. Bliss. Pure, unadulterated bliss!

Rosella was going to happily take the other girl's thoughts on her luggage as appraisal, meeting her with a very large grin and the smallest dips of a casual curtsey. "Princess Rosella," she offered in return, "of Daventry. And, yes, I would have hated to forget anything." Then she laughed. "I've no sewing machine, but...goodness, now that you mention it, I thinking I just may have left my embroidery kit at home. Isn't that just awful?"

Rosella did not sound in the least bit heartbroken.

Most of the room seemed foreign, to Lucrezia, in dress, in demeanor, and in temperament. That was, excepting the blonde with all of the luggage.

She tested this theory by approaching the other girl and offering her the most proper courtly greeting she could muster. A bow, with an elegant gesture of her hand.

Giulia Farnese would be pleased.

Such a greeting would be quite familiar to Rosella, but she did not find it exceptionally comforting. It was the modernity and freedom afforded to girls on Fandom Island that drew her to it, and any call back to her life in Daventry made her a mite suspicious. She did not instantly recognize the girl as some of the other princesses of the lands, which was odd, since she was friends with most of them, but she seemed plucked right out from home. She wondered if perhaps her mother had sent in a spy...to make sure she behaved...

...so she better behave. Even though it killed her do so, Rosella met the bow with a dip of her own head, a spreading of her skirts in a dignified curtsey, and a smiling face of greeting. "It seems," she said in a light tone, "that even in strange lands, courtly souls may find each other."

Really, she should just be glad it wasn't a prince!

"Are you to attend Fandom High as well?"

Hanna wasn't sure what to expect when she arrived at the lounge. She was still feeling a little bit emotional after giving her mother, who insisted on driving her to the airport, a big hug goodbye just a few moments before.

Now, she was standing in the lounge with her luggage and designer bag, looking around for anyone who might be possible classmates of hers. Hopefully, this wouldn't be too awkward.

Hanna gave a slightly awkward wave back. "Hey. I'm Hanna. And yeah, that's my next destination apparently. Um, nice to meet you."

Rosella had to offer the other other blonde girl a smile. "Are you excited to be headed off to Fandom High?" she asked, assuming, of course, that that's what she was there for, and that she'd feel quite the same as she did about the whole affair.

"Ecstatic!" Hanna said with faux, sarcasm filled excitement. Realizing her tone wasn't exactly the most welcoming, Hanna quickly offered the other girl a genuine smile. "So, um, is this going to be your first time at the school or are you returning from summer vacation or something?"

The girl sure had a lot of stuff, more than Hanna, who also had a good bit of luggage herself.

Lucrezia was uncertain of the typical greetings of this era. She couldn't simply bow, as she had with Rosella, nor did she know if it was impolite to approach a stranger and proffer one's credentials.

She might have stayed silent if not for her examination of the other girl's luggage, and her own impulsiveness.

"You have a beautiful bag."

It was as if she had a sixth sense for designer labels. She'd learn soon enough.

"Thanks! This one's Coach." Hanna grinned. "Wow, another blonde. There seems to be a lot of us around here."

There were no absconded Luthor scions in the terminal, and even if there were, they'd be nearly twice Lex's age (if he was reading the date on the paper right), so just ignore the bald kid in the expensive jacket and the Warrior Angel shirt that looked like it'd never been worn before.

Though Rosella was quite determined to not have anything to do with any boys while she was here at school, she wound up eying Lex a little bit. If only because the light had glinted off his bald head and she thought for a second there was something shiny over there. Imagine her disappointment to discover that wasn't the case...

Lex had three guesses why (one of) the pretty blonde(s) was staring at him, and he was rubbing the first one nervously, while trying to remember how to interact with girls.

Stupid all boy boarding school.

Hanna wasn't ignoring him. For one thing, she recognized an expensive jacket when she saw one. For another, he was the only boy so far. Both definitely worth noting.

"Hey," she greeted, giving a little wave.

Lucrezia, being spoiled, had very little filter at times, and a tendency to say what she was thinking.

Which was why she stared straight at the boy in the room before telling him, quite calmly, "You have no hair."

This should prove helpful, in case Lex had lost his hair in a freak accident five minutes prior to entering the lounge.

It was a far shorter trip than Lucrezia had anticipated; Cesare had believed the institution to be past Ostia, and thus the better part of a day's trip at least, but it was only an hour into the journey that the woods had begun to thin out.

A bare hour after that, and she had found herself here. The servants had left her trunk near her feet, and had departed. She had pressed as many possessions as she held dear into one trunk; the messenger dove was in a small wire cage seated on top of it.

For now, she would wait. The outfits here were startling, to say the least, but perhaps she would only show her ignorance by speaking.

No adult supervision? Not quite.

For lo, there is Jamie Madrox. Professor Jamie Madrox.

"All right students!" Jamie called out as he began to hand out sheets of lyrics (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWO_AIh8drk) to all the students.. "My name is Jamie Madrox and I am one of the many faculty members who will be teaching you this semester. Before we get on the bus I'd like you to all learn this classic song that we'll be singing for the professors picking us up. Please sing it as loud as possible and if there's a guy in red pajamas please make sure you are loudest around him. C'mon people! Join my convoy!"

Lucrezia glanced over the lyrics sheet, wondering if Petra had been right about the singing group.

"What happens if we refuse to sing?" she asked.

Lively faculty members handing out lyrics and encouraging everyone to sing was a delightful change of pace for Rosella. She took the paper happily, smiling with an uncertain excitement as her eyes started to dance over the words. She couldn't help but laugh.

"What a positively silly song!" she remarked with approval.
