Try Not to Die!!!! [Tuesday, July 12, 2nd period]

This time, the person greeting the class at the end of the causeway was tall and blond, rather than short and blonde. He also wore shoes. Well, big stompy boots, but the details weren't overly important.

"First of all, thank you, Jedi Veila, for handling class last week. I'm Master Skywalker, this is Try Not to Die!!!! and hopefully you've all returned even after your experiences last week." He gestured to a long table full of Earl Gray tea, scones, and clotted cream. "Please, accept this as a gesture of apology for my not being here last week. I've been told the food is traditional in the place and time we now find ourselves."

Once the students were finished with their snack, Anakin stepped away from the clue box. "Head back into Regency London, students, complete the two tasks as you learn about them, and as always try not to die. See you all on the other side."

Bruce had lost a lot of time with the nitty gritty of being a shrubber, but this was right down his wheelhouse thanks to Alfred. He had to sip from ten cups before fing an Earl Grey, but he recognized the taste immediately and sprinted off to one of the gentlemen.

Fortunately, despite any time lost selling the pies, Marshall was able to make quick work of the tea. Three cups in and the distinctive flavour of bergamot burst across his tongue. He took it quickly to one of the gentlemen of the club and got his clue.

This was completely daunting to Annie, right up until she actually tried it. Someone as obsessively detail-oriented as her could actually sort of remember what she'd had at the start of class, and then she started dismissing any teas that were the wrong color, or that smelled wrong.

She had to try much, much less of the tea than she thought she would have, and almost cheered when the gentlemen said she'd done it right.

Cara wasn't really a tea drinker, but by luck as much as anything she found one that tasted like the one at the start of class pretty quickly.

The man she asked for her clue stared and stammered at her for a while though.

Luke didn't drink tea. Like, at all. It all tasted the same to him. So it took a while for him to find the right cup of tea.

By the time it was all over he didn't want to drink tea again.

Though Wesley had lost quite a bit of time on the sales portion of the class, tea was kind of his specialty. He had only gone through about four cups before he found one of the Earl Grays.

He hoped this was the last activity, because he needed a bathroom kind of now.

By the time Seifer had gotten to Brook's, most of his classmates had already finished. At least that is what he assumed, because he was pretty sure he wasn't first, there was no way anyone else had taken as long with the first task as he had.

Luckily, it only took him twelve tries before he got the tea figured out.

Wow, talk about not up her alley -- Stephanie had hardly had the kind of upbringing where there was room (or, you know, the budget) for cultivating a taste for fine tea. She'd been spending some time hanging around Alfred, so she at least knew what Earl Grey tasted like; it was just that when your tastebuds were that accustomed to Lipton (ew) anything with more subtle flavor was a little overwhelming.

She guessed wrong five times (in her defense, she'd really enjoyed that darjeeling) before she finally found the right cup and got her clue.

Oooh, clues. Detective work! Sort of.

Somewhere, Alfred was laughing at how little attention Jason paid to tea. He was able to knock a few of the cups out for being the wrong color, but Jason ended up drinking quite a bit before finally lucking out.

Lion-o was not a tea drinker. He also couldn't figure out how to differentiate one flavor from another when it came to tea. And when it came to a challenge like this one, drinking every single cup of tea was not the best approach.

It took him a very long time before he finally got the final clue, and he'd need to take a bathroom break before he could check in.

Sam was pretty good at distinguishing flavors -- she just hadn't paid any attention to the tea that was being served at the start of class, having been too busy eating scones. Her method was to taste one, bring it to one of the dudes hanging around, and glare at him until he told her if it was Earl Gray or not. Then she went back, tried tea until she found a different flavored one, and go see if that one was the right one.

Thankfully, she only had to go ask about the tea twice before she got her clue. Whether this was because Sam found the Earl Gray or the gentleman in question just didn't want her coming up and glaring at him any more was something only said gentleman would ever know.

While Jim wasn't exactly comfortably familiar with pretty much anything from Earth that was edible with the exception of Twinkies and potato chips, he'd grown up helping out in the kitchen at his mother's inn, and he was actually trying to learn what things were, now.

So it took him a couple of tries, and a bit of tentative sniffing before actually putting a few cups to his mouth (they all smelled like, surprisingly, tea), but he eventually did find the right one. Thank goodness.

Scully was pretty familiar with Earl Grey anyway; it was one of her mother's favorites. It took her about six tries, but then she found it.

"Yes!"

Hank sniffed the cups, stalked them, examined the steam rising off them, and even pulled a piece of string out of his pocket and used it to measure them. Sure, he tasted them, too, but he just wasn't at all able to tell one type of tea from another.

Eventually, he just settled on trying one cup after another, and weathering more and more disapproving glares, until he carried over one of the magic ones that resulted in the gentleman handing him a clue.

Damn it. Mercy had skipped the tea and scones, not entirely sure that it wasn't another test the way the candy had been in one of her classes the last time around.

And, not being a huge tea drinker, it took her forever to finally get one of the Earl Gray ones to the gentlemen. Next time she'd at least smell whatever food was put out. She'd have easily been able to find it that way.

No, but Tahiri did have to keep smothering a bemused smile; this was far more cruel than last week's tasks, which . . . she didn't mind, really. She'd be happy to be inferior in that particular department.

Bruce followed the final clue, knowing that he didn't do as well as he did last week. Still, at least he made up time with the tea.

This is where I fail at waiting for the OCD and Wes fails, yet again, at navigating his own city.

Here, have some shirtless.
