Try Not to Die!!!! [Tuesday, July 12, 2nd period]

This time, the person greeting the class at the end of the causeway was tall and blond, rather than short and blonde. He also wore shoes. Well, big stompy boots, but the details weren't overly important.

"First of all, thank you, Jedi Veila, for handling class last week. I'm Master Skywalker, this is Try Not to Die!!!! and hopefully you've all returned even after your experiences last week." He gestured to a long table full of Earl Gray tea, scones, and clotted cream. "Please, accept this as a gesture of apology for my not being here last week. I've been told the food is traditional in the place and time we now find ourselves."

Once the students were finished with their snack, Anakin stepped away from the clue box. "Head back into Regency London, students, complete the two tasks as you learn about them, and as always try not to die. See you all on the other side."

As Bruce struggled with the fine control of clipping plants into animal shapes, he realized that it would probably be a good idea to take some kind of practical art class at some point, just in case he needed to carve or sculpt something.

Scully wasn't at all sure of her selling abilities, so yard work it was. Also, it meant she got to work with sharp things. Snip snip! She grinned over at Bruce, and pushed up her straw hat. "What is yours meant to be?"

"Deer. Just like everyone else's," Bruce said, sounding a little snippy, if you will. He didn't really react well to interruptions during work he wasn't very good at in the first place.

[OOC: Sorry for the snippy mood from him!]

It... might have looked more like an abstract cow. But. There was a head?

Dana nodded slowly, and carefully said, "It's very... mammalian." There. That was true.

[ooc: *snerk* No problem at all!]

"Good job damning my work with faint praise," Bruce said, taking a quick look at his very rough but clearly deer-like shrub. "It's trying to get the curves smooth that's killing me."

Scully winced, and offered, "Sorry? I think you have to make smaller snips." At least, hers looked a little more deer-like, even though the top was somewhat untrimmed.

She hadn't been able to reach, okay?

"I wasn't looking for advice," Bruce said, falling into a little bit of determined control freak mode as he struggled. Not really one to ask for help from a competitor during a test of skill, no. "When I finally get the hang of this, it's going to be because I earned it."

Scully held up her hands in surrender, thinking, Your ego's showing, Bruce but judging it impolitic to say as much right then. Turned back to her own deer, and snipped a little under the jaw and neck to make it more Bambi. A few more snips on the side too.

Then she had to go off and find a damn ladder so she could finish the top.

Seifer chose the yard work option, because he figured it couldn't be that hard. Really.

Twenty seven deer later, he was rethinking that idiotic idea.

Stephanie had thought about selling the meat pies, but decided in the end that her need to not know what was in them outweighed her concerns about making a wreck of the shrubbery.

It took a while, let's just say that. Art had never been her strong suit, but she got by mainly on the strength of her drive to do well enough to please. Okay, so said drive led to some overenthusiasm which in turn led to clipping one shrub waaaaaaaaaay too closely and having to start over with a new one, but pfft, as if the gardener could give her a more intimidating disapproving glare than Bruce could.

It might have been harder, but Jason knew that it would take him less time to do physical labor than to sell stuff. He didn't work as quickly as he might have liked though, not wanting to cut anything off accidentally.

It might take Lion-o a while to do all the clipping, but he was pretty sure that it would be faster than trying to sell meat pies.

Sam was tempted at first to go with the meat pies, but then she remembered how miserable it was to work in a chili shop and not get to eat all the chili, and decided that wielding sharp implements was probably the better part of valor for her.

She did pretty well, actually. Years of hanging around Spencer had taught her a thing or two about thinking about art in three dimensional terms. Her first deer looked a little vengeful, and the second was maybe rather more pony shaped, but by the third she was getting the hang of it.

The gardener was a bit nonplussed by the manic glee with which she used the clippers, but he couldn't argue with her work and gave her the next clue.

Jim didn't even know what a deer was. Apparently, they were green?

He had to try a couple of times on the first one, which kept coming out looking more like a pony with some sort of horrible flesh-eating disease, but eventually he managed to get the hang of it, and the other three deer came out looking decent enough for a pass.

The meat pies... too smelly for Mercy. Better fresh cut topiaries.

She took directions well and was strong, so it really didn't take her that long to manage the deer.
