Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

In order to give people a place to get away from the traffic jam of the buffet and information tables, most of the chairs and tables for guests were set up further out on the lawn, under a tall blue and gold tent. There was plenty of room for everyone to sit down and enjoy themselves, but it might not have all been dry. Did we mention being grateful that it was just water falling from the sky?

In between hanging out in the staff area where people could meet her if they actually wanted to, Bo decided that doing her job could be a thing, too, so she spent some time wandering through the picnic making sure that... well, something. It didn't exactly seem like the kind (or size) of crowd that was going to turn into a flash mob, but it couldn't hurt to keep an eye out for weirdness, whether it was coming from the kids, or directed at them.

Mind you, the blue-and-gold umbrella probably cut down on the impressive security image, as did not getting to wear the spiffy mirrorshades she'd found wrapped up in one of the t-shirts. They'd just look stupid in this weather.

"Wow," Claudia said as she walked by. "You really do work security here."

"Well, work might be a bit of an exaggeration," Bo admitted, tipping her umbrella back a bit and smiling. "So far. Nobody's busted any heads yet."

"I've gotten the feeling that at this school, you have to worry more about something invading to bust our heads for us."

"No sign of that yet either," Bo said reassuringly. ...Hopefully. "I did get to meet the leftover from the troll invasion this week, though. Were you here for that?"

Claudia shook her head. "No, I think my first one was the monkey-ponies." It was hard to keep track, after awhile.

"Monkey...ponies." Bo tried to parse that. "You were invaded by monkeys? And ponies? At the same time? I can almost see monkeys--" Especially if they had some kind of mutated Bruce Willis movie ebola or something. "But what do invading ponies do? Nuzzle you to death?"

"Think like centaurs only with monkey heads," Claudia offered. "And evil."

"Ohhhh, monkey-ponies. Right, I get it." No, no, she did not get it. She could picture it, but she in no way 'got' it. Because whatthefuck. "That makes so much more sense."

"You haven't been in Fandom very long, have you?" Claudia guessed.

"Going on two months now. I've met vampires, werewolves, ghosts--" Not that the last two were in Fandom, but whatever. "--a death-god and a troll. Oh, and a clown parade. Just... monkey-ponies. Why? I mean, what universe do monkey-ponies come from?"

"They were built by a crazy biologist," Claudia offered. "So they didn't, like, evolve naturally."

"You know what's sad?" Rhetorical question was rhetorical. "That actually does make sense." For Fandom Island values of sense. Or, fort that matter, Bo's Life values of sense.

Hercules gave Bo a winning smile. "So you are responsible for school security?" he greeted.

He was always a sucker for a pretty face.

Well hel-LO, shirtless. And... pantsless. And huge. "So they tell me."

Bo was always a sucker for a pretty... everything. Kind of the point of her species. "I'm Bo. Did you come over from Atlantis?" Given the outfit, she thought it was a legit question.

Hercules chuckled. "I'm no Atlantean," he said. "Though my lack of pointy ears should have given that away. "I am from... well, I am Hercules. From Greece. And where does the fair Bo hail from?"

"Pointy ears?" The guys in the market hadn't had pointy ears. Bo blinked before adding, "I'm from..." in almost the same tone he'd used. "Canada most recently, but the States originally." As far as she knew.

"Ah, America," Hercules said. "A good place to be from. I have called New York my home for many years. How did you come to guard this fine school?"

He was making small talk, but he was also genuinely interested.

"I'm not sure I'd go that far -- a lot of the kids are better at guarding themselves than anybody else could pull off." With power drills, if necessary. "But I was already bartending on the island, and ending up breaking up some trouble at the school on my way home from work one night. The principal decided some extra muscle wouldn't hurt, I guess."

Was she seriously saying the word muscle to this guy with a straight face?

"...I'm stronger than I look."

"And you look quite strong," Hercules said. "And the fairest bartender I have seen in many years, too. I myself have only come to this island as part of a... redirection of my life."

"Well, thank you." Stupid charming shirtless guys. What were the chances he was a charming undead shirtless guy or something? "And that sounds kind of familiar. Not that I picked the place on purpose, but yeah. Are you here to teach?" It didn't hurt to avoid assuming, she was starting to learn; if Scully could be thirty-six, for all she knew this guy was a student.

Well, he was perfectly mortal. Now.

"I am!" Hercules said. "I decided to let Spider-Man and the other New York superheroes to have all the fun, for a bit."

It had nothing to do with 'get re-acclimated to being mortal' at all, honest.

"Luckily I think the city is in good hands. Though not as good hands as the ones protecting this school."

"Superheroes?" Considering her conversation about capes and tights with Dick, she ought to sound more skeptical, but from a guy built like this, she could almost buy the word.

"I'm Hercules," he reiterated. "As in that Hercules."

He was totally explana-bragging. "The Hercules who did the twelve labors, son of Zeus, all of that."

And again, she ought to sound more skeptical, but. Shunsui. "Hercules as in the god Hercules?"
