Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

In order to give people a place to get away from the traffic jam of the buffet and information tables, most of the chairs and tables for guests were set up further out on the lawn, under a tall blue and gold tent. There was plenty of room for everyone to sit down and enjoy themselves, but it might not have all been dry. Did we mention being grateful that it was just water falling from the sky?

"Pointy ears?" The guys in the market hadn't had pointy ears. Bo blinked before adding, "I'm from..." in almost the same tone he'd used. "Canada most recently, but the States originally." As far as she knew.

"Ah, America," Hercules said. "A good place to be from. I have called New York my home for many years. How did you come to guard this fine school?"

He was making small talk, but he was also genuinely interested.

"I'm not sure I'd go that far -- a lot of the kids are better at guarding themselves than anybody else could pull off." With power drills, if necessary. "But I was already bartending on the island, and ending up breaking up some trouble at the school on my way home from work one night. The principal decided some extra muscle wouldn't hurt, I guess."

Was she seriously saying the word muscle to this guy with a straight face?

"...I'm stronger than I look."

"And you look quite strong," Hercules said. "And the fairest bartender I have seen in many years, too. I myself have only come to this island as part of a... redirection of my life."

"Well, thank you." Stupid charming shirtless guys. What were the chances he was a charming undead shirtless guy or something? "And that sounds kind of familiar. Not that I picked the place on purpose, but yeah. Are you here to teach?" It didn't hurt to avoid assuming, she was starting to learn; if Scully could be thirty-six, for all she knew this guy was a student.

Well, he was perfectly mortal. Now.

"I am!" Hercules said. "I decided to let Spider-Man and the other New York superheroes to have all the fun, for a bit."

It had nothing to do with 'get re-acclimated to being mortal' at all, honest.

"Luckily I think the city is in good hands. Though not as good hands as the ones protecting this school."

"Superheroes?" Considering her conversation about capes and tights with Dick, she ought to sound more skeptical, but from a guy built like this, she could almost buy the word.

"I'm Hercules," he reiterated. "As in that Hercules."

He was totally explana-bragging. "The Hercules who did the twelve labors, son of Zeus, all of that."

And again, she ought to sound more skeptical, but. Shunsui. "Hercules as in the god Hercules?"

That got a momentary drop of Hercules' confidence as he pulled a face, before recovering.

"Well... formerly. And I was technically only a demigod," he said. Except that short time he was the All Father, but that was a long complicated story in and of itself.

Bo vaguely remembered the demigod concept from high school literature class, but the first bit... "How do you get to be a former god? Can you get fired from god-dom?"

"I may have used all my power to set the universe right after my sister attempted to restart the big bang," Hercules said, almost nonchalantly. "It left me mortal and without godly power. But I still have quite the strength and stamina."

Why did Bo even try to figure out where normal fell when it came to Fandom? The scale was always re-setting. "I'm sure you do," she said with a mixture of appreciation and regret. Stupid mortality. "That, ah. Sucks, though."

"I was born a mortal, and a mortal I am again," Hercules said with a shrug. "To be honest, after the years of being a god, it's almost refreshing to be something new all over again. It's like everything is a new discovery, waiting to be found."

"Well, I've never been a god, but I can sure grok thinking it would be refreshing to be normal." Death by succubus, however, she had the feeling was not a new discovery he would like. Congrats, Herc, on your entry to the Friend Zone!
