Jono had better things to do today than take in some bloody picnic. Like chill out with the books. Jonothon liked the books, damn it. The only chewing that he was expected to do on them was only in the most figurative sense, and he wasn't expected to do any socializing or speaking to them, and--

Had Jonothon ever mentioned how much he had always wished for this sort of excuse to avoid the hell out of the Welcome Picnic?

This was because Jono was an antisocial plonker.

Raven hadn't seen Jono at the picnic, but it was Sunday after all, so she knew where to find him. She was still wary of slipping into a nightmare, though she did her best not to let that show in her emotions when she came up to him for a hug. "Hello, Jono, I knew you would be here," she said.

//Am I really that horribly predictable?//

Jono settled into the hug easily enough, even if the whole... welcome picnic thing did have him a bit on edge. Not a semester went by that he didn't manage to unwittingly scare the crap out of someone by talking. He didn't suspect this semester would be any different.

//Or are you just used to my work schedule, by now?//

"Both," Raven murmured, relaxing into the hug. "I do not stay long at the picnics either, since the emotions can be overwhelming and I am always afraid someone will recognize me and think I am evil." Which was pretty irrational if she bothered to think about it, since that had only happened once and it wasn't at a picnic.

//I think I actually prefer when people recognize me,// Jono confessed, giving her a little squeeze before easing back slightly. //At least if they do, that means they already know what to expect.//

Fire. Telepathy. Mutant with a self-worth complex. Same old.

//I think I lucked out, this semester. Having to work through th'picnic, I mean.//

"I do have terrible news," Raven said solemnly, putting on her best Serious Face. Maybe she was being a tiny bit mean, but it was to get his mind off his insecurities, so it was for a good cause!

Well. That certainly got an eyebrow raise out of Jonothon, yes.

//Terrible, hm?//

It must be terrible. Just look at that Serious Face!

"I no longer have my room all to myself," she sighed dramatically. "I have a roommate." Which mean such awful logistical things such as arranging privacy and potential sexiling.

Socks on the door. Socks! On the door! It would be useful, honest!

//Oh?// All the same, that didn't strike Jonothon as too terrible. He'd worked around a girlfriend with a roommate situation before. //Well, I suppose this means that we'll have to go out more often.//

... It was weird, when Jono managed to find the silver lining all in one go like that.

"At least it is not a stranger," Raven said, smiling again because maintaining Serious Face around Jono was far too difficult. "Ariel is to be my roommate now."

//Oh, really?// Heaven help him. //She's one of my little siblings, actually. Not a bad gel to have to share a room with, I think.//

Tiny, cute, overly pleasant, lovely voice, now that she had one. Still seemed sort of oblivious about the fire thing, but that was mostly because he still hadn't just out and told her.

//She'll be understanding, at least, if we need some time alone for whatever reason.//

You know. Any little thing.

"I hope so," Raven agreed, moving to perch on ~~Chamber's door~~ the front desk. "I know you and she are friends, so I did not think she would mind your presence at all. But I have warned her that my sleep is sometimes disturbed." And, well, her waking hours, but that was beside the point.

Jonothon nodded a little.

//I'm certain that she won't mind,// he replied, shrugging his shoulders. //I think th'two of you will get on rather well, really.//

Honestly, he couldn't imagine them not.

"We were already acquainted, so now we will have the opportunity to learn to know each other better, which I am looking forward to," Raven said. "And while I promised not to inconvenience her, she understood that there are times I will want privacy." For meditation, and more importantly, for Jono-snuggling.

[How dare they!]

Naturally, the snuggling was the important part here! What else possibly could be?

//She's got a fair to active social life herself,// Jono noted, pleasantly. For Jono. //I imagine she'll be asking for th'favour to be returned, at any rate. But I'm certain you'll both be able to make something work, mm?//

Raven swung her legs a bit, then tried to hook one foot behind Jono to draw him closer to her. "Then I shall have to come down to your room in that case," she decided. "Assuming that is all right with George."

//I can't imagine George would have many problems with the extra company,// Jono replied, scootching a little closer, still. //She's not exactly a social butterfly, but she's... well... she's George.//

A pushover. But in nicer terms, generally.

Aha! Jono had fallen into her trap, and now she was going to wrap her arms around his neck and her legs around his waist. Everyone was at the picnic, after all, and the books weren't going to tell she was being so brazen.

...she hoped.

"How has your year been so far?" she asked, ruffling his hair with her fingers. "Mine started very well." With no nightmares since the one about Hannibal, so far. Though when she found out he really was a vampire and had almost bitten her, she'd probably faint.

Jonothon took the hair-ruffling like a man. Like a man.

//I haven't been given any cause for complaint just yet,// he decided, resting his hands on her hips. His hair was going to just do its own thing, now.

Bloody hair.

//I suppose we'll see what sorts of new students this semester brings, before I pass judgment on it. But I haven't had any real troubles, not yet.//

Because, you know, he hadn't actually met any of the new students just yet. Imagine that.

She couldn't help herself! She told him she liked touching him. And his hair ~~when it wasn't doing the sticking completely straight up Dracula thrall maneuver, AZAR~~ was a frequent target.

"What classes will you be taking?" she asked, still playing with the hair at the back of his neck. She thought they might have a class together if he'd picked one of the same as she.

//Chemistry,// he replied, thoughtfully, //Psionics, and... er... dealing with idiots.//

He looked more than a little sheepish, admitting that last one to Raven. The second one, meanwhile, had him a touch uneasy.

He'd had a class with Kerrigan before. This semester was bound to be interesting.

//You?//

Raven did wrinkle her nose at the name of the last class.

"I will be taking Paranormal Activity 101, the Art of Pacifism, and What Not to Do in a Fight," she said, then added with a smile, "And we will have Psionics together."

She'd never had a class with Kerrigan before, so she had no idea what to expect, but she did pick up on Jono's unease. "Is there something about that class that worries you?" she asked.

Jono kind of blinked a little. Yes, he was a touch surprised that Raven was in a class taught by Deadpool. He'd nearly signed up for it himself, but there was a definite communication barrier there, and so he'd decided to stick with courses where the teachers would actually be able to hear him.

//I'm not sure,// he confessed. //I can't deny that it's a crash-course in psionics that's been much needed, but Kerrigan has... a very unique view of th'world, when it comes to power and how it ought to be put to use.//

If he'd asked, Raven would've told him it was because Lady Ghanima was co-teaching, and she was a huge Ghani fangirl. Not quite Anakin levels, but she took all of Ghani's classes.

"I do not know Professor Kerrigan at all," Raven said, but now she was curious about this "unique view." "I signed up for her class since my powers are based in the mind...and because I wished to understand yours better."

Awww. Jono was actually kind of flattered about that, yes.

//If by the end of the semester, you understand my powers better than I do, I wouldn't be terribly surprised,// he admitted, sheepishly. //I'm... not really very good at this.//

He could be, but that was a different matter completely.

Raven could have pointed out how it was likely because he resented them so much, but it wasn't the time for it. "I struggle with mine as well at times," she said instead, leaning in closer. "There is always more to learn. And if there is any way I can help you learn, you do not even have to ask."
