Dan didn't know why he braved the stinktastic bog outside the school to come here today. Maybe out of some nerd loyalty. Whatever the reason, he was here and pretending nothing weird was going on because denial was the best medicine. Or something.

William didn't exactly have a lot of (or any) experience with the supernatural, so he wasn't entirely confident of his ability to help. Still, he didn't like the idea of there being something out there that he didn't understand, so here he was.

It probably helped that Sherlock was doing well to completely disregard the 'magical' aspects of the research. It was that or tear his hair out at how utterly illogical it all was.

"Professor," William blinked, actually looked up from his book for a moment to search for where Sherlock's voice had come from. Ah, yes, there he was. "Anything of interest so far?"

...Well, in normal circumstances William would have found it all 'of interest', but he meant in context to their current situation.
