Ethics [Thursday, December 2, 2nd period]

Anakin came into the classroom and shook a small pile of powdered sugar from his robe. Fandom weather was enough to make you sigh some days.

"This semester we've covered six of the seven deadly sins," Anakin began, listing them off on his fingers, "lust, gluttony, greed, wrath, envy, and pride. That leaves us with sloth." He gave the class a brief smile. "Though gluttony might have been more appropriate to discuss right after Thanksgiving, where the tradition seems to be to eat until you burst. Regardless, sloth was originally described as 'an uneasiness of the mind'," he continued. "Apathy. Melancholy. Joylessness. And importantly, the decision not to do anything about it."

He leaned back against his desk. "The modern view understands that the mind is more complicated than that and sometimes it is impossible to will yourself not to be sad. Instead, this sin now focuses on the failure to utilize your talents and gifts." He glanced around the room. "In a school filled with as many talented beings as this one, I think it would be almost criminal to not live up to the potential each of you has. Today, pair up and talk about what your plans for the future are, and how the classes you've taken and the people you've met here will help you in your greater life goals."

You know, a really easy subject.

"Oh, and Mister Starsmore, please see me after class."

Yes, yes that was Rosalind arching an eyebrow and wondering what on earth Jono was stupid enough to have done for him to come to the attention of Master Skywalker.

She was so charitable. Truly.

... Jonothon was doomed, wasn't he? Jono was only ever asked to stay after class when he was doomed.

He shifted his weight more than a little uneasily, and then tried to focus on what in the world he aspired to be, instead.

James gave a half-shrug at Jono's fate, relieved a bit it wasn't him that merited a talk.

Squall stared resolutely at his desk. No reason.

This was one of those things that Cassidy thought about constantly. Therefore, she was writing notes as she looked around for a partner.

And Rosalind, on the other end of the equation, was fairly certain she had her life planned out for how it was going to go.

(And if she died when she was supposed to--well... )

"Cassidy, right?" She knew she was, but it was a good starting place. "Need a partner?"

It wasn't that Kennedy didn't know exactly what she wanted to be-- it was just that she couldn't just make it happen, and it really had nothing to do with growing up, since growing up made it less likely to happen.

Beyond that she didn't have the slightest freaking clue what she'd have picked as an alternate career, except that it sure as hell wasn't doing what her father did, so... hello, look of consternation on her face.

Zatanna saw the consternation, and decided to bond over it. Not because she didn't know what she wanted for her future, but because, well...she was a bit terrified of failure. Just a bit, yes.

On the other hand, she couldn't think of any other job than following the family way of public entertainment and crime fighting, even if she wasn't sure she wouldn't chicken out the next time something nasty happened on Fandom.

"Hey", said as she tried not to look equally worried about her future. "Tough question?"

... Oh, wonderful. Future. One of the many things that Jonothon didn't want to dwell on too hard. Post-graduation, which was coming much too soon, was proving to be a frightening prospect.

Jono drummed his fingers on his knee and attempted his 'if I glare at people, they won't come to talk to me' strategy.

Sorry, not going to work on Elphaba. "Are you planning to be a musician?" she asked, sitting down near him.

The future. Planning for the future.

As a boy, he rarely made plans beyond the next heist. A few caches of clothes and coins throughout the city as forethought, but...

Then Arutha. Banishment from the Mockers. Appointed Squire. Court duties. James had a plan for his future now: the Duke of Krondor, right-hand man to the heir to the throne, running the second-largest city in the Kingdom. His home.

Fine. Talking to people. Whatever.

Since when was apathy a sin?

He shrugged at James. "So talk."

Hi Professor Anakin!

Kennedy-- persistently upbeat, restless creature that she was-- figured she was pretty safe from this particular deadly sin.

Witness her left knee bouncing up and down with hyperactive energy. Or maybe that was just ingesting too much powdered sugar. Or both.

//You wanted to speak to me, Professor?//

Jono was doing an admirable job not looking nervous or perturbed in the least, really. Straight back, slightly raised eyebrows. Completely at ease, if curious.

But, if nothing else, there was that hint of unease lingering underneath over being singled out. That was never good news, was it?

"Hey, Master Skywalker?" Kennedy asked as she approached. "I just want to get it on the record that I'm not actually some kind of deadbeat mom."
