Detention, Early Saturday Morning

Zoe had hoped that she'd be able to get through the rest of semester without having to deal with anyone getting detention, but, as usual, some of the boys had to ruin things by fighting in class.

Instead of doing it in private like sane individuals, of course. Grace was definitely going to learn better than that when she got older.

She'd left havdwavey messages for Percy and Nico to meet her in the school's cafeteria, and was glad when both of them showed up, bright and early as requested. Apparently, they still had a few braincells left in their heads. "All right, come with me," she said, leading them back into the kitchen, and pointing to the dirty pots, dishes, and silverware stacked all over the counters. "These are the dishes from the school's Thanksgiving dinner. When they are all clean, you may leave. If I find even one dish broken, we will do this all over again next weekend. If there is bloodshed, we will do this all over again next weekend. Are we clear?"

She turned and left without waiting for an answer, perfectly certain that she had been clear. Plus, the smell of the two day old food was a little overwhelming, and she wasn't going to stick around in that kitchen any longer than she had to.

"Heads up!" Nico tossed the gloves to his new workers who snapped them on and got to digging in the pile of dishes without even holding their noses. There were some benefits to being reanimated corpses.

Not that they smelled of roses and honeysuckle themselves.

Nico stayed where he was, standing by the opening in the floor, keeping his focus. It wouldn't do to lose it and break a dish after what the principal had said.

"That's pretty amazing," Percy said, watching the dead guys in action. "Anything I can do or should we just stay out of their way?"

"With that power washer you made, I think we're gonna be out of here in no time," Nico replied, rather proud of how they'd worked together to solve the problem.

Yeah, they'd managed to make it work without killing each other. It was pretty amazing.

"Guess detention isn't so bad after all," Percy said, sounding pleased about the situation. "I think I could handle a few of these now."

"Now you're inviting trouble," Nico warned. "Dishes we can handle. Monsters, no sweat. But you know the worst they could do to us." It was terrible. Not something Nico should even speak of when they were on a roll like this.

"Hey, I can't be a little pleased?" Percy asked covering his eyes in case Nico's nipples shot off and hit him in said eyes, glancing at the soldiers. "They're pretty good at that."

"I'm telling them what to do." Lots of thoughts of scrubbing and maybe too many thoughts involving soap. Thank Poseidon for the water boy. "It's weird, I'm better at the slashing and stabbing orders."

"Who isn't?" Percy asked, flicking his fingers towards the water to make sure it was warm enough to get most of the gunk off the plates. He'd learned that from his mother.

"We'd probably get in trouble if we broke the plates with our swords." Ignore the big hole in the ground for the moment.

"Guys not trained with swords?" Nico guessed like an ass. "If anyone sees this, bets are they'll find some reason for us to be in trouble regardless of how many plates die in the effort."

"Should I lock the door?" Percy wondered, glancing at the door. "I dunno, I could try and create a moat or something if we really wanna make sure we're not bothered."

Because that'd go well.

"A moat?" Nico took back his thinking that Percy was ever smart. "Dude, something tells me you couldn't clean up mud fast enough for us to get out of here in time for lunch."

Re: Clean the Dishes

"Hey, just a suggestion," Percy said, making a face. "I could still lock the door and add a nice icy patch in front of it. That'd give us some time if the principal decided to show up."

"Now that we could use," Nico agreed, thinking if they had warning, he could send the scrubbing soldiers back to the Underworld and close up the hole before anyone could break through ice. "Go for it, Pers."

"Okay," Percy said, taking one last look at the shoulders before opening the kitchen door. It didn't take long for him to create some saltwater out of thin air and then to harden it into an icy, thick patch that settled in front of the door.

Then, Percy closed the door and locked it. "Okay, we should be good till we finish up, at least."

"And you can defrost it just as fast, right?" Nico checked, giving a yawn. He was going to sleep well after this.

Re: Clean the Dishes

[identity profile] seaweed-demigod.livejournal.com 2010-11-27 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"Just takes some hot water," Percy assured him, leaning against the door and watching the soldiers do their thing. "You all right? Need a sandwich or something?"

Re: Clean the Dishes

[identity profile] deaths-demigod.livejournal.com 2010-11-27 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"You make sandwiches, too?" Nico dropped to the floor to sit and retain some energy, completely ready to be impressed.

Re: Clean the Dishes

[identity profile] seaweed-demigod.livejournal.com 2010-11-27 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"No, but I can make one so you don't pass out in the kitchen leaving me to both clean up and fill this freaking hole with water. Then, I'd have to explain the new pool in the kitchen."

Percy didn't think the principal would really buy that.

"What kind?" Yes, now was the time for Nico to be picky.

Re: Clean the Dishes

[identity profile] seaweed-demigod.livejournal.com 2010-11-27 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"What kind of sandwich?" Percy asked. "I don't know, whatever I can find. I'm not a menu."

Re: Clean the Dishes

[identity profile] deaths-demigod.livejournal.com 2010-11-27 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"Fine," Nico made the mistake of physically waving him off to make a sandwich. A mistake because one of the Confederate guys took it as part of his instruction and slammed a plate he was drying a little too hard on the counter.

Re: Clean the Dishes

[identity profile] seaweed-demigod.livejournal.com 2010-11-27 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
The plate didn't break but it did crack and Nico glared at the soldier and the partially broken plate before looking back at Nico.

"Nice."

"What do you expect when I'm working with guys who've been dead for over a hundred years? It's not like I'm perfect, here," Nico pointed out, having the soldier hide the cracked plate at the bottom of a stack. "No one will notice until we're long gone," he assured his cousin.

"Fine, fine," Percy replied, trying to dig around in the cabinets to find something that he could make a sandwich with. "You like peanut butter? Crunchy?"

Re: Clean the Dishes

[identity profile] deaths-demigod.livejournal.com 2010-11-27 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"Crunchy's the best," Nico nodded, knowing his peanut butter needs. "Assuming you're capable of spreading it without ripping the bread to shreds."
