Detention, Early Saturday Morning

Zoe had hoped that she'd be able to get through the rest of semester without having to deal with anyone getting detention, but, as usual, some of the boys had to ruin things by fighting in class.

Instead of doing it in private like sane individuals, of course. Grace was definitely going to learn better than that when she got older.

She'd left havdwavey messages for Percy and Nico to meet her in the school's cafeteria, and was glad when both of them showed up, bright and early as requested. Apparently, they still had a few braincells left in their heads. "All right, come with me," she said, leading them back into the kitchen, and pointing to the dirty pots, dishes, and silverware stacked all over the counters. "These are the dishes from the school's Thanksgiving dinner. When they are all clean, you may leave. If I find even one dish broken, we will do this all over again next weekend. If there is bloodshed, we will do this all over again next weekend. Are we clear?"

She turned and left without waiting for an answer, perfectly certain that she had been clear. Plus, the smell of the two day old food was a little overwhelming, and she wasn't going to stick around in that kitchen any longer than she had to.

"What kind?" Yes, now was the time for Nico to be picky.

"What kind of sandwich?" Percy asked. "I don't know, whatever I can find. I'm not a menu."

"Fine," Nico made the mistake of physically waving him off to make a sandwich. A mistake because one of the Confederate guys took it as part of his instruction and slammed a plate he was drying a little too hard on the counter.

The plate didn't break but it did crack and Nico glared at the soldier and the partially broken plate before looking back at Nico.

"Nice."

"What do you expect when I'm working with guys who've been dead for over a hundred years? It's not like I'm perfect, here," Nico pointed out, having the soldier hide the cracked plate at the bottom of a stack. "No one will notice until we're long gone," he assured his cousin.

"Fine, fine," Percy replied, trying to dig around in the cabinets to find something that he could make a sandwich with. "You like peanut butter? Crunchy?"

Re: Clean the Dishes

[identity profile] deaths-demigod.livejournal.com 2010-11-27 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"Crunchy's the best," Nico nodded, knowing his peanut butter needs. "Assuming you're capable of spreading it without ripping the bread to shreds."

"I can spread peanut butter on bread," Percy said, rolling his eyes. "You really think it's that hard? It's not."

"How do I know if you've got basic skills," Nico reminded him with a roll of his eyes. "You have a mom and stuff to do things for you."

He was momentarily distracted by the thought that it'd be hella cool to see if he could get the guys to hum something entertaining while they worked. Nico'd never tried noises before, but they grunted during battle, so there was always the chance...

"Yeah, I got a mom and she got jerked around by a freaking jerk to protect me," he muttered, digging out some bread so he could make Nico a sandwich. "I feel like I gotta make up a lot to her. Light peanut butter or a lot?"

"Lots, thanks. Not the Blofis guy, right?" That guy had kicked some serious monster ass, after all. Nico wouldn't mind him around for a fight. "The one before?"

"The one before, yeah. Gabe," he said, spreading the peanut butter thickly on the bread. "He was a grade A jerk. Bigger than Luke even."

[identity profile] deaths-demigod.livejournal.com 2010-11-27 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"Luke's not such a jerk - oh, you mean like, home Luke?" Nico was starting to hate that there were others.

And that he'd helped bring about the fall of his own Luke without getting to know the guy.

"No, I mean this Luke too," Percy joked, adding even more peanut butter before finally sticking a piece of bread on top of it. "This Luke's a jerk too but in different ways. He's a jerk in an entertaining ways."

Nico felt like Grover, wanting to cry out 'fooooood' when he saw what looked like a complete sandwich. "I would say something, but I really want you to hand me that first."

His undead dudes were nearing the end of their work, but it was getting sloppier with Nico's lack of focus.

"They're not gonna try and eat the plates if you eat this, right?" Percy asked before he passed the sandwich to Nico.

"No, but I can have them attack you if you don't give me that," Nico warned. Only half-kidding.

Re: Clean the Dishes

[identity profile] seaweed-demigod.livejournal.com 2010-11-27 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"You act like I haven't fought off these guys before," Percy said but did hand the sandwich over. "I could take them."

Re: Clean the Dishes

[identity profile] deaths-demigod.livejournal.com 2010-11-27 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, yeah, thanks for the sandwich, I won't hit you," Nico replied, tearing it into two pieces to start eating. "Think anything needs redone over there?"

Re: Clean the Dishes

"Not if your boys did a good job," Percy replied, glancing at the dish washing assembly line. "They look about done. We just need to clean up and stuff."

You know, the hole in the ground.

Re: Clean the Dishes

[identity profile] deaths-demigod.livejournal.com 2010-11-27 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"Right, the clean up." This might get complicated. Nico stuffed the rest of the sandwich in his mouth before raising his sword toward the idling workers. He thanked the former fighters and willed them to return to the Underworld for rest, meaning they all clambered back into the open ground.

Nico concentrated hard and the floor of the kitchen rumbled, smashing everything back into place where it belonged. The only reminder that the boys had gotten help in their task was the giant crack in the tile floor where the hole had been. "'Dat 'ooks 'ad," Nico said around the sticky peanut butter.

Percy rubbed his chin, eyes wide at the sight of that crack. "You know how to weld?"

He was just kidding. Mostly.

Re: Clean the Dishes

[identity profile] deaths-demigod.livejournal.com 2010-11-27 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Nico swallowed down his sandwich with a laugh, "Do I look like a child of Hephaestus?" Not that he knew how welding would help tile. "I say we get out of here fast and act like that was always there." So trustworthy.

[identity profile] seaweed-demigod.livejournal.com 2010-11-27 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hang on, hang on," Percy said, waving his fingers a bit and filling that crack tightly with some water that he'd hardened quickly. It was gonna be icy but at least it made the crack look better.

"Less bad?" he asked, glancing at his cousin.

"So long as no one steps directly on it, we're good," Nico said, looking pleased with Percy's work. "And look how we barely broke a sweat." Even if he was so going to be napping later.
