George had left yesterday's paranoia and settled straight into full-on crankiness. Puck was avoiding her. Look, she didn't think she was his fucking girlfriend or anything, it was just sex, she got that, but avoiding her!? She didn't have the fucking plague.

And maybe she just wanted to talk to him because this week was making everything confusing and going off and losing her virginity to a complete asshole hadn't helped matters any. But he'd disappeared. Asshole.

So now she had to go into the fucking club and -- what? Why was anyone still coming? What the fuck was wrong with them!?

"Why do I have to talk every week?!" George snapped, smacking her hand on one of the desks. "Why can't any of you be bothered to fucking do something, if you're going to show up? Stop coming! And if you're going to show up, then fucking act like you're here and don't just sit there like you think you're invisible! I hate this club! This whole fucking week has been total bullshit and now I have to sit here and talk to all of you people?"

She fell into her seat in a huff. "Everyone with a Y-chromosome, go fuck yourself. That's today's assignment or activity or whatever. Write an essay on why men are scum and which one you'd kill first. Or set something I fire. I don't even fucking care."

George was fighting a war with how fucking cute that kitten was. Because that was a seriously fucking cute kitten. It was like cheating.

She reached out to scritch the top of Joni's head. Dammit.

"The kitten doesn't count," George said quickly. "She's a girl cat."

Yes. Clearly, that was what Jono had meant.

//And if she was a boy cat, lookin' up at you with those big kitten eyes, there?//

If she was going to play it that way, then Jonothon was going to be a horrible person and play devil's advocate.

For boy kittens everywhere.

"Exemption for all cats," George said, reaching to scoop up Joni. If Joni didn't mind, or Jono, either. "Cats are not assholes. Boy kittens are allowed in under those rules."

Jonothon had no complaints, and Joni was purring. Purring like a little tuxedo motorboat.

Yeah, right. Joni thought that Jono's chest was the most cozy part of him in the whole wide world.

"... Sorry?" George said, vaguely aware that that was, well. Incredibly tactless, all things considered. She hadn't thought about the implications of that one in regards to him. "Just ... you know. We're all on edge from this whole ... week."

That was totally the reason she was upset. Really.

Jono was having an excellent week. Hence the kitty.

"No," George said, in the least convincing lie of her life. Which was saying something, considering how bad hers usually were. "Maybe."

She flushed, watching the kitten instead of Jono. "I didn't mean you had to -- stay out all night. You could have come back. Where did you ... end up?"

He was the worst at apathy ever, today.

Okay, from anybody else, that smile would have gotten a sulky fit about how everyone was hooking up but her (never mind that she had hooked up and that that was the start of this tantrum at present) and a shove. Jono?

Jono was kind of -- sibling-ish. Or something. And more importantly he'd been miserable and she was miserable, too, so she knew how that went. And he was on fire. So ... the dead girl and the guy on fire both got some. Same night. Score one for Fandom?

"No. Fucking. Way," she said, and she was almost laughing.

//She's an empath,// Jono shared, that smile not letting up for a moment. //We could kiss, George.//

Which was kind of the most amazing thing ever, when your face was on fire, okay?

"Seriously?" she said. "What, like psychic kisses? That's so fucking weird."

She meant that nicely. As he could tell from the grin.

//Psychic kisses!// A pause. //Well, empathic ones. Or telepathic ones? It's a bloody sight, innit, when th'telepath isn't certain what was going on, except that he could feel it.//

And it had felt very nice, thank you.

"I think feeling it is the important part," George said, giving him a wry sort of smile. "Don't think about it too hard. It doesn't matter how it worked, just that it did."

//It did,// Jono agreed, reaching out to pet the kitty. Squeaky, squeaky kitty. //And how did yer Wednesday go, then?//

Squeaky kitty. Doing wonders for her mood. So was Jono, for that matter. He didn't really get happy like that very often, and it was oddly infectious when he did. So much for holding a man-hating rally in Apathy Club?

"It ... went ... about like you're thinking," George said, awkwardly. So very, very awkwardly. "Guy, sock on door, so ... I mean, hey, I lost my virginity. That's a good thing, isn't it?"

People always said it was. And it was weird, being a dead virgin. So ... yeah. Definitely an improvement. Right?

Jono's look went a little sideways for a moment, while he worked his way through that.

Behold, the awkward shrug!

"It's what everyone says," she said. "And I just wanted to ... I don't know. To feel like I hadn't missed my chance. To feel something instead of just ... feeling alone. And now it's all weird."

Ooh. My.

//Weird in general? Weird for just you? Or...// He inclined an eyebrow just slightly.

You just tell Jono, dear, and then he would stalk off and light mean boys on fire for you.

"I'm not good at being ... close to people," George said. She felt self-conscious admitting that, out loud, but if anyone understood that, Jono would. "So then you get ... really close to someone, as close as anybody can get, and then right after that ... they're just gone. Like they never existed, like it never even happened. It's kind of ... surreal."

Had she warned Jono that she was bad at this? Interpersonal relationships? Not really her thing.

It took Jonothon a minute, but he finally managed to parse all of that.

Yep. Definitely going to light somebody on fire.

"Well, after," she said, frowning at him. Not quite following, herself. "Isn't that just ... a guy thing? It wasn't a big ... romance deal. I didn't think he was going to ... I dunno. Cuddle?"

She tilted her head at Jono. "Did you cuddle?"

Did guys cuddle? She wasn't sure she would have wanted that, anyway. Although there had to be some middle ground, there.

Jono raised his eyebrows a little.

//Well...// Shrug. //I'm generally not th'cuddling sort, but even I'll make exceptions.//

Like, in the event of sleeping with somebody.

"I mean with this girl," George said. Jono's mystery hook-up was a much happier topic of conversation. "Was there cuddling? Is this a ... daaaaaaaaaaating thing?"

Oh, yes. She had busted out the elongated vowels, for this one.

"I don't know what you mean," she said, shrugging. "After was ... hey, I have clothes somewhere, I'll see you around, you're cool, right? That kind of thing. We weren't ... it wasn't anything serious."

//I think so?// Raven had busted out the 'L' word. And Jono had said that he really, really liked her, and neither of them seemed to be fleeing, and he'd made plans to introduce her to Joni on Saturday, too. So. //Yes? Pretty sure?//

And then came the squint.
