Apathy Club, So Many F-Bombs In This One, Some Classroom or Other, This Can't End Well
George had left yesterday's paranoia and settled straight into full-on crankiness. Puck was avoiding her. Look, she didn't think she was his fucking girlfriend or anything, it was just sex, she got that, but avoiding her!? She didn't have the fucking plague.
And maybe she just wanted to talk to him because this week was making everything confusing and going off and losing her virginity to a complete asshole hadn't helped matters any. But he'd disappeared. Asshole.
So now she had to go into the fucking club and -- what? Why was anyone still coming? What the fuck was wrong with them!?
"Why do I have to talk every week?!" George snapped, smacking her hand on one of the desks. "Why can't any of you be bothered to fucking do something, if you're going to show up? Stop coming! And if you're going to show up, then fucking act like you're here and don't just sit there like you think you're invisible! I hate this club! This whole fucking week has been total bullshit and now I have to sit here and talk to all of you people?"
She fell into her seat in a huff. "Everyone with a Y-chromosome, go fuck yourself. That's today's assignment or activity or whatever. Write an essay on why men are scum and which one you'd kill first. Or set something I fire. I don't even fucking care."
... Just another cheerful day in Apathy Club!

Re: Today's Topic: The Male Gender And Your Hatred For It
//One of th'first things that Didi told me once it became apparent that we were attracted to one another was that we couldn't be together,// he noted, after a moment.
Just in case she wasn't aware.
//I'm a mortal. She's Death.//
Re: Today's Topic: The Male Gender And Your Hatred For It
"But ... you couldn't," she said. "I mean, she's gone, right? So that's ..."
That one time was apparently not going to be today.
"... I mean ..."
At least she felt marginally bad about it?
Re: Today's Topic: The Male Gender And Your Hatred For It
He would have taken a deep breath, to steel himself, but that was just one more impossibility to add to a long list.
//Everybody leaves, sooner or later, George. Death is that one thing that we all have in common, and it'll pull people apart in the end... but while yer together, what is there to stop you but th'knowledge that it'll end? Everything ends. If you avoid happiness on those grounds, then why ever bother living in th'first place?//
Re: Today's Topic: The Male Gender And Your Hatred For It
If they wanted reapers to be automatons, they shouldn't make them out of people. People had feelings. People longed to connect. It was innate. It transcended death.
Re: Today's Topic: The Male Gender And Your Hatred For It
Jono shrugged a little.
//Yer here, George. And so is everybody else. Rube can blow it up his arse if he expects you to ignore that. And if he doesn't like that suggestion, point me to him, and I'll tell him about th'year that loving Death kept me from throwing myself at it.//
Re: Today's Topic: The Male Gender And Your Hatred For It
"I thought it would help," she said. "That it would show me that I really was alive, and able to be a part of things. But I don't think it did."
Re: Today's Topic: The Male Gender And Your Hatred For It
//Lord, George. You've got it all confused, don't you?// He reached out to give Joni a gentle scratch behind the ears. //Sex isn't living. Sex is fucking. Putting life on hold for a bit for th'sake of losing yerself entirely to th'whims of yer body. It's fun, and it's noisy, and then it's messy and over, all at once. But it's not living. Not if wanting to live is the only reason yer doing it.//
Re: Today's Topic: The Male Gender And Your Hatred For It
"It ... wasn't the only reason," she admitted. "I'd had a bad day, and I just -- wanted to stop thinking and ... I mean, the whole week has been sort of ..."
Erm. Puck was hot. Puck made her knees melt whenever he kissed her, and he'd promised to take care of her and make her feel unbelievable, amazing things. And he had. That part, George had no complaints about.
Re: Today's Topic: The Male Gender And Your Hatred For It
Jonothon lifted his shoulders a little.
//The island isn't helping as much, granted. But I wouldn't stake th'whole of yer humanity on a one-night-stand after a bad day, when the entire population's gone absolutely barmy.//
Re: Today's Topic: The Male Gender And Your Hatred For It
Really nice. Like happy-good-feelings nice.
Enjoy the overshare, Jono!
Re: Today's Topic: The Male Gender And Your Hatred For It
//Well... Are you upset because you think you ought to be, or are you actually upset?//
Re: Today's Topic: The Male Gender And Your Hatred For It
"I think ... I'm actually upset," she said, "but just feeling a little ... I don't know. Hollow. After he left like that. It was kind of ... abrupt."
Re: Today's Topic: The Male Gender And Your Hatred For It
Re: Today's Topic: The Male Gender And Your Hatred For It
Wasn't that what people did? Leave afterwards? She was not exactly familiar with the whole ... traditions involved, here.
Re: Today's Topic: The Male Gender And Your Hatred For It
//... Just... like that? He wasn't a stranger, then, was he?//
George, your roommate is a snoop.
Re: Today's Topic: The Male Gender And Your Hatred For It
The willingness to steal pharmaceuticals? Maybe she'd been hanging around Mason for too long.
Re: Today's Topic: The Male Gender And Your Hatred For It
She also didn't seem certain if Jono was a friend of hers, and so he was going to withhold judgment on the Vicodin thing, at least for a bit.
//So, yer friends. You know one another passingly well, or at least have swapped names by this point. You slept together, and then he made a break for th'door, presumably with enough time to pull his trousers on before he did so.//
Re: Today's Topic: The Male Gender And Your Hatred For It
It was like asking someone who was tone-deaf to describe an orchestra. 'There were some big wooden things, over there, and the shiny metal ones in the back.'
Re: Today's Topic: The Male Gender And Your Hatred For It
//And he's fine with yer being a reaper?//
Jono was trying to figure out whether or not the shiny metal ones were trumpets or tubas, here.
Re: Today's Topic: The Male Gender And Your Hatred For It
Like magic! Magical tubas that played themselves and might or might not be trumpets. Or clarinets.
Re: Today's Topic: The Male Gender And Your Hatred For It
//I know asking this one might be a stretch,// he said, at length, //but how did he seem as he left? Awkward? What?//
Re: Today's Topic: The Male Gender And Your Hatred For It
Re: Today's Topic: The Male Gender And Your Hatred For It
Now they were getting into the really fiddly things, like how maybe the piccolo had been a fife all along.
