Okay, so Jono was a little late getting himself into the library today for his shift, what with having to travel back from Vail and all, but he showed up as soon as possible, considering.

So soon, in fact, that he still had his bag of laundry and his guitar with him, both of which were sitting behind the desk while he set to work, re-shelving books and silently, very silently, chuckling to himself.

Once again, it looked as though he'd gotten off easy today, didn't it?

//They were sitting right next to th'window.//

Oh, god. He felt guilty over onions.

"Oh, no," Ariel said, hands going to her mouth because she wasn't laughing, really. Honestly. "Burning them is good, though! Remember! Quick fire! No slow painful chopping!"

//They were asking for it,// Jono grumped, crossing his arms over his chest and being generally cranky now, mostly at himself.

They had been asking for it. Literally, yes.

//This naffin' island.//

"I don't suppose mentioning the unicorns would help any," Ariel said, "but just look at yourself! You're still you today! That counts for something, right?"

//Yes, I supppose. I didn't spend this morning freaking out and trying to find clothing that fits, at least.//

He really didn't envy the rest of the island that particular experience.

"See?" said Ariel hopefully. "It all evens out?"

//Somewhat, I suppose.//

Jono had managed to amass good karma by murdering an onion. Who knew?

"Just sooooomewhat?" asked Ariel, in a lifting tone that suggested she wasn't going to take somewhat as an answer.

//Yes,// Jono replied, stubborn as always. //A little.//

He wasn't going to win this one, and he knew it. But damn it, he had to at least try.

"A liiiiiittle?"

Hey, Ariel was stubborn in her own way, too, Grumpypants.

//Tiny bit. Not much at all.//

... And now he was having fun with it. Grumpily. So sue him.

"Not even just a little itty bitty tiny bit more than a tiny bit?" asked Ariel, who had to fight through giggles and an urge to roll a bit on the counter to look extra cute and convincing.

She was probably more cute and convincing as a girl, sadly. Jono really didn't see much in boys. Except, of course, for the fact that they were boys.

//... Perhaps just a smidgen more than that.//

Ariel was experiencing a moment where she was actually forgetting she was male at all.

"How about just a mite above a smidgen?"

Jono cocked his head to the side a little, looking up at the ceiling from the corner of his eye as he thought that one over.

//Only a mite? I think I can handle a mite above a smidgen. Possibly even a tad, if it boils down to it.//

"A tad?" asked Ariel, brows lifting, impressed. "Really? Do you think you could even go an iota over, or is that pushing it too far?"

//And iota is definitely pushing it,// Jono agreed. //I won't go a jot above a whit, and that's my final offer.//

Giggling despite herself and making it even work a little bit better now, Ariel lifted a finger. "Sold!" she called. "To the dashing fellow in all the fashionable leather!"

//Yes, but what do I win?//

Besides something that had to do with being a jot under an iota and perhaps a smidgen around a tad. Or... something. He wasn't entirely certain what they were talking about, anymore.

Ariel honestly couldn't remember, either.

"You win..." she said, taking a moment to think about it before throwing out her arms and announcing, "the knowledge of knowing that you won!"

//My,// Jono mused, //how surprisingly fulfilling.//

You could tell that he was feeling fulfilled by the way he was shaking his head and rolling his eyes, and looking generally amused.

Well, it's not like she could offer to take him out to dinner or anything, here.

"I guess I could take you to a movie or something later this week if you really wanted."

An offer for dinner would probably end in more awkwardness, and maybe more foot-eating, true.

//... That isn't supposed to sound as tempting as it does, you know.//

It had been months since he'd gone to let his brain blank out while he stared stupidly at a giant screen. It certainly held its appeal.

"Is that a yes, then?" asked Ariel, trying to avoid figuring out what he meant by that. She would just chalk it up to the whole being a boy thing.
