Library [09/26]

There was music in the library today. It wasn't the same, loud, pervasive music that Jonothon normally opted to, however. Today it was almost like a whisper of music. Like a hundred little voices all joining together in song.

... Or, more accurately, the rustling of the pages of every book on the subject of music in the entire library, all rising up in glorious, but quiet, harmony.

They'd just finished Sound of Silence, and were moving on with Scarborough Fair when Jono came in, levelled that aisle with a look, and then shook his head and set to work shelving things. Occasionally, things that were singing at him.

Ah, Fandom.

[Open! And listening to Simon and Garfunkel.]

//Yer heart's a bit more open now, is it?// Jono thought on that for a bit, trying to pick out the lyrics in his head.

Really, it was a good Raven song, wasn't it?

//If you have any time on Tuesday to stop by Groovy Tunes, I'd be happy to help you iron out whatever troubles you might be worried about, for it,// he offered. //I'll bring my guitar.//

He always brought his guitar. But he'd bring it special for Raven, this time.

"I will have time before I go to work as well," Raven said, pleased for an excuse to visit the store. "I have one class in the morning, and I visit Professor Skywalker before that, but between then and late afternoon I am free."

//Well, if you have time around noon, I ought to be about,// Jono replied. //I knock off a bit of time in myself for class third period, but working around that shouldn't be too difficult, I should think.//

"Very well, noon," Raven said. "I will be there. Oh, and there was something else I wished to ask you." She was very excited about the idea she and Jaime had come up with in class. "Jaime and I have begun to discuss a trip to London. Would you be interested in going as well?"

Oh, Raven. You just went and offered Jono an excuse to go home. In spite of the millions of reasons that he had not to go.

//I would be interested,// he said, after pretending to take a moment to actually consider that. //After all, somebody has to make certain you don't get yerselves lost in th'tube. When were you going?//

"We have not set a date, for we only began to speak of it this week," Raven said, pleased by his interest. She hadn't been sure if he would want to go, though she already had contingency plans prepared for his possible excuses. "Our science class took place on the Tower Bridge this Wednesday, though only in the Danger Shop, of course, and Jaime and I wished to see more of the city. Kennedy knows London, but not as well as you would."

//Well, no. It's... home,// Jonothon agreed, rubbing at the back of his neck. //It's been a while since I've been there, obviously, and it's probably changed a bit since th'mid 90's besides. But I can at least point at things and pretend I know what I'm talking about.//

That was half the battle of playing tour guide, after all.

"I would very much enjoy having you with us, for your company and not just your knowledge of the city," Raven said, doing a little mental dance of yay!. "I must speak with Jaime again and see if we can pick a date, and I will surely let you know. Things may not be the same, but surely the landmarks have not changed."

//Well... Do keep me informed, then,// Jonothon replied with a little nod. //Try not to put it off for too long, hm? Not that there isn't anything to do there in th'wintertime, I suppose... But sightseeing in th'rain isn't much fun, really.//

That, and if it waited for too long, he'd remind himself of the million reasons why he couldn't possibly want to go.

Raven nodded. "Oh yes, I do hope it to be soon," she said. She wasn't about to give Jono a chance to wriggle out of it anyway. He should not underestimate the resolve of an empath on a mission.

"Do you have any guidebooks about London in the library?" she asked. "I would like to familiarize myself with them before we go. Oh, and books on meditation as well. I am going to teach Cloud to meditate, and I said I would look for books he could read as well." See, she did have professional reasons for being there as well, not that she really needed them.

//Meditation and guidebooks, hm? You know, I'm not entirely certain if meditation would be filed under health or new age...//

But now he was curious, too.

//Guidebooks are the easy one.//

"Perhaps both," Raven mused. "I know that many consider meditation 'new age,' but it is very good for the health." Just ask her, she'd be happy to promote it.

//Well, let's take a walk, then, and see where it's been filed,// Jono replied, making his way around the desk to join her. //Could use the excuse to meander about for a bit, anyhow.//

"Certainly," Raven smiled, straightening and smoothing her skirts. "I will follow where you lead."

//Right this way, Sunshine.// Jono waited for a moment, considering the stacks, and then shrugged and starting to make his way into them, not necessarily making his choice simply based on the most direct route, no.

The harmony down this particular aisle was breathtaking.

//We'll try health, first. Seems to make th'most sense, really.//

"The books are in a good mood today," Raven remarked, listening to them as they walked. "So what is your favorite place to visit in London?"

//Th'pubs,// Jono replied, almost immediately. //Th'night life. Dance clubs and seedy bars you can hardly breathe in for smoke. I never did have much of an eye for landmarks. When it's home, it's just... something that happens to be there. Which doesn't mean I can't show you things like Big Ben, and Westminster Abbey, of course. All of those things that people talk about on this side of the ocean without even really caring what they are.//

"I do not know if 'seedy bars' would be the best place for a group of teenagers to go," Raven said, wrinkling her nose at the mention of smoke. She was still stuck in being the responsible one mode and wondering if they really should have a chaperon. "But a dance club might be fun."

Hey, if Raven didn't want to go to the seedy bars, Jono would be more than happy to wander into one on his own. Just for the atmosphere.

... Which he couldn't breathe. So it was even better than the last time he'd been in one, pretty much right off the bat. Only he wouldn't be stepping into it for a gig, either.

//You might enjoy one of those, yes,// Jono replied. //I happen to know of a few, unless time and different realities have taken their toll on th'city at large in that regard.//

Maybe on this Earth, he hadn't accidentally blown up his favourite club...

"I know as little about dancing as I do singing," Raven said. "But the others might enjoy it, and it is fun to watch the people." It was probably a liiiittle bit creepy to eavesdrop on their emotions, but she was just learning from them, really!

Really, eavesdropping on people's emotions probably wasn't much creepier than Jono's own still-developing ability to read minds, coupled with the fact that he still told almost everyone, ever, that he couldn't. Honest.

It probably helped, to some degree, that he couldn't actually eavesdrop unless he was actively trying. And he didn't want to actively try.

//Th'fun thing about clubs like those are, you get people of all types. Even ones who prefer to sit out,// Jono noted. //And it is fun to watch th'people. I know.//

Raven would tooootally trust Jono not to read her mind without permission. But she'd be blushing a lot more most likely.

"Then we shall have to make it a point of visiting one," she said. "Though we will have to see how much time we will actually have. I think we were considering a long weekend."

//Well, we'll have to make it a busy weekend,// Jonothon decided. Which seemed, at least to him, like solution enough to a large number of problems, including but not limited to all of the things that there were to do, and all of the things that he'd need to be distracted from while doing them. //Whenever we do go.//

"I will speak to Jaime this week and decide upon a date," Raven promised. "I hope it will be soon. I am eager to see the city for real. The bridge was very lovely."
