Library [09/26]

There was music in the library today. It wasn't the same, loud, pervasive music that Jonothon normally opted to, however. Today it was almost like a whisper of music. Like a hundred little voices all joining together in song.

... Or, more accurately, the rustling of the pages of every book on the subject of music in the entire library, all rising up in glorious, but quiet, harmony.

They'd just finished Sound of Silence, and were moving on with Scarborough Fair when Jono came in, levelled that aisle with a look, and then shook his head and set to work shelving things. Occasionally, things that were singing at him.

Ah, Fandom.

[Open! And listening to Simon and Garfunkel.]

Generally speaking, William Murdoch managed to observe most of the required social niceties. Except, of course, when distracted by some sort of scientific curiousity, in which case all chances of proper hellos and how-do-you-do's went out the window.

"At least," William said, trying desperately to look for some sort of bright side to Fandom being so weird, "the books aren't spending their time being rude to people."

//Mmm, like yesterday's onions?// Jono shrugged his shoulders a bit. He could dismiss the singing books. //They're harmless, in here. A bit odd from time to time, but a little Scarborough Fair never hurt anybody, did it?//

"Wolves," William said. "And I don't suppose you have some sort of... newspaper archive? And," he sighed, "Werewolves." If he sounded less than pleased about that last item, it was because, well. Werewolves were supposed to be fictional.

And yet! Yet one of Jono's friends here on the island happened to be one! And didn't like the way Jono smelled, but that was neither here nor there.

//Wolves would be that way,// he noted, pointing down the appropriate aisle. //With the other books about animals. Werewolves are a bit more touchy. Were you asking about th'fictional creature, or th'genetic, sometimes magical, sometimes viral phenomenon that isn't quite so fictional?//

Fandom library. You had to have a lot of different sections to accommodate.

"I'm not- quite sure yet," William admitted. "Perhaps I'd best start with the non-fictional, then." If the witness claimed to have seen a werewolf, it would make sense to see if their description matched any actual werewolves.

Look, Jono wasn't stupid, really. He was no great detective, but he did make use of his powers of observation from time to time. When he felt like being nosy.

Never mind that less than a month ago, he had barely known anything of forensics.

... He'd met a few of those since coming to Fandom, too. One of them was Elvis. Just saying.

//We've got a section on th'paranormal, right down that way. You can't miss it. It's th'one with all of the books on werewolves, zombies, poltergeists, and th'like. I don't know how much of it you can take to heart, but I can tell you, each reality that touches this island seems to be a bit different from th'next. Just because it doesn't marry up to what you know doesn't mean it's wrong, either. Keep an open mind about you, and you should do fine.//
