So You Say You Want a Revolution: Week 4, Period 3

Aly had handwavily notified students that today's class was in the Danger Room and to wear clothes that could get dirty. She thought she was being awfully nice with that warning. When the students entered the room, they would see that it was set up with a series of obstacles and a high ropes course. There was a 50 foot high cliff set up with ropes and harnesses at one end of the room and ropes crisscrossed the ceiling, ending in a zip line back to the floor. On the floor there was a mud pit, cable walk, and other moddable obstacles.

Aly stood at the edge of the obstacles and waited for everyone to arrive. "Okay, guys, over the last few weeks, we've talked about how to recruit others to your side. This week, we're going to work with the people we already have - your group of classmates. This course-" she gestured across the room "-is full of obstacles that you'll need to work together to get over." She grinned a little. "Yeah, you're Fandom students so most of you probably can get over every single one on your own using sheer determination if not magic, but that's not the point."

"When you're fighting a revolution, your life is in the hands of the other people in your pack. They screw up? You'll probably end up hurt or imprisoned or dead with them. Today's stakes aren't nearly as high." She grinned. "So have some fun."

It's a 10ft wall with few hand/footholds. Your job is to get you and your team over it.

Proto knew how to handle this one. "Smallest people up first," he called, stopping at the foot of the wall. "A couple of us will give you a boost up."

Rinoa glanced around. "I'm not sure if I'm the smallest," she said, "but I'll go."

It couldn't be harder than scaling that wall to get to Edea's room, right?

"Small enough," Proto laughed. "And I trust you to help pull me up once you're up there."

"Don't underestimate the small ones," she laughed. She quickly unbuttoned her long baby-blue duster and folded it, neatly, on the floor. No use tripping on the thing, or having it get caught on something.

"Okay," she said, approaching the wall and rolling her shoulders a couple of times. "Boost me?"

"I learned better than that a long time ago," Proto grinned, jerking his head in Makita's direction wherever she was.

He cupped his hands together to make a step. "Up you go!"

Kyle jogged over to join them as Proto was being pulled up. "If you fall, you're on your own," Kyle joked.

"Fair's fair," Kyle agreed, squinting up at him. "It's not so big. I think I can make it. Watch your feet!" He called.

Burma Swings

Okay, Rinoa looked a little nervous here. Bad experience nearly falling off a flying school. Could happen to anybody.

So she stepped carefully, but still made it across in decent time.

"Thanks!" Rinoa said, turning to wave at her group member. "Sorry, got the jitters. Almost done!"

Just in case he was worrying about her holding up the line.

"Take your time," Kyle reassured her. "You'll get there." He loved this kind of activity and his enthusiasm was showing.

It probably would have been easier had she gone faster, but nerves weren't letting her. Still, she took a deep breath and made it the last jump across.

"Your turn!" she said, turning to salute Kyle. "Okay, scary or not? That was fun."

Cliff!

When you get there, Aly will give you a quick handwavy lesson on how to belay a climber (http://www.princeton.edu/~oa/climb/belaywal.shtml). One person climbs, one belays then swap. It's a trust thing.

As Proto reached the bottom of the cliff he paused and looked around for someone to partner with.

"Do we need to be similar weight?" Rinoa asked. "I'm probably lighter than you."

She was all of 5'3" and he was not emaciated, so it seemed like a fair guess.

"You are, but no. At least not if you think you can hold my weight." He wasn't exactly big, but he definitely outweighed her.

"Besides, I usually work with someone lighter than me."

"I usually work with someone bigger than me," she laughed. "It works out nicely. I won't let you fall."

She eyed the climb. "Who should go first?" she asked.
