So You Say You Want a Revolution: Week 4, Period 3

Aly had handwavily notified students that today's class was in the Danger Room and to wear clothes that could get dirty. She thought she was being awfully nice with that warning. When the students entered the room, they would see that it was set up with a series of obstacles and a high ropes course. There was a 50 foot high cliff set up with ropes and harnesses at one end of the room and ropes crisscrossed the ceiling, ending in a zip line back to the floor. On the floor there was a mud pit, cable walk, and other moddable obstacles.

Aly stood at the edge of the obstacles and waited for everyone to arrive. "Okay, guys, over the last few weeks, we've talked about how to recruit others to your side. This week, we're going to work with the people we already have - your group of classmates. This course-" she gestured across the room "-is full of obstacles that you'll need to work together to get over." She grinned a little. "Yeah, you're Fandom students so most of you probably can get over every single one on your own using sheer determination if not magic, but that's not the point."

"When you're fighting a revolution, your life is in the hands of the other people in your pack. They screw up? You'll probably end up hurt or imprisoned or dead with them. Today's stakes aren't nearly as high." She grinned. "So have some fun."

"Don't underestimate the small ones," she laughed. She quickly unbuttoned her long baby-blue duster and folded it, neatly, on the floor. No use tripping on the thing, or having it get caught on something.

"Okay," she said, approaching the wall and rolling her shoulders a couple of times. "Boost me?"

"I learned better than that a long time ago," Proto grinned, jerking his head in Makita's direction wherever she was.

He cupped his hands together to make a step. "Up you go!"

Okay! Time to swing herself up and grab a few of those handy footholds. Handholds? Either way, there were random objects jutting out of the wall and she was going to steady herself on some of them and reach up to grab some others, proper terminology be damned.

It wasn't all that high of a wall, but she was taking her time anyway. No point falling off and conking her head. This wasn't a race, was it?

Proto held steady. He was feeling a bit of impatience, since he was used to doing this under combat conditions, but while he didn't know what she was thinking, Rinoa was right. They weren't in a hurry.

Finally, Rinoa got up to the ledge, hoisting herself up and over it as carefully as she could manage. There!

She stood up, brushed her hands off on her shorts, and waved to Proto on the ground.

"What now?" she asked. She couldn't exactly give him a boost up, from up here ...

Proto grinned up at her. "Good job."

"Is there some way for you to get stable footing? Normally you'd lay down and reach down so that I can have something to grab onto."

Rinoa frowned, considered the top of the ledge, and then knelt down against the edge.

"How's this?" she asked, leaning over and offering one of her hands. The other was braced on the wall itself, and one of her feet braced against a handy gap.

"Think you can take me weight and help me get up?" Proto asked, looking up at her.

"We'll find out," Rinoa said excitedly. "Come on, I got this."

"Okay."

Proto backed up a few strides, then sprinted forward, running up the wall a few steps. Just enough to reach up with one hand and catch hold of Rinoa's.

She was glad he'd convinced her to brace herself, because there was a lot of pull involved in holding on to someone who was running up a wall. But she was solidly in place and not falling over the ledge, so that was good. She steadied herself and gripped tightly onto his hand, pulling up as much as she dared. No yanking too fast, or she might drop him.

Proto pulled, hauling himself up just far enough to get his other hand onto the top of the wall. "Good catch," he grunted as he used his grip on her hand and the wall to slowly pull himself the rest of the way up.

"Thanks!" she said, keeping her arm steady until he was safely up. "So that's two of five. Not bad for a start, right?"

"Not bad at all," he agreed. "You sure you haven't done this a lot?"

Re: Teamwork Climb

"Really haven't," she said. "But I hang out with mercenaries, so you learn as you go, right?"

"You must be a pretty quick study, then," Proto decided.

"You kind of have to be," she grinned, "if you're going to hang out with mercenaries in the first place."

"I can tell you do," Proto snickered. "And I'm beginning to suspect that you don't hold them back, either."
