Aly had ~~handwavily~~ notified students that today's class was in the Danger Room and to wear clothes that could get dirty. She thought she was being awfully nice with that warning. When the students entered the room, they would see that it was set up with a series of obstacles and a high ropes course. There was a 50 foot high cliff set up with ropes and harnesses at one end of the room and ropes crisscrossed the ceiling, ending in a zip line back to the floor. On the floor there was a mud pit, cable walk, and other ~~moddable~~ obstacles.

Aly stood at the edge of the obstacles and waited for everyone to arrive. "Okay, guys, over the last few weeks, we've talked about how to recruit others to your side. This week, we're going to work with the people we already have - your group of classmates. This course-" she gestured across the room "-is full of obstacles that you'll need to work together to get over." She grinned a little. "Yeah, you're Fandom students so most of you probably can get over every single one on your own using sheer determination if not magic, but that's not the point."

"When you're fighting a revolution, your life is in the hands of the other people in your pack. They screw up? You'll probably end up hurt or imprisoned or dead with them. Today's stakes aren't nearly as high." She grinned. "So have some fun."

"You are, but no. At least not if you think you can hold my weight." He wasn't exactly big, but he definitely outweighed her.

"Besides, I usually work with someone lighter than me."

"I usually work with someone bigger than me," she laughed. "It works out nicely. I won't let you fall."

She eyed the climb. "Who should go first?" she asked.

"You ever climbed before?" Proto asked.

"Not ... especially?" she said, hoping she didn't sound as incompetent as that sentence made her feel. "Not anything like this. Does that mean you should go first? After you show me how to ... do the belaying thing?"

The teacher had shown them, but having it pointed out again couldn't hurt if she was going to be responsible for someone not falling and breaking their neck and all.

"Yeah. First we'll go over belaying. Then, once we start climbing, just watch where I put my hands and feet. Try to get yours to the same place if you're not sure where to go next."

"Then you'd better not take any steps that are too big," Rinoa joked. "Remember that the girl following you has shorter legs, okay?"

"I'll remember," Proto grinned. He did a quick review of belaying techniques.

"That all make sense?"

"Sounds good," she nodded. "So I -- stand here and hold this and -- you can go slowly, right?"

Or at least leave time after the instructions for her to stare blankly at him and try to piece it together?

"Very slowly," Proto agreed. "It always pays to be careful when you're climbing. Just remember, watch me, and make sure you're standing in a stable location. You don't want it to be a lot of work while you're waiting."

"Except for the belaying stuff," she said, finding a secure looking spot and standing firm. "I mean, I should be paying a little attention to that, right?"

She was teasing, Proto. Honest.

"Um... yeah, except for that," Proto said, turning to look worriedly at her for a second. Then laughing at her expression.

"I'm kidding," she laughed. Unnecessarily, yes, but she had to. "Man, soldier-boys are the most fun to tease."

"You're teasing the guy who's about to climb a cliff with you while tied to a rope that's tied to you." He could tease back!
