So You Say You Want a Revolution: Week 2, Period 3

"You all found your way back," Aly said with a teasing smile as the bell rang for the class to begin. "I'd be impressed, but I've met Fandom students before."

"Before we start, I'd like to introduce my TAs for this term - Ino Yamanaka, Rinoa Heartilly, Percy Jackson, and Nico di Angelo. Four isn't usual, I know, but we're trying something new this time around. I'd like each of the TAs to head up a small group of their classmates. When we work in teams or have small discussions, that's the group you'll be with."

She went to flip over the whiteboard to show the groups she'd set up.

*Percy Jackson
Cally
Faramir
Jason Todd
Makita

*Rinoa Heartilly
Cara
Kyle Reese
Leda
Proto

*Ino Yamanaka
Cloud Strife
Karla
Leia Organa
Shira

*Nico di Angelo
Elphaba Thropp
Katniss Everdeen
Luke Castellan

Aly glanced at the groups then back at the class. "If you hate who you're with, talk to me and - yeah, never mind. If you hate who you're with, deal with it. You don't always get to work with your friends when planning a revolution. Pull your desks together, and spend some time getting to know each other if you don't already.

"Last week we talked about the reasons why you personally would rebel against a government. What I'd like you to do today is to stay in the small groups and talk about why you - as a group - would rebel against something. You can look at it seriously or rebel against mandatory cheerleading uniforms for the whole school, but remember, revolutions aren't put together by one person. It's always a group effort. So today, let's start with that."

Ino glanced around brightly for her group--despite her own personal reservations--and waited.

Well. She'd wait for a bit anyway.

Karla pulled her desk over and gave Ino a smile. "Got all your reasons for rebellion lined up?" she asked.

"Can't I be a rebel without a cause?" she asked, smiling cutely. "I promise to be a very very good rebel."

"I've got one back home if you're interested and I'm sure Leia does, too," Karla said. "We can bid for your rebellion services, if you like."
intraspective: (are you REALLY sure?)

"I'm good at infiltration," she said helpfully. "And sabotage."

And assassination. Which she didn’t say out loud but did write out on a piece of paper clearly, for long enough for Karla to get a look, before Ino crumpled it in her hand. Being in class meant she wasn’t going to say that out loud. Even if Aly probably wouldn't mind.

"My big issue's got some of the same facets of a rebellion? But ain't really one. What're your reasons?"

"I'm very good with poisons," Karla said, her eyes flicking down to the paper and back up to Ino quickly. The expression she wore was much more curious than condemning. "And have some natural poison immunity myself."

Since they were sharing, Karla rested her hand on the desk in front of Ino, palm up, and slid out her snake-tooth from under her ringfinger nail. "Don't touch," she advised, very, very quietly.

She didn't think Ino would, but she needed to say it all the same.

"Those in power back home are hurting and exploiting the people," Karla said, returning her snake-tooth back to it's regular resting place and bringing her hand back to her lap. "Breaking, enslaving, killing for profit. All that. Real pleasant people."

There was no way Ino was going to touch that. Though she did lean over briefly to eyeball it closer. What? It was fascinating.

"Don't got immunities," she admitted, "but I'm pretty good at natural poisons. Chemical based ones I don't have much background in, though I know how to use them." There was a difference, after all, between knowing how to extract and combine a one and pure and straight just using it.

Any idiot could coat a kunai with poison.

She glanced at Karla. "Charming people, surely," she replied, arching an eyebrow. "If I'm needed..." Sure, she'd help. Not for loyalty, but because Ino really and honestly did love her work on several levels and with her current situation back home... well. Options, Reno had said. She just had to look for them.

Even if Karla didn't have anything for her to do--saying it never hurt.

"Is there anything organized against them at the moment?" Staying on topic was, apparently, something she was going to have to work at today.

"Natural poisons for me, too," Karla said with a nod. "Plants mostly, though I'm okay at harvesting venom from poisonous creatures, too."

Mostly spiders because, well, they weren't called Black Widows for nothing.

"And not much is organized," Karla said, making a slight face. "Everyone's kind of hunkered down, trying to survive until I'm old enough to form my own Court. My cousin's there, keeping an eye on things and cultivating resources, but he can't tell me much except when we see each other in person. It's not safe to write about what he's up to."

"Not safe to write things down?" Ino asked, tilting her head. "Or not safe to transport it?"

Slight difference, but potentially one that interested her.

"And that's no good--how long do you got to wait 'till it's formed?"

Re: Discussion Groups [9-8]

[personal profile] glacial_queen 2010-09-08 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"Both, though moreso the transporting, I think," Karla said. "He's being watched and his movements tracked; there's no real question of where his loyalties lie. He knows his mail is being read, too. He can vanish things that he can't afford to leave lying around, but there's a limit to what he can carry. Not to mention, if there was someone shielding their presence from him, he might not notice until it's too late."

Considering Morton wore the Rose, finding someone with a darker Jewel to spy on him wouldn't be that difficult.

"As for me, I can't form my Court until I make my Offering to the Darkness. The earliest that can be done is seventeen, but it's usually better to wait a little longer." Hmm. She probably needed to explain that a little better. "The Offering is where I come into my full, adult strength. Rushing it means I might not reach my full potential."

"I appreciate the elaboration," she said, smiling faintly. It gave her more to work with at the least. "Could he work in code? Something silly--gardening, perhaps? If they don't have time to break the code, someone just reading it over his shoulder wouldn't think much of that, right?"

Re: Discussion Groups [9-8]

[personal profile] glacial_queen 2010-09-08 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's a little of what we do now," Karla said, brushing her hair back out of her face. "He can't openly write to me, because they can't know we're in contact. So he writes letters to his friend Rolf and tells me, in vague terms, what's going on. And then in more detail when he can slip away to the Hall and send me messages then."

But traveling to Dhemlan took hours on the Rose Wind, which meant he couldn't do that often. Nor could he take a Coach on a darker Wind, because that was far too easy to track.

Cloud put his desk along the others of his group, expression neutral. He was at least content with himself about not freaking out for the recurring themes he was talking about, but what else would he expect for a class about rebellions?

He was going to stay silent and attentive for the moment, though.

Poor thing, really, wasn't it that Ino was supposed to get him to talk?

"So," she said playfully, though it didn't touch her eyes. "Your reasons for a rebellion?"

Re: Discussion Groups [9-8]

[identity profile] eyesofahero.livejournal.com 2010-09-08 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Cloud was a poor, poor thing indeed. But hey, get over it or get out right? That, or he really had no idea why he would start a rebellion, other than the same stuff everyone used as excuses.

"To send a message", replied at least, wondering if Ino had actually talked to him without the playful tone ever, besides the infirmary conversation, and even then... "Depending on what are you rebelling against, or who, the message varies, of course." It usually was related to 'stop screwing around with the world' though.

It was unlikely, really, that she had.

"Send a message?" Ino asked, raising an eyebrow. "What sort of message is worth lives?"

Re: Discussion Groups [9-8]

[identity profile] eyesofahero.livejournal.com 2010-09-08 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Probably that would freak Cloud a little, for a while. The serious tone, that is.

Cloud had to raise an eyebrow in response. "Why a rebellion need lives as a requisite? Rebellions come in different kinds." And sizes, but he didn't want to sound like he was selling hamburgers.

"By all means," she replied, and yes that eyebrow of hers could go a little higher. "What sort of non-violent rebellion would you indulge in?"

Re: Discussion Groups [9-8]

[identity profile] eyesofahero.livejournal.com 2010-09-08 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Could wasn't eager to test the boundaries of his own eyebrow, so he would be assuming a neutral expression now. "One that has the same effect than a violent one, without the unecessary death." One could dream, after all.
