Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

It might have been the start of the fall semester, but it was definitely still summer in Fandom. The sun was shining and the temperature was already starting to get high, even as the NPC crew set things up for the day.

Luckily, the school knew how to take care of folks on days like today. Beneath the blue and gold streamers and balloons, tables had been set up with cold drinks and food, and an entire section devoted to offering up different ~~moddable~~ ice cream flavors. As always, there was a stack of nametags set down next two signs: one listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, and one listing rooms and roommates for the new students.

With everything set up and the crew out of the way, it was time for the picnic to begin!

Come and meet your new fake siblings! Let the brain breaking commence!

The list of roommate assignments was located in a prime spot on one of the tables. Current students who had been assigned new rooms and/or roommates had been ~~handwavily~~ informed of the change.

Come and meet your new teaching buddies! Try to pick the biggest troublemakers out of the new kids! Start the drinking early!

William placed his nametag on his suit jacket, and then began looking around for a 'Chuck'.

Last thing Effy was expecting at this point was new roommate assignment. It'd been a while, and she figured they'd forgotten she had a room to herself.

Apparently not.

There was no way she was using a nametag, but she was keeping an eye out for this Peter guy from a spot leaning idly against one of those picnic tables. People watching with a purpose.

Helpfully, a Chuck was busy looking for him, peering at nametags. He was looking for a guy, he assumed from the William, so skipped the awkwardness of accidentally staring at any girl's chests before he found the one he was trying to find.

"Oh, hey just the guy I was looking for! ... I think. I'm Chuck. William Murdoch?" He had just babbled at the right William, right? Hopefully.

A good scotch would have helped Kerrigan, back in the day. Now, she had liquid curiosity to go on, tilting her head up and keeping an eye on the students as they passed her by.

She looked remarkably at ease.

"That's me," he acknowledged, tipping his hat in greeting. "How do you do?"

Of all the things in the world Dolf could have expected when he wandered down the causeway... a picnic wasn't one of them.

He looked a little shellshocked as he walked onto the grass, even more so when he found a little tag with his name on it lying somewhere in a stack. This wasn't the thirteenth century, that much he could tell: but it looked nothing like Dr. Simiak's lab, either.

Had something gone wrong?

"I... do good." It had been a while since Chuck had been greeted like that, and without a hat, he couldn't really return the gesture, so he pretended, and grinned at William.

"So welcome to Fandom! I'm like, your guide to all things here." Place like this, you kind of needed that. "How are you finding things so far?" Best to assess just how much crazy he'd already seen.

Kon, of course, made a beeline for the ice cream, grabbing the nametag only as an afterthought.

He looked to see who his Big Sibling was and grinned as he saw a name he recognized. Raven, huh? This was gonna be cool.

Kate was there early, with her little welcome basket in hand, smiling a little at all the new faces while keeping an eye out for anyone whose nametag said Robert.

She already had one Robert as a roommate. Maybe this would go well.

Except maybe if the guy happened to be way from the past and was going to be scandalized by her tank top and short skirt. But he'd just have to deal with those.

Forgive Percy if he was a little wary about this arrangement. The last time he'd been to something similar to this picnic, he'd ended up with two cheerleaders trying to kill him and blew up a band room.

He stuck a nametag to his shirt and looked around for someone named Kitty while trying not to think about how similar that sounded to Kelli.

The roommate assignment didn't look too bad. Percy was used to living alone or living with his mother and, from the looks of this place, it didn't look like he'd get his own cabin.

Percy tucked his hands into his pockets, eyes scanning the crowd while he tried to find Kon again. At least he knew what Kon looked like.

Fraser had lost count of how many of these he'd attended but that wasn't ever going to stop him from coming. He was out there now, in full uniform, looking refreshed from his trip and pleased with the new arrivals.

The stables had been rather strange, but Baru had seemed content and Faramir made a promise to check on him later before he left. It wasn't difficult to know where he needed to go, there was plenty of noise and people gathered.

For a moment, Faramir observed the others and then followed suit. He stared down at the little thin parchments that lay spread out on the table. It had to be some kind of script, but it looked so alien to him.

"What's your name?" A woman asked across the table with a sigh, as if she'd been doing this too many times.

"Faramir," he said slowly. She picked up one of the white parchments, then split it in two. Before Faramir could protest, she slapped him on his chest.

"There you go. Your big sib is Maladicta," she said.

"Big sib?" Faramir frowned down at the thing that was now attached to his leather jerkin. It covered up one of the seven stars and a part of the crown.

"Your big sister. She'll show you the ropes," the woman said, exasperated.

"I do not have a sister. Only a brother. His name is Boromir," Faramir objected. He had the feeling the woman wasn't listening to him anymore.

He carefully removed the thing from his jerkin and it stuck to his fingers, but it was the script that was puzzling him the most.

Hey, Reno loved these welcome picnic things! It was like his first opportunity of the semester to scope out the fresh meat! Or something like that. Daaaamn, look at all the bewildered little rookies running around, and they had no idea what they were in for.

Which would be why he was smirking as he casually tossed an apple back and forth from one hand to the other.

Faramir had attached the nametag once more, now that he knew what it was. He moved it higher on his chest, making certain it wouldn't cover the crest of Gondor.

He studied the paper for a moment, recognising the signs that supposedly make up his name. Now if he only knew what this was about.

Sibling! New sibling! Man, Zack loved these things. He was already concocting plans to take his new sibling out for ice cream, and to take them out to the rocky bits to get a pet rock, and all sorts of big brotherly things!

He slapped a nametag on and kept an eye out for his newest little sib, looking, for all the world, like he'd just won the lottery or something.

Bond leant against a handy tree, quite content to simply watch the flow of new students.

When Jason had gotten notice that his new sibling's name was Dolf, he expected some hulking blonde guy with a funny accent. When he spotted the guy who took the nametag...well, he'd gotten the blonde part right, at least?

"Hi," he said, approaching the guy with a slight smile when he saw how he looked. "Are you okay?"

Dolf tore his eyes away from the scenery when he realised someone was speaking at him - which was about thirty seconds or so after Jason actually did. He'd been distracted.

And-- uh. What had he said?

He squinted at Jason, and held up his hand, slowly, in a gesture of greeting. "...Hoi?" Hopefully, he hadn't missed anything important like 'get off of my lands'.

Bruce had requested a new roommate, so he was prepared for this. As much as he appreciated his alone-time and living on his own, he knew that it would be better for him in the long run if he had the opportunity to deal with people in his personal bubble. Therefore, roommate.

"Faramir?" Bruce said when he spotted the nametag. "Bruce Wayne. I'm your new roommate."

Zoe was feeling a little somber today now that both Dean and Sam were off the island. But, she was trying not to show it, and keep herself in a celebratory mood. Keeping an eye on Grace, who she was letting walk around unattached as a test to see how she'd do, was helping with that a lot.

Oh, this was going to be interesting, for sure. "Hi," he said again, holding his hand up as well. Hopefully, that was a general greeting wherever this guy had come from. "I'm Jason. You're Dolf?" he asked, trying the name out as best he could.
