It might have been the start of the fall semester, but it was definitely still summer in Fandom. The sun was shining and the temperature was already starting to get high, even as the NPC crew set things up for the day.

Luckily, the school knew how to take care of folks on days like today. Beneath the blue and gold streamers and balloons, tables had been set up with cold drinks and food, and an entire section devoted to offering up different ~~moddable~~ ice cream flavors. As always, there was a stack of nametags set down next two signs: one listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, and one listing rooms and roommates for the new students.

With everything set up and the crew out of the way, it was time for the picnic to begin!

Last thing Effy was expecting at this point was new roommate assignment. It'd been a while, and she figured they'd forgotten she had a room to herself.

Apparently not.

There was no way she was using a nametag, but she was keeping an eye out for this Peter guy from a spot leaning idly against one of those picnic tables. People watching with a purpose.

"I have no idea why the school insists on me rooming with a girl," Peter said. He at least knew of Effy enough to recognize her. And at least this time, it wasn't a girl that seemed to know twenty different ways to kill him if he stepped out of line. "Hi."

"Must think you need practice." Ignore the way they'd roomed Effy with a boy twice now, too. One rule for her, one for everyone else.

"Do you?"

"Practice in dealing with women?" Peter said. "I don't think so. I've got fairly enough practice with that. Though I suppose I've never asked the girls if everything was up to code."

So it could be that. She'd amuse herself with the idea, anyway. Effy's roommate experience so far had been with Edward, and he hadn't exactly been your regular everyday teenage boy.

"Don't have a sword, do you?"

... It was a legitimate question if you were following her particular train of thought. She just didn't seem to feel any need to share where it came from.

"No swords," Peter said. "I'll be coming with a couple pens, though, and I've heard they might be mightier. I'm neither magical, superpowered, or some super-trained fighter. Just your normal, every-day teenager."

With a genius IQ.

"Congratulations." That made him sound truly fascinating. Really. "Anything I should know before letting you move in?"

"I don't snore, I keep myself clean, and I'll only peek if you do," Peter said.

"How'd your last roommate take that rule?" she wondered, smirking a little.

"The last rule?" Peter said. "New invention. I'm always out to broaden my horizons, try something new and exciting."

"Prepared to be a part-time perv. How refreshing." Clearly Effy didn't give a shit. If she looked, it was with that knowledge. Mostly, she looked amused.

"I'll try to keep my eyes to myself." To an extent.

"And I will do the same," Peter said. "Besides, I think Karev would kick my ass otherwise."

"Hasn't beat the shit out of anyone for looking at me before," she commented. Punched someone for lying about kissing her? Yes. Completely different.

"I'll keep that in mind," Peter said. "And if you guys ever need the room, I can make myself scarce. Seems only fair."

"Same goes for you." Look at her, being all nice. Lucky for Peter, Alex had just lost a roommate. Chances were, he'd get his space. "Only fair." So far, he hadn't tried to use the word 'boyfriend' or 'dating', and that picked him up some points in his favour.

"Can make a detour when I see a sock on the door," she joked dryly.

"The universal signal," Peter said. "Anything I should know before moving in?"

Effy shrugged casually. There were probably many things he should know. But was she about to share? No.

"Nothing to worry about. Unless you've got a major beef with smoking." In which case, she'd have to cut back a little. Or spend more time on the roof. Really, her nicotine habit should be the least of anyone's worries.

"I'll deal," Peter said with a shrug. "Well, looks like we covered all the important bases."

Effy bobbed her head briefly in a nod. "You'll do," she decided, a slight smile tugging at her lips.

"Guess I'll see you later." Still going to take some getting used to.
