Janet unlocked the library, slammed her bookbag on the floor behind the desk, and started making a list of overdue books.

"Ethics class? How is it unethical? What happened?"

Sam recognized the look on Janet's face and dug around in her messenger bag for a minute. "Ah hah. Candy-covered chocolate espresso bean," she offered.

"Sam, I'm in love," said Janet, taking the espresso bean gratefully. "Professor Maclay decided everybody needed to play a sixteen hour game of master and slave as their first class assignment." Janet frowned as she crunched down on the candy shell.

Sam's mouth fell open in surprise. This wasn't what she'd been expecting to hear. "I'm...I'm sorry? She what? For what purpose?"

"I'm not really sure," said Janet tightly. "Supposedly so that we can learn about slavery. Liz and I got paired up with each other, refused to do the assignment, and now she wants us to do a paper about, among other things, why we won't do it." Janet rolled her eyes. "Not sure what I'm going to say. Or even if I'm keeping the course. Could you imagine the look on Teal'c's face?"

"Oh, yeah, because that tracks," Sam sneered. "You have to write a paper explaining why you won't do the assignment? That doesn't sound so bad...and you're working with Liz, so that's good...I'm not going to think about that. The look on yours is bad enough."

"It's a little more involved than that," said Janet. "A lot more involved. She wants a complete recounting of our personal and psychological issues with the assignment. So she never 'asks too much of us' again." She crossed her arms and glared at a bookcase across the room. "Plus she wants us to observe the other people doing the exercise and write about their 'learning' experiences. I don't think I could look him in the face if I'd agreed to do the damned thing."

As Janet explained, Sam suddenly felt the need to go take a long hot shower and scrub herself with lye soap.

"That's completely invasive! Why can't she just trust that if she 'asks too much of you' (and please, could she have picked more manipulative phrasing!), that you'll tell her, just like you did this time?"

Her voice rose indignantly. "And she wants you to observe other people's humiliation and then report on it? How is that showing respect?"

Janet noticed Angelus walk in and motioned to Sam to keep quiet until he left.

Fuming, Sam noticed Janet's hand motion. She offered another espresso bean and took one for herself, crunching angrily.

"It's not right, Janet."

Janet took the espresso bean gladly and started chewing on it.

"Not in the least."

She gave the most neutral look possible right now toward the professor and Angelus. When he was gone, she'd answer Sam.

"To see how long it takes me to kill Echolls?" Parker said, having caught up with them by now. "You have no *idea* what he wants me to do this week. We're gonna flunk. That's all there is to it. Crap."

"I'm afraid to ask..." Sam said, also shooting a look at Angelus and hoping that Parker caught it. "The possibilities for someone who wants to humiliate you..."

Sam winced. Parker had a lot of enemies. "What are you going to do?"

"Make the biggest goddamn kamikaze explosion possible, and take all bystanders with me." Parker shoots Angelus a deadly look, then bends over the books. "Someone thought they'd get an advantage out of this, and they're wrong. I can drop the course or take an 'F' if I have to."

Sam nods, expecting something like this, especially from Parker. "I have to know...what does he want you to do?"

If Angelus wasn't there and able to hear everything, she'd probably be well on the way to getting herself banned from the library by now. "I just...can't believe it. The Professor looks so nice and normal."

"Support vampires," Parker mutters as low as possible. Maybe Angelus can hear her, maybe he can't because he's talking to Dr. Pierson; either way, she's not getting into this with him yet. This is between her and Echolls for now. "With pictures and testimonials. He's nuts if he thinks one school assignment can get me to do that."

Sam can't help it. She starts laughing, even though it really isn't funny. "I'm sorry...did you say..." She laughs some more, then lowers her voice. "It's a class assignment, not a lobotomy."

"Precisely. And I don't trust that little sneak. I *might* give a testimonal about vampires in other dimensions-- there are three others where they seem to be more ambiguous than they are in Angelus's home dimension-- but do you really think he wouldn't edit the hell out of it, to support his good pal?" Parker snorts. "We're gonna flunk. Flunk. Flunk."

"Well, if you're gonna flunk, Parker," Sam says, offering her an espresso bean, "Do it with style and flair. Give him a quote he can't possibly edit, and in front of witnesses."

Parker grins, caught by that image. "Hmm. Hmmm. Heheheheh. Maybe I will, at that." Her eyes narrow. "Now, what could not be even *slightly* misinterpreted...."

Sam frowns as she begins to think about the problem. "He's worse than a PR secretary when it comes to twisting things. Do you have any tangible evidence you could hold up next to you during the picture?"

Parker writes down her answer:

Then she erases the words and scribbles over them.

Sam nods, turns her back to Angelus, and mouths, "You might want to burn that. Or is that being too paranoid?"

She grabs the pencil from the table and writes down, What about having the interview outside, when A can't be there?"

Parker twitched. Then added:

Echolls wanted pictures *with* him. He can photoshop me and my Dolce & Gabbana next to Angelus, the real thing ain't gonna happen. For the sake of their lives and my existence outside a Woman's Penitentiary.

No, I can see that. Although I hear the women's penitentiary doesn't have vampires or zombies...
