DADA For Muggles [Wednesday, February 17]

"Next week is your break," Sirius said with a slightly evil smile. "Which is lucky, as this week we have an interactive midterm for you to work on while you're supposed to be relaxing."

"Today we're assigning your pairs -- and one group of three. Over the course of the week, you will be playing Spy versus Spy! attempting to disarm one another. I cannot stress this enough, though -- any injuries will result in no credit and an immediate detention, and that's the very least of your concerns at that point. Your opponent will need to declare a surrender to denote a victory. You may agree upon the terms during this class, but anyone using their powers to hurt another student will, again, be severely punished."

Sirius held up really ugly belts with red flags attached to them. Someone had been raiding the gym supply closet....

"So you'll be wearing these. The first of the pair to steal the other person's flag wins. Listen carefully for your names. " He waved his wand and a piece of parchment appeared:

Kennedy v Tony Foster
Jack Priest v Mirax Terrik
Dru Anderson v Lois Lane
Helen Haras-Uquara v Makita
Chuck Bartowski v Proto
Jonas v Warren Worthington III
Charles Gunn v Leda
Jon O'Neill v Hinata Hyuuga v Liz Sherman (v Jon O'Neill)

Jonas wasn't so much going to interrogate anyone (mostly because no one would be intimidated by that) but he did vow to attempt to ask questions and learn something about his so called target.

Warren had gone out on a limb today and had left the coat behind. Maybe he'd even make a habit of it. After all, it wasn't as though the wings were much of a secret, anymore.

"Hey," he said, trying not to cringe as he gave Jonas a bit of a nod. "It looks as though we have an interesting week ahead of us."

"Apparently," he said and laughed. "I've never disarmed anyone before in my life so I expect frequent mishaps."

"Well, that would make two of us," Warren replied, cracking a little grin at the other boy's laughter. "Are you going to be going on that school trip? If we're going to be stalking one another while wearing hideous belts, I suppose there are worse places to do it, at least."

"Yes!" Jonas said, barely containing his excitement at getting to out of the country. "It'll be the farthest I've ever traveled and I think I could even adapt to the belt there. Especially if it's warm. I'm a little tired of the snow."

"I fully confess, I'm going on this trip completely for the warm weather," Warren admitted, laughing lightly, now. "I'll be the weird kid with the long coat while everyone else is running around topless in shorts, if you're worried you'll have any trouble finding me."

He was going to sweat half to death. And to get away from the snow, it would be totally worth it.

"Does that mean you're not going to go swimming?" Jonas asked before he thought about it. "The belts in the water would look foolish, wouldn't they?"
wwiii: (Mmmhmm :))

... Warren officially liked this kid.

"I guess they would," he agreed, grinning in spite of himself. "You know, I vote we call a temporary truce for swimming purposes."

Not that he'd be getting into the water, himself, but it seemed like the nice thing to do.

"I can agree to that," Jonas said, nodding. "I wouldn't want anyone to ask why there were flags attached to our swimsuits. And I'm sure there are curious enough people who would try and tug on them without knowing why."

"And that would be a shame, wouldn't it? Both of us losing to someone who isn't even in the class?"

Actually, if that happened, Warren would probably laugh until it hurt. And then maybe laugh some more.

"I wonder how the teachers would grade that," Jonas said thoughtfully, "since we'd lose to someone not enrolled here. Would it be a disqualification? Or would we both lose?"
wwiii: (Mmmhmm :))

"I don't know if I can afford to fail a midterm just because somebody got curious," Warren noted. "So it's probably better to be safe than sorry, and just forget about the tacky belts while we're doing things where they'd be too noticeable."

Well, that, and it spared Warren from getting gym class gunk on his Gucci.

"Agreed," Jonas said easily. "And you don't have to worry about any aggression from either. I'd rather ask you to give me a flag than to tackle you."

"And I'm more likely to just fly away than let you tackle me, anyhow." That worked out nicely, didn't it? "Even if I'll probably end up crashing into a wall or something dumb like that. But hey, that means that you could just pick it up while I'm splayed out on the ground trying to remember which direction 'up' is."

[identity profile] see-beyond.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"While I hope you don't crash into a wall, I'd probably take advantage of that situation after checking to see if you were all right," Jonas admitted. "Of course, as soon as I tried to leave with the flag, I'd get so lost, that it would give you recovery time and an opportunity to repay the favor."
wwiii: (Mmmhmm :))

"Prone to wandering lost pretty often?" Well, there was something that Warren could use in his favor, at least. Maybe. "There'll probably be maps or something where we're going, I'm sure."

"I get confused easily," he clarified. "New surroundings are even more likely to confuse me. So, it's an advantage you should use if it comes to that."

Jack waited for Mirax (or for anyone else who took it into their head to talk to him). He didn't think he'd find interrogation work too difficult.

Proto was pretty sure he knew who this 'Chuck Bartowski' kid was, but that wasn't much of a starting place.

Kennedy's interrogative technique was... special. So it was probably a good thing that she was sitting and playing with the flag belt, looking at it somewhat distastefully, rather than actively going after people to interrogate, wasn't it?

Makita looked around for this 'Helen' girl, eager to get started.

Helen nodded at the other girl. This was not the sort of task she enjoyed.

Lois did not like the idea of wearing that ugly flag all week. Definitely didn't go with any of her bikinis.

Leda looked around for Gunn. She was already pondering strategies.
