DADA For Muggles [Wednesday, February 17]

"Next week is your break," Sirius said with a slightly evil smile. "Which is lucky, as this week we have an interactive midterm for you to work on while you're supposed to be relaxing."

"Today we're assigning your pairs -- and one group of three. Over the course of the week, you will be playing Spy versus Spy! attempting to disarm one another. I cannot stress this enough, though -- any injuries will result in no credit and an immediate detention, and that's the very least of your concerns at that point. Your opponent will need to declare a surrender to denote a victory. You may agree upon the terms during this class, but anyone using their powers to hurt another student will, again, be severely punished."

Sirius held up really ugly belts with red flags attached to them. Someone had been raiding the gym supply closet....

"So you'll be wearing these. The first of the pair to steal the other person's flag wins. Listen carefully for your names. " He waved his wand and a piece of parchment appeared:

Kennedy v Tony Foster
Jack Priest v Mirax Terrik
Dru Anderson v Lois Lane
Helen Haras-Uquara v Makita
Chuck Bartowski v Proto
Jonas v Warren Worthington III
Charles Gunn v Leda
Jon O'Neill v Hinata Hyuuga v Liz Sherman (v Jon O'Neill)

"Prone to wandering lost pretty often?" Well, there was something that Warren could use in his favor, at least. Maybe. "There'll probably be maps or something where we're going, I'm sure."

"I get confused easily," he clarified. "New surroundings are even more likely to confuse me. So, it's an advantage you should use if it comes to that."

"I'll keep that in mind. You won't get too far once I'm back on my feet again after any unfortunate run-ins with walls."

Warren had the sneaking suspicion that most people usually weren't this straightforward about things like this. But then, Jonas seemed like a nice enough guy, and it wasn't as though his wings really afforded him with much of an advantage. Only speed and a bird's-eye-view, and only when he was in a place that would allow him to make use of either.

"We should almost just spare ourselves the trouble and play a game of checkers for the flags, or something."

"Winner takes the flags, takes the game?" Jonas said, nodding thoughtfully. "It might be easier. And save us the trouble of worrying about the flags while we're on vacation."

"Just as much strategy involved, not nearly as much of a headdache," Warren agreed. "The last thing I want is to misplace school property somewhere in the Bahamas, you know?"

"I'd be agreeable to a checkers game if you would be," Jonas replied. "It would seem to solve a lot of issues we've been talking about."

"Excellent," Warren laughed, shaking his head a little. "Just name a time and place, and I'll be there with a checkerboard."

"Did we want to do it before or after the break?" Jonas wondered. "We have a few days either way and I don't have any solid plans either way."

"Neither do I," Warren mused. "We might as well just leave the belts in our respective rooms, and spend the break enjoying the sunshine and the surf. We can play Instant Death Checkers or whatever it is once we're back, unless you were in some huge rush to get it over with."

Red versus black, battle royale. Fear.

"I think I can contain any checkers related excitement till we're back," Jonas said. "It'll give us something to anticipate."
