Library [02/10]

Sam was more than a little energetic in the library today, and he hadn't even had any coffee this morning. With no further news on Peter, he was starting to worry that Isabel had been tricked in her dreamwalking, that Peter really wasn't alive out there somewhere, and in order to keep his mind off of that train of thought, he threw himself into work. He cleaned the main desk, put returned books back in their proper places, rearranged a set of shelves, cleaned the main desk again, and worked on memorizing his lines from the play. It wasn't enough to stay constantly distracted, but Sam was getting as close as he could.

Claire showed up with extra large cups of coffee for him and hot chocolate for herself after her class today and hoped nothing would happen that would make her spill this week.

When she spotted Sam behind the desk, she started to whine. "Saaaaaaam. Make it stop snowing."

"I hate this cold weather," she complained, setting his coffee on the counter. "It's just not natural."

Yes, Claire, it is. Just not where you're from.

"Nah, that's the kind of weather I love," Claire said. "You seem to be doing much better than you were last week when I saw you."

"Looking forward to the dance this weekend," she said with a sheepish smile. "Are you going to go?"

Chuck came in around his usual time with lunch in hand. He didn't much care about shaking the snow out of his hair onto the floor because, well, he just never cared about that sort of thing.

At least he was helping Sam with that whole distraction thing by making more work for him?

"Oh you're welcome," Chuck said. "I'm seriously considering going to an island this weekend."

"I might. Australia is nice this time of year," he said. "You're welcome to come with. You could catch a kangaroo or something."

"We're still making fun of you, Sam. We're just too cold to say it to your face."

Henry sat in his office, watching the snow hit his window and missing Alba fiercely. She was walking just well enough to help with a snowman.

Eventually, he left his office and his melancholy and went to reshelve books.

"It goes like it goes," Henry smiled from above the cart of new fiction. "I was going to put these on the shelves. How's it going with you?"

"If you aren't in the middle of anything, sure," Henry said, in a mild way.

He grabbed an armful and added, "What was wrong last week?"

"It seems to like to do that," Henry observed. "I got lucky. Didn't get sick at all."

He started slotting books back onto the shelves. "I'm glad you're feeling better."
