Library [02/10]

Sam was more than a little energetic in the library today, and he hadn't even had any coffee this morning. With no further news on Peter, he was starting to worry that Isabel had been tricked in her dreamwalking, that Peter really wasn't alive out there somewhere, and in order to keep his mind off of that train of thought, he threw himself into work. He cleaned the main desk, put returned books back in their proper places, rearranged a set of shelves, cleaned the main desk again, and worked on memorizing his lines from the play. It wasn't enough to stay constantly distracted, but Sam was getting as close as he could.

"I might. Australia is nice this time of year," he said. "You're welcome to come with. You could catch a kangaroo or something."

"I don't know, I don't mind the snow so much," Sam said. "I get made fun of less for wearing long-sleeved shirts when it's cold."

"We're still making fun of you, Sam. We're just too cold to say it to your face."

"You know, you're the only one who ever makes fun of how I dress. Everyone else is perfectly fine with it." Somewhere, Emma might disagree with that statement, but she didn't say things to Sam's face.

"That's because everyone else doesn't have taste," Chuck said. He paused. "Actually that's a lie. Castiel actually knows how to dress when I push him into it."

"Are you the reason he was sporting that nice suit?" Sam asked.

"Sort of, yeah," he said proudly. "He looked pretty hot, didn't he?"

"Well, I don't really...I mean, he's Castiel, I don't look at him like that," Sam said. "He looked very well dressed though."

"You don't look at him like that," Chuck repeated, rolling his eyes. "Even he admits he's attractive. Or, well, that Jimmy's attractive."

"He's. An. Angel," Sam said. "Why is it so hard for you and Dean to get that Castiel and sex are a combination that makes my head hurt?"

"I don't see why it makes your head hurt," he said. "Everybody has the right to get laid. Even angels."

"Angels are holy and connected to God, and that means no sex. You don't see priests having sex, do you?" Sam said, pausing for a moment. "Okay, bad example. But he's not human. He doesn't need to have sex."

"Nobody needs to have sex. It's a hobby for the most of us," Chuck told him. "And I don't see what being connected to God has to do with anything. You know He's the one who invented the whole sex thing, right?"

"Not to be a hobby," Sam replied. "It's just not right. He's supposed to be totally pure." Now he was just going on wishful thinking.

"It's a bit late for that, Sam," he said. Chuck gestured to himself. "I mean, come on, look who he hangs out with."

"Okay, point," Sam said. "But he's still pretty pure, aside from the kissing, right?"

"Sexually, yes. The hooker we set him up with didn't get far," Chuck said, smiling a little at the memory. "Probably for the best because he is an awful kisser. He's much better at the drinking and drugs thing."

"I forgot about him getting high," Sam admitted, sighing. "He's not very good at being an angel."

"Oh stop acting like you even know what an angel's supposed to be like," Chuck said. "From what I understand they're not exactly the nicest company."

"I thought I knew what angels were supposed to be like," Sam said, and maybe that was part of the problem. "I'm kind of...okay, disappointed is a strong word, because I like Castiel, I really do. It's just hard to get past."

"What did you expect them to be like?" Chuck asked.

"Well for starters, I expected them to be friendly," Sam said. "I thought angels were supposed to be nice and look out for people. That's why you pray to them."

"I always thought you prayed to God, not angels," he said. Not that God was exactly looking out for people these days either, if what Castiel said was right. "You're right though. Angels should care about us. Castiel's brothers are major assholes. They've done all sorts of stuff to him because of the way he acts around humans. And now he's cut off from Heaven and it's screwing with his powers."

That kind of made Chuck feel bad. He supposed he should be encouraging him to be more angelic but, damn, it was hard when all you heard was about the dick things they did.

Sam tilted his head a little as he watched Chuck. "You know, if I didn't know any better, I'd say you're worried about Castiel," he said. "Or, at least concerned about how he's doing now."

"I'd be a pretty crappy friend if I wasn't at least a little bit concerned about him, wouldn't I?" Chuck said.
