Thanksgiving Meal, Cafeteria, Thursday

The cafeteria's dining room looked much less institutional today than one might expect. White linens had been draped on the tables, and flowers and autumn leaves were arranged in centerpieces on the tables. It was probably best not to ask where they'd found enough silver and china -- yet, somehow, there it was.

The scene in the kitchen it was another story, and the controlled chaos there was -- while mostly manageable -- definitely loud, hot, and confusing.

In other words, it was a proper Thanksgiving.

Priestly was there, keeping an eye on the desserts and ready to sous-chef away.

Possibly as soon as he figured out just how to do that.

Emma had...knives. And vegetables, a large soda (highly caffeinated), and a robot-baby-Marcus that was probably being bounced between fake-parents depending on who had their hands least-full at the moment.

Clearly, it was a miracle nothing was on fire yet.

Yeah, if Emma didn't think Alex would actually use his skills to sneak into the kitchen and get a picture of her all domestic, she didn't know him very well.

And hey, with all the people around, it wasn't that hard to blend in, take out his phone and snap a picture. If he got caught, oh well, but he'd gotten what he came for so now was the time to grin triumphantly and head back towards the dining room.

She'd even pinned her hair up and had an apron on like a good little cook; but that was a familiar touch of mental smug, and Emma knew the source.

<<I ought to put something in your green beans!>> she fumed. <<You're incorrigible, Karev.>>

Re: The Kitchen...

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2009-11-27 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
Well, Alex had to stop at that, leaning against a wall out of her view so he could answer that.

<<You knew I was going to try,>> Alex said, making no apologies. <<That was a good picture there. You look all focused and domestic. Very attractive.>>

Shocking, really, how a little bit of flattery was all it took to turn her mood. Emma was just going to take a moment to preen slightly, thanks.

<<If you find focused women attractive, you should see me with the business section of the Times,>> she teased, going back to her work. <<Good luck getting my attention when I have the markets index page.>>

<<For some reason, I don't think that'll be as good as this,>> he thought, bringing up the picture on his cell phone and grinning smugly. <<And don't poison the food, Emma. You promised me a treat, didn't you?>>
icecoldfrost: (Emma has odd ideas of affection)

Re: The Kitchen...

[personal profile] icecoldfrost 2009-11-27 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
<<I promised a treat if you were a good boy and didn't take any pictures,>> she reminded him cheerfully. <<You didn't hold up your end of that requirement, so no treats for you.>>

Re: The Kitchen...

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2009-11-27 01:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Really, Alex thought the picture was worth that. An opportunity like that wouldn't come along very often.

<<So that means no treat for you either, right?>> Alex grinned slyly, hoping she remembered that part of their conversation. <<Too bad for you. Would've been fun.>>
icecoldfrost: (you can leave your hat on)

Re: The Kitchen...

[personal profile] icecoldfrost 2009-11-27 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, she'd only technically promised him a cookie, not nookie. The abandoned pantry idea had only been implied!

<<I can find my own treats,>> Emma pointed out. <<I'm the one in the kitchen, surrounded by baked goods. But you haven't given me a reason to give you anything.>>

<<Inspire me, and I'll consider it.>>

Re: The Kitchen...

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2009-11-27 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Alex let his head thump back against the wall and laughed. He was not typically someone that could inspire ants let alone strong willed women.

<<Pretty sure that if you come find me, I could help you relax,>> he remarked, grinning. <<Doesn't have to be anything that dirty. You take a break and I'll give you...>>

And now he just needed something good and something he was good at. <<...a massage.>>

<<Deal.>> Like Emma was going to pass up the chance to be petted and spoiled. <<Although you still owe me the ice cream sometime next week that you promised in class, too. I need all the relaxation I can get.>>

Re: The Kitchen...

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2009-11-27 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
<<And I don't go back on my word,> he promised, popping out from where he'd been taking refuge and gesturing her toward him. <<Take a break and c'mere. I promise I won't keep you that long.>>

Emma set down her knife and quickly washed her hands before handing Marcus off handwavily to someone else with a murmured "be right back."

"Hello, darling," she said aloud, reaching for his beckoning hand as she came closer. "Fancy seeing you here."

"I know, it's such a surprise," he said, taking her hand in his and tugging her away from the noisy area of the kitchen. "Even someone like me can't resist free food and pretty girls that cook."

Layla was there putting the finishing touches to the green bean casserole.

She stuck to the recipe on the back of the can so everyone should be safe to eat it.

Sam was ready to cook, amazingly enough, and was keeping an eye out for any stray Student Council or cheerleading folks who might need something from him.

Joan was kind of glad that her group had a simple job today. It meant they got to avoid most of the chaos.

She hoped.

Chuck wasn't planning to stay for the dinner at all but he was in the kitchen early to do his assignment. As quickly as possible. So he could go drink somewhere.

Pfft you people and your family dinners. Weirdos.

Of course Jean was there to help cook. Because what kind of mom person would she be if she didn't help with something organized by the Stu Co?
