Tyler was late this morning, and looked a little scruffy.

... someone might have been a little hungover from some birthday drinking.

The fantastic role model tossed directions and boxes of popsicle sticks down on the lab tables.

"We're building catapults," he announced, and gave the world's shortest and sketchiest lecture on what a catapult was. "It's teaching .. engineering. And physics."

"Work together," he added, then looked at the student he had reason to assume was the despoiler of poor Smoochy "Miss Yamanaka, I'd like a second of your time after class."

Dinah was having a good day so far. Any week that started with zooming around a tropical paradise would carry over a bit.

Yay catapults!

Priestly leaned over, ostensibly to borrow some popsicle sticks.

"Talk," he whispered. "Details, woman!"

Dinah chortled, and put her catapult in place to flip upward with the tap of one finger. Annnnny second-- "I had the best time. He has a flying motorcycle. And Sandover is gorgeous, and we flew over half of it, and it was just... awesome." Dinah hugged herself, looking gleeful and pink.

Priestly blinked at her. "I'm sorry, did you just say flying motorcycle?"

"A zoomer!" Dinah was waving her arms around, totally buzzed even after half a day home. "It flies at least sixty feet over the ground and goes I don't know how many miles per hour and I went through a racetrack course and it was awesome!" She paused for breath and added, "Okay, Jak was on it in case I messed up, but still!"

Priestly stared a bit more.

"Jak let you drive it?"

Dinah beamed and nodded like a bobble-doll. "Not by myself. But yes!" She grinned. "We had such an awesome time. Even with having to punch giant crabs... actually, that part was fun too."

"You were attacked by giant crabs?"

Surely Alfred never had to deal with this sort of thing.

No, but giant rats, maybe?

"They're on the beach, they're about this high," Dinah said, measuring it out at about her chest, "And they have these pinchers. One good punch lays them out though, and oh! In Sandover? Jak has superpowers!"

Of course he did. Who didn't? Except, you know, Priestly.

"Which he uses to . . . punch random giant crabs?"

"Well, yeah. Oh, and jumping! BASE jumping, off platforms and over chasms and stuff!" Dinah sighed. "I think that's part of why he misses Sandover, totally aside from it being really gorgeous and cozy... he gets to do things there that he can't, here. There's this energy stuff, eco, that he can use to do that. Nothing like it in Fandom."

Well. Except Beaver Buzz. But that stuff was only a sad shadow.

". . . So he gets his super powers from . . . getting stoned. So he can punch crabs. And fall from great heights."

"More like getting buzzed?" Dinah paused. "Or fueled? Or... Um. Okay, you should ask him about that, I'm not explaining it right." It wasn't drugs! Nooo!

Yeeeeah, 'cause 'buzzed' sounded so much better. "Okay, just to make sure I'm clear on this. Why were you punching crabs?"

"Oh, because they were attacking us. And Jak needed a minute before we could jump away out of reach," Dinah explained. "Not because we were looking dinner for the night."

"Did they have a good reason to attack you?"

Like, say, Jak punching one in the face?

"Mmmm, I think we looked like food?" At least, that was what Dinah had assumed. "Or they were crabs?" She paused, blinking. "I don't know, we were climbing down to the beach and then Jak was like 'behind you!' and it was all punchy times."

"Oh, you so didn't just assume that just 'cause they're crabs, they're mean."

"They were coming at us," Dinah protested. "Pinchers! Giant pinchers!" She did the same with her hands and two popsicle sticks, aiming at his arm.

"And did you ask them if you could hang out on their beach?"

Dinah waved a popsicle stick at him. "No, but we didn't attack them first! And they could've run away!"

"They were there first. Maybe they had babies hiding around."

Dinah frowned, then looked mournful. "Nooo! I'm sure -- Jak would've said, he would," she insisted. She was positive. Mostly sure. Pretty sure.

Positive!

"If he'd ever bothered to ask."

"Hey! You don't know! Maybe he did," Dinah said, starting to get cranky. "And just because I didn't ask, well-- okay, I should've asked, but it happened really fast and then we were gone! Three crabs, Priestly. Three! Not a lot. Just three really big crabs that came at us first!"

Darnit. She was so going to ask stuff like this, next time.
