DADA for Muggles [5th period]

Today, the class was set up as a perfectly normal classroom, with one exception: there was a television at the front, and Remus, for one, was sporting a part of mildly-singed eyebrows due to his prior struggle with it.

"Good afternoon," he said evenly. "Today we'll be having a rather light day, I'm afraid. I'm certain you're all terribly upset about that. We'd like you to tell us about your attempts to disarm one another. What worked? What didn't? How were your experiences with the assignment?"

"And after that," Sirius said happily, "we'll watch a movie!" On the third DVD player of the day. Shh. They didn't think to ask the TAs for help. "It's completely inaccurate when it comes to witchcraft, of course, but the women are very attractive."

Which was much appreciated, as it meant Francine lifted her head and gave Dinah a weak smile instead of shooting out of her chair like someone stuck a pin in her. "Hey."

"Hey," Dinah said back, feeling totally inadequate, then settled her hand on Francine's back to rub her shoulder gently. "Sleepy, hunh?" Excuses, we can haz 'em!

"A little." Ahahaha. "And the movie's kind of..." She flipped a hand lightly at the screen. "A little much, today."

"Yeeeah." Dinah made a face at the screen, where the ghost of the bad guy was trying to possess his ex. "The timing this place has is just awesome, isn't it?" She really wasn't feeling like watching this particular movie either.

"It's kid of magical, yeah." In the sarcastic way. "I usually like this movie, even."

"The part with the tequila is funny. 'Til they start being mean to each other." Dinah paused. "Might, maybe, go on a trip soon. Somewhere that's not here. Maybe you could go on one too?" Sometimes Fandom just got to be too much.

"Mmmn." Francine's recent experience with trips away from Fandom had been... mixed, to say the least. "Where are yougoing?"

"Um. Sandover. Maybe." Dinah cleared her throat. "If, you know, Jak's teacher says it's cool for me to visit, and who knows if that'll happen." Maybe it was just going to stay a nice fantasy that helped her mood this week.

It had to be done, so someone could enjoy the benefit of being teased about boy stuff. "Aww, he wants to take you home to meet his mom?"

"Francine!" Dinah kept her squeak down to a whisper, then shook her head, swallowing the urge to giggle. "No! Just, see his home in person." She tilted her head, and added, "He doesn't have parents, anyway. Never has. His whole village kind of raised him."

"Oh." Francine was about to say that sucks but considering what some people's parents were like... "I guess that would be like having a really huge family."

"A huge, kinda eccentric family, living on a tropical island paradise, with vents of magic power." Dinah grinned. "And yeah. I just hope his best friend Daxter isn't there *every* second I'm visiting."

"He lacks the gene for picking up on 'Boy Girl Alone Time Is Now?' Francine guessed with stupendous hypocrisy when it came to cluelessness in general.

"Oh no. He gets that just fine." Dinah snorted and rolled her eyes. "But no girrrrrl should be getting smoochie-time with his BFF, if his reaction during Parents Weekend is anything to go by. He actually stuck his face in between us when I tried to give Jak a kiss good-bye!"
