George had pulled out a big book full of hockey statistics and pictures.

He was looking way more at the pictures, yeah, but he had managed to discover that the lines on the ice weren't just to coordinate with the uniforms.  He'd have to tell Sookie.

"Watchin' out fer th' City," he corrected.

"With the Lord Provost and the Rogue," she chuckled. "I do take it seriously."

George stared. And then cracked up.

"Yer friends wit' th' Rogue?"

"Aye," she agreed, mimicking him. "I'm friend wit' th' Rogue. That's so surprising?" Well, she did know it was.

He was still laughing. "An' d'you lecture him too?"

"When he deserves it," she replied. She did, just not a whole lot. She knew he'd not listen to her and she'd not want to hear what he'd to say.

"I'd've thought y'd be tryin' t'hobble him every chance ye got," George said.

Though from what he'd seen and - oh. That was who her visitor was. He would've guessed earlier, and he bet his mother had.

"And you think it'd be smart for a Dog to try to hobble the Rogue?" she shook her head. "The Lower City needs a good Rogue and he'll do better than Kayfer's done in ages."

"Dunno if yer a smart Dog, Beka," he teased.

She rolled her eyes at him. "Smart enough not to be dead yet," she said.

George dismissed that, more interesting things to tease about so close at hand.

"So what's th'Rogue's intentions t'ye?" he asked.

"None," she said firmly, fixing him with a Look.

She'd met his mother, right? He was used to those looks.

"But he came all this way t'visit you," he pointed out. "An' him th'Rogue."

His mother didn't have ghost eyes.

"He's the Rogue," she agreed. "Which is why there'll be no intentions."

"So you jus' wan' t'canoodle an' move on?" he asked, still smirking but ready to move fast if necessary.

"I do not want to do aught!" she protest and he'd best move fast as she was going to try to slap him with the book.

He got his hand up fast enough for the book to smack against it.

"Course ye don't," George smirked.

"How 'bout you keep your nose out of what doesn't concern you?" she suggested, trying to smack the back of his head with her hand now.

"How 'bout ye don't get so fired up if yer so indifferent?" he snapped, wincing at the blow.

"I'm not," she dropped the book, satisfied with getting a hit in now. "So do they have maps here?"

"So what are ye?" he asked, sliding the books out of the way quickly. "An' aye, of course."

"Making sure you keep your nose clean," she said stubbornly. "I'd like to see ones of this world and where we're going tomorrow. Are you going?"

"Already got a mam," George scowled. "An' ye already got a little brother so don' be treatin' me like one."

Okay, he kinda liked it, but shh.

"I've got two," she corrected, sommat seemed off about the statement. "They're much better behaved than you are, so you've no need to worry that I'm getting confused."

And then the thing that was strange struck her. "I never told you I've got brothers."

"That makes 'em sound borin'," George teased. He shrugged. "Yer Beka Cooper."
