Library - Saturday [9/26]

George wasn't near an expert on libraries, but over the last few weeks, he'd learned a few things about them. One was that books went on shelves.

Which was the reason he was completely puzzled that when he started to put books away and do the other library aide tasks, he was finding fruit on the shelves. Books too, yes, but all around the books - laid on top, set on the ends of the row, even in a few awfully messy but quickly cleaned up cases, under the books - there was a veritable fruit salad.

He filled the cart with fruit and took it back to dump on the front desk - the cherries were set to the side because they were George's absolute favourite - then went back for more.

Anyone coming into the library would probably find themselves the winner of a giant fruit basket.

Apples and plums and peaches and bananas.

Lunch.

Mmmm, fruit.

The supply of fruit seemed to have dried up a little, and George was at the desk now, playing dice games for cherries.

I don't know. I do know I'm craving fruit.

Yakko burst into the library, music trailing behind him as he began to sing.

"The library can be a gateway
Into many different realms
It's a literary freightway
That never overwhelms

There are books of fiction
Essays, maps, and poetry
Books to improve your diction
Books on the nineteenth century

Magazines on on the rack
Old papers on microfiche
And librarians to help you
When something's out of reach

Books about burials mounds
Some that define 'dromedary'
On the shelf, all these can be found
At your local library!"

The music died down and Yakko stood in front of the desk with a smile on his face.

Angela didn't have specific plans for her day, but she did have specific plans for tomorrow, which meant that today she had to prepare. Oh, looks like she had plans for today after all!

"Hi, I need to find the cats section," she said. And if there wasn't a section just for cats, there should be.

"We don't have cats here," George said, unable not to ~~be a dork~~ tease. "Just books. An' fruit. Would ye like an apple, lass?"

"That's funny," she said seriously. "No, I need to find the section with books about cats."

And after an entrance like that, George stared for a long second.

"...apricot?"

Angela stared. Just stared.

Then said, "Shhhh! This is a library!"

"What type of cats?" he asked, gesturing her to follow him towards the right section. "Th' big type or th' ones that catch mice?"

"Are you offering me one or directing me to books about them?" Yakko asked.

"I know that. That's why I sang a song about libraries instead of one about the gym," Yakko said in his normal voice.

"My cats don't catch mice. They have better things to do." Oh, Angela. "But housecats. That's what I'm looking for."

"Offering ye one, I think," George said, tossing one towards him. "D'ye always sing songs when ye enter th' room?"

"...catching rats then?" he asked.

"Not always," Yakko said, catching the apricot. "It depends on whether or not I have a song to sing about the room."

"We're supposed to be quiet in libraries, or did you not learn that raised... wherever you were." She had no idea what he was supposed to be, but wasn't going to seem that rude. Except for implying that he was raised somewhere subpar. Details.

"I don't know about that. Being quiet wasn't part of the song," Yakko mused.

"Maybe it should be in your next song so you'll know then."

She sighed. "They have cues to learn. We're putting on a play."

"I didn' know cats were actors," George said curiously. "Are yours special cats?"

He turned down a row and gestured to the line of books on cats. "Here y'go."

"Why would I have two songs about the library? The one song's just going to be played all the time in syndication anyway," Yakko said.

"So not like th'head or somethin'," he theorised.

"No, I leave the potty jokes and songs to my brother," Yakko said, shaking his head.
