Swordplay - 3rd Period - 9/17

A big fan of the handwaving, despite not being a Jedi, Deadpool was in ye olde Danger Shop with more than just a few neato wooden sticks that you get at anime conventions. Though he didn't get his there.

...okay, only two of them. But it was a good deal, okay?

"Okay, so today we're talking about where you kooky kids are at on the skill level so you don't end up like a wee baby kitten up against a rabid Doberman. Not pretty. Believe you me."

Let's just say that was a very bad trip to Guatemala.

"So you get to smack around these hand-dandy dummies who are not at all dressed up like anyone in particular!" Who wouldn't believe a face like that? C'mon now! "So, get crackin' on this so we can start pairing you folks up next week for my own personal Thunderdome."

A beat.

"I'll need a Tina, of course."

Deadpool, stop eying Zack.

"Zack, Arthur. This Saturday in the non-fancy gym in town because someone isn't allowed on campus because it's creepy or something. Anyone who wants to watch fun fighty times is welcome to come along and bring popcorn."

Illyria was not 'smizing' at the stick. She was giving it a look that was clearly readable as either 'A stick?' or 'any of Illyria's five million other unreadable looks.' Whatever, there were things to hit with it.

...The stick was probably not supposed to break. She'd have to be more careful with the next one.

...The dummy dressed in plaid was probably supposed to retain its head.

"Looks like you need a new stick," Triela offered conversationally from where she was using carefully controlled strikes so as not to break her own.

"Indeed," Illyria muttered, stalking over to grab one, then returning to glare at the dummy. "Must even the fake humans be this fragile?"

Turtle had a stick sword thing and she was going to use it. In fact, in contrast to the lecture and the fact that this was Mr. Deadpool's class, Turtle was going about striking one of her dummies with such attention and precision to getting it right that she barely even realized how silly they were.

Mat had been trained in the quarterstaff by his father, who regularly beat everyone else in Emond's Field during festivals when they held contests in such matters.

So while he might not be breaking the stick or taking off the heads of the dummies, he had a flair for hitting the dummies in painful locations: stomach, knees, throat.

"Hey. Not so bad at that," Turtle observed, giving Mat a nod. Sure, Zack had offered to teach her a little more if she felt she needed it, but she didn't think it would hurt to keep track of other people who might know what they were doing.

The fact that Mat was also cute was purely coincidental. Really.

Seregil was familiar with wooden practice swords, less so with whoever the practice dummies were supposed to be, and he wondered if that meant he was missing something important.

Still, it was a fairly basic assignment and he went through the various practice routines he'd learned as a child and still used to keep sharp when he didn't have someone to spar with today.

Hitting things was good, yes. Claire wondered who Deadpool hated though.

It took a lot of restraint on Clark's part not to destroy the dummies when he hit them, but it was a good skill to practice if he was going to go up against real people he didn't want to kill at any point.

Zayne picked the dummy with the visor and started strikng it. As per usual when it came to him handling a sword, he seemed to have a grasp on what he was doing even if he looked a little awkward doing it.

Yuffie was ecstatic about hitting things. Especially the Cyclops dummy. "I never thought spandex could be used as a weapon."

She didn't know who the person in the flannel was, but hitting things seemed like a good idea. Someone's sword lessons were showing.

Zack was there, too! And... He totally didn't know what a smize was.

Which was fine! Because he figured he probably did a lot of that anyhow.

... Right?

Can we put Liefeld's head back on and kill him again? Illyria asked from the wrong account.

You can kill him as much as you want. In fact, I insist.
