Swordplay - 3rd Period - 9/17

A big fan of the handwaving, despite not being a Jedi, Deadpool was in ye olde Danger Shop with more than just a few neato wooden sticks that you get at anime conventions. Though he didn't get his there.

...okay, only two of them. But it was a good deal, okay?

"Okay, so today we're talking about where you kooky kids are at on the skill level so you don't end up like a wee baby kitten up against a rabid Doberman. Not pretty. Believe you me."

Let's just say that was a very bad trip to Guatemala.

"So you get to smack around these hand-dandy dummies who are not at all dressed up like anyone in particular!" Who wouldn't believe a face like that? C'mon now! "So, get crackin' on this so we can start pairing you folks up next week for my own personal Thunderdome."

A beat.

"I'll need a Tina, of course."

Deadpool, stop eying Zack.

"Zack, Arthur. This Saturday in the non-fancy gym in town because someone isn't allowed on campus because it's creepy or something. Anyone who wants to watch fun fighty times is welcome to come along and bring popcorn."

"My da taught me," Mat said with a little laugh. "And thank you."

"Since you were little?" Turtle asked, figuring she couldn't begrudge Mat too much over the fact that his dad taught him something cool like hitting things. After all, her dad taught her bookkeeping.

Though not exactly intentionally.

Mat nodded. "Along with shooting with a bow and arrow, and a slingshot. The staff was mostly for festival contests in the village. It's been years since anyone got violent at home."

Well, not counting the Trolloc attack. Which Mat was not bringing up in conversation ever.

"See," Turtle said, "the most violent I had to deal with was when I needed to kick someone in the shin."

Well, and the bombs, but she was not bring that up in conversation right now.

"Of course, since I've come here, I've started picking up more weapons. I'm pretty good with a gun now and, well, next?" She held up her wooden stick. "Sword stuff."

"I got to shoot a gun in class!" Mat said excitedly. "I'm still not sure about swords. At home, they're generally used by idiot nobles to skewer other idiot nobles."

Turtle smirked a little at that, not at all thinking of Arthur or Leto. Really.

"I can see that," she said. "How'd you like a gun? I've been working with one for only a few years, but it's an excellent defense tool."

"It's bloody better than a crossbow," Mat said, eyes alight. "I just don't know how they'd be manufactured back home. We still think thumping people with a stick is a flaming good strategy."

Turtle laughed a little. "Well, you're talking to someone whose favorite method is just kicking them in the shins, so..."
