BWI Portalocity Terminal [Saturday Morning]

Rather than fly from Philadelphia to Baltimore, Eric's parents had given him a lift. They had offered to drive him directly to the school, but he told them he would rather meet the group at the airport and take the shuttle. That way he'd get an early glimpse at all the hot girls he was sure would be going to his new school.

So now he was relaxing in the lounge, drinking a soda and waiting. It wasn't going to college, but it would do.

He probably really, really shouldn't, but something about this guy just made Cal want to sidle on over and poke at him a little by saying, "The pamphlets are a lie, you know."
furnaceface: (Wtf?)

Okay, this time, Jono was going to manage to get through this without speaking, just wait and see.

He raised an eyebrow questioningly, looking between the long-haired boy and the pamphlet in his hand. And then he tilted his head.

See? Perfectly expressive.

... If you were a cat or something, perhaps.

Really, Cal was not surprise. You really didn't expect guys like this to talk straight off the bat. Ironically, he was a lot like that when he was a girl.

"The school," he elaborated, nodding toward the pamphlet. "If that's one of the brochures for it and it's saying the place is normal, it's a lie. They've got all kinds like that; they don't mention anything about how weird this place is."
furnaceface: (Just Bloody Peachy)

Oh, Jonothon figured he could tell this boy a thing or two about weird schools... If he felt at all comfortable with just out and speaking at all. Which he didn't. So he wouldn't. See Jonothon Starsmore exercising willpower.

Yeah, right.

He furrowed his eyebrows a little, glancing at the pamphlet once again. And then he shrugged and pocketed it. Well, fine, he wouldn't be needing that if it was a terrible lie, would he?

He hesitated for a moment, and then, tentatively, he spoke. One quick telepathic syllable. An //Oh?// that he figured he could pass off as the wind if need be.

And it may as well have been the wind for how little Cal noticed it. He grinned, faintly, the other boy's quietness continuing to remind him of when he would have barely uttered so much as a word himself.

"I'm Cal," he offered, with an extended hand, "by the way."
furnaceface: (Serious)

And that was that, then. This boy didn't shrink away, didn't think the word in his head was strange. Jono would have smiled if he could. Instead, he settled for taking Cal's hand and shaking it.

//Jonothon. It's a pleasure.//

Actually, it was simply that Cal hadn't noticed it; but now that more than a simple syllable was being said, he did, and it cause him a moment of pause as he shook Jonothon's hand. His attention shifted a little, head tilting. He didn't have any hearing problems, but it was still pretty unusual to be hearing something to well it was like being spoken to right in your head. His eyebrows lifted.

Interesting. But it was Fandom, right? There were weirder things. Cal should know...

"So, uh, where are you from, Jonothon?"
furnaceface: (Cold Shoulder)

Re: Wait for the Shuttle!

[personal profile] furnaceface 2009-08-29 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, the eyebrow raise. Next time, Jono would make his 'Oh' more obvious and then go from there, perhaps. But Cal wasn't throwing anti-mutant slurs at him, so this conversation wasn't a lost cause yet.

Thank goodness.

//England, originally. Massachusetts more recently. Although I think I just flew in from Ireland. It's gettin' bloody difficult to keep track.// To say the least. //Yerself?//

Re: Wait for the Shuttle!

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2009-08-29 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, the head speech was weird, but doable. Weirder things, Cal. And you know it. He grinned, trying to take the edge off of getting used to it, and hoped people passing by were able to figure out that he was talking to Jonothan, and not just blabbering to a guy who was ignoring him or something.

"Detroit," he said, confident that if Jonothan knew England, Massachusetts, and Ireland, he'd know Detroit, too. "Although I just spend a good chunk of the summer in Turkey."
furnaceface: (Casual conversation)

//Decent football team,// Jono noted. Because that was just the sort of thing he had to note.

Decent team. Bloody amazing team. Whichever.

//Yer travel a fair bit, then?//

Re: Wait for the Shuttle!

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2009-08-29 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
"Decent?" Cal couldn't help at little laugh at that one. "What, are you from a dimension where every day is opposite day?"

Don't get him wrong; he loved the Lions. Every Michigander did. But what they loved most about the Lions was that they sucked.
furnaceface: (Not Convinced)

//No, mate. I'm from London.//

Which meant that by law, he was required to be as cynical as humanly possible. It was true.

"Well, you guys do drive on the opposite side of the road," Cal offered, clinging to at least some bit of his opposite theory.
furnaceface: (Looking away)

Re: Wait for the Shuttle!

[personal profile] furnaceface 2009-08-29 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
//The proper side of the road,// Jono corrected. Because clearly 'opposite' suggested 'wrong.' Somehow. It made sense to him, at least. In a twisted sort of way.

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2009-08-29 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't know," Cal said, sounding skeptical, but with a faint grin. "They drive on the right side of the road in Turkey, too..."
furnaceface: (Casual conversation)

//Clearly that's because they're not British, mate.// There was a shadow of a friendly note lurking in his voice. He was actually enjoying the banter.

That certainly did bode well for his future at this school, didn't it?

Re: Wait for the Shuttle!

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2009-08-29 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
"Still." Cal shrugged, to show how he just couldn't help these basic facts. "Right side, it's right there."
furnaceface: (Told you so)

Re: Wait for the Shuttle!

[personal profile] furnaceface 2009-08-29 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
//I don't know how yer all don't go plowin' yerselves off the road every time yer get behind the wheel,// Jono decided. Diplomatically. //Just one of a multitude of things I don't think I'll ever understand about this country. Yer figure right is right, but a car's no good unless it's left someplace, now is it?//

Re: Wait for the Shuttle!

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2009-08-29 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
And, really, Cal didn't have much to say to that one, considering his father did die driving off a bridge, more or less.

"Touche," Cal allowed, narrowing his eyes at Jonothan as if sizing him up. "Plus you've got your own time for tea. You really can't beat that."
furnaceface: (Kinda down)

Re: Wait for the Shuttle!

[personal profile] furnaceface 2009-08-29 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
Jonothon considered that for a moment, silently soaking in the victory while his mun flailed for accidentally poking at issues omg sorry before nodding, satisfied.

//I'm not really much for tea myself anymore, but I can't deny the beauty in settin' aside a time for a meal between meals.//

Re: Wait for the Shuttle!

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2009-08-29 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
Cal 's mun would like to point out that you can't take two steps without stepping in Stephanides Issue Droppings, so it is so, so, so, so incredibly not a problem nodded. "I could never get into tea much, either," he admitted. "And even coffee needs to have more sugar in it to kill a diabetic."
furnaceface: (Dinnertime kinda)

Re: Wait for the Shuttle!

[personal profile] furnaceface 2009-08-29 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
//Nothin' like a cup of coffee you have to chew,// Jono mused.

He missed chewing. The jury was out on missing having to chew coffee, however.

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2009-08-29 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
"Better than one you can remove caulk with, though," Cal offered in return.
furnaceface: (Sideways look)

Re: Wait for the Shuttle!

[personal profile] furnaceface 2009-08-29 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
//If it's that bad,// Jono pointed out, //I have to wonder if yer talkin' about coffee anymore, or if it's mutated to reach some higher level of bein' that we mortals can't possibly hope to grasp.//

Re: Wait for the Shuttle!

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2009-08-29 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Cal grinned. "Maybe a little of both?" he offered.
