BWI Portalocity Terminal [Saturday Morning]

Rather than fly from Philadelphia to Baltimore, Eric's parents had given him a lift. They had offered to drive him directly to the school, but he told them he would rather meet the group at the airport and take the shuttle. That way he'd get an early glimpse at all the hot girls he was sure would be going to his new school.

So now he was relaxing in the lounge, drinking a soda and waiting. It wasn't going to college, but it would do.

Actually, it was simply that Cal hadn't noticed it; but now that more than a simple syllable was being said, he did, and it cause him a moment of pause as he shook Jonothon's hand. His attention shifted a little, head tilting. He didn't have any hearing problems, but it was still pretty unusual to be hearing something to well it was like being spoken to right in your head. His eyebrows lifted.

Interesting. But it was Fandom, right? There were weirder things. Cal should know...

"So, uh, where are you from, Jonothon?"

Ah, the eyebrow raise. Next time, Jono would make his 'Oh' more obvious and then go from there, perhaps. But Cal wasn't throwing anti-mutant slurs at him, so this conversation wasn't a lost cause yet.

Thank goodness.

//England, originally. Massachusetts more recently. Although I think I just flew in from Ireland. It's gettin' bloody difficult to keep track.// To say the least. //Yerself?//

Okay, the head speech was weird, but doable. Weirder things, Cal. And you know it. He grinned, trying to take the edge off of getting used to it, and hoped people passing by were able to figure out that he was talking to Jonothan, and not just blabbering to a guy who was ignoring him or something.

"Detroit," he said, confident that if Jonothan knew England, Massachusetts, and Ireland, he'd know Detroit, too. "Although I just spend a good chunk of the summer in Turkey."

//Decent football team,// Jono noted. Because that was just the sort of thing he had to note.

Decent team. Bloody amazing team. Whichever.

//Yer travel a fair bit, then?//

"Decent?" Cal couldn't help at little laugh at that one. "What, are you from a dimension where every day is opposite day?"

Don't get him wrong; he loved the Lions. Every Michigander did. But what they loved most about the Lions was that they sucked.

//No, mate. I'm from London.//

Which meant that by law, he was required to be as cynical as humanly possible. It was true.

"Well, you guys do drive on the opposite side of the road," Cal offered, clinging to at least some bit of his opposite theory.

//The proper side of the road,// Jono corrected. Because clearly 'opposite' suggested 'wrong.' Somehow. It made sense to him, at least. In a twisted sort of way.

"I don't know," Cal said, sounding skeptical, but with a faint grin. "They drive on the right side of the road in Turkey, too..."

//Clearly that's because they're not British, mate.// There was a shadow of a friendly note lurking in his voice. He was actually enjoying the banter.

That certainly did bode well for his future at this school, didn't it?

"Still." Cal shrugged, to show how he just couldn't help these basic facts. "Right side, it's right there."

//I don't know how yer all don't go plowin' yerselves off the road every time yer get behind the wheel,// Jono decided. Diplomatically. //Just one of a multitude of things I don't think I'll ever understand about this country. Yer figure right is right, but a car's no good unless it's left someplace, now is it?//

And, really, Cal didn't have much to say to that one, considering his father did die driving off a bridge, more or less.

"Touche," Cal allowed, narrowing his eyes at Jonothan as if sizing him up. "Plus you've got your own time for tea. You really can't beat that."

Jonothon considered that for a moment, silently soaking in the victory ~~while his mun flailed for accidentally poking at issues omg sorry~~ before nodding, satisfied.

//I'm not really much for tea myself anymore, but I can't deny the beauty in settin' aside a time for a meal between meals.//

Cal ~~'s mun would like to point out that you can't take two steps without stepping in Stephanides Issue Droppings, so it is so, so, so, so incredibly not a problem~~ nodded. "I could never get into tea much, either," he admitted. "And even coffee needs to have more sugar in it to kill a diabetic."

//Nothin' like a cup of coffee you have to chew,// Jono mused.

He missed chewing. The jury was out on missing having to chew coffee, however.

"Better than one you can remove caulk with, though," Cal offered in return.

//If it's that bad,// Jono pointed out, //I have to wonder if yer talkin' about coffee anymore, or if it's mutated to reach some higher level of bein' that we mortals can't possibly hope to grasp.//

Cal grinned. "Maybe a little of both?" he offered.

//Sentient death coffee,// Jono mused. //It's pretty sad that I can already tell yer I've seen weirder.//

"Well, good," Cal snorted a little. "Because you'll keep seeing weirder around this place, most likely."

//I might have to take yer word on that.// Jono crossed his arms over his chest, looking, for as much as anyone whose face was half covered could look, like he was very amused, indeed. //I already get the feeling that I wouldn't believe yer if yer started feedin' me examples anyhow.//

"Nope!" Cal agreed. "Probably not. They're probably just best experienced as they come along, anyway."

//Someday,// Jono mused with a note that indicated only mild exasperation, //someday I'll go to a school that doesn't function by that logic.//

No, he wouldn't.
