How to be Awesome | Week 6 | Period 6 | Mon. 8/10

Back in the computer lab, How to Be Awesome students would find their witty and well-groomed professor waiting in an armchair at the front of the room with a glass of scotch and a cigar. Don't ask how he managed it, just be impressed with his abilities. There was also a screen hanging behind him and plenty of computer stations facing him for all to use.

A minute or two before the appropriate time, Barney started in on his 'lecture.'

"Alright students and potential street cleaners, this week you're going to prepare to show the world how awesome you are. Someday, some of you will need to apply for a job. But come on, who can really show off what they're able to do on paper? No one Awesome. Who cares what school you went to or if you were in the Honor Society? Not anyone important. Which is why you need a video résumé. That's right. People are nothing if not visual and this," he pointed at the screen, "is the best way to introduce Barney Stinson to the world. In fact, I sent a copy of my résumé along with an introductory letter to the school board just the other day to ensure they were using me to the very best of my abilities." Oh yes, Barney had ideas.

"Now, you're going to take a gander at mine and then today I'm giving you cameras and access to film editing software right in this very computer lab to crank out an Awesome résumé highlighting the best parts of you that show why anyone should ever hire your Awesome self. Your projects are due next Monday and are your pass to participating in the final." He clicked a button on the remote and the lights dimmed for the show.

Chuck was just gonna sit right here and pretend to work while nursing his hangover.

"All right, what did you do and why are people going to be mad at you?" Sam asked, sitting down next to Chuck. "Also, I do not love you, and you don't get to call me Sammy."

"Don't get snippy with me over stuff that was said when I was drunk. That never counts," Chuck said, wincing slightly at the added noise. "Except the stuff about people being mad at me. That was true. I fucked up."

He sat up in his chair a bit. "Wait, no. I didn't fuck up. I did what I always do, only now I feel bad about doing it. Which is complete bullshit and I have decided to partially blame you for my conscience suddenly making an appearance after seventeen years."

"I don't mind being blamed for you having a conscience at all," Sam insisted, although he lowered his voice to keep from killing Chuck's head too much. "What did you do?"

Chuck groaned. "I got Rachel Roth into bed Saturday night, kicked her out of bed the next day and now she thinks she's in love with me."

After this was said, he looked over at Sam, trying to look as cute and apologetic as possible with a "please don't yell at me in public" look on his face.
likethegun: (i'm confused and wtf?)

Luckily for Chuck, Sam was too busy processing all the different parts of that statement to yell. "You...seriously?" he asked. "All the girls here for you to screw around with, and you pick Rachel?"

"Look, we were on the roof and she was feeling bad about the whole AU place and I just wanted to make her feel better at first. But she kept saying no and why she couldn't," he said. "Then my competitive streak kicked in and I did everything I could to get her to say yes. Without saying anything misleading about dating or love or anything like that."

Please. As if he needed to stoop that low to get laid.

"Her saying no at the start wasn't enough to clue you in that she might not be the best person to sleep with?" Sam asked. "And if you didn't say anything misleading, why does she think she's in love with you?"

"I swear, I just offered sex," Chuck told him. "And, okay, I went into it knowing virgins are a little clingy by nature but I didn't cuddle and I kicked her out of bed later. I don't know why she thinks she's in love with me."

Yakko had some ideas for his resume. Oh, yes, he had some ideas.

Those ideas were mostly that it would have to wait until he was done spinning around in his chair.

If only he could do it...

Alex didn't have many ideas for what to put on his résumé but he was messing around with the camera and computer editing equipment while he jotted down a few lazy notes.

Classes like this weren't really built for those without opposable thumbs, which was unfortunate, but left Effy weaving along the desks, stalking things. Pencils, computer mice... his hand was moving, it was fair game.

Look, she slept though the lecture, and now everyone was doing their own thing and it was fucking boring. At least she had her claws tucked away.

... and if or when he figured things out, could give him some great material to make up for not!her and the whole knee-meets-groin incident, not that she knew about any of that.

Re: Work on Your Résumé [Awesome W6]

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2009-08-10 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, but she would know as soon as he figured things out and she was herself again. There would be glaring. And maybe checking to make sure she didn't actually own baseball bats.

For now, his only reaction to the cat stalking his hand (with or without claws) was mild surprise and amusement.

"Where'd you come from?" he asked, tugging his hand away and wriggling his fingers in front of her face. "Back alley somewhere?"

Alley cat! That was not an insult.

Effy cocked her head a moment, she was far too cute and well looked after for an alley cat, thanks, and eyed him for a long moment.

In some ways, feline instinct took over a little at times like that. Giving her a moving target right there was just too much to resist batting at. Couldn't help herself.

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2009-08-10 05:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"Don't glare at me, kitty. Alley was a perfectly fine assumption," he chided, ignoring the fact that he was talking to a cat. He let her bat at his fingers some (since it didn't really hurt without claws) before sneaking a finger in and flicking her nose.

Alex should never own any pets.

Re: Work on Your Résumé [Awesome W6]

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2009-08-10 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Apparently not. It was a really good job Effy had a nice roommate and hadn't had to go in search of... a friend to look after her, because, Alex was probably the closest to that she had.

She backed off a little looking a bit affronted. So far she'd done most of the pawing at people, and they'd just awww-ed at her. Nose flicking was different, and she was caught off guard enough not to try and bite him.

Lucky Alex!

Re: Work on Your Résumé [Awesome W6]

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2009-08-10 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Lucky Alex, indeed. Cat teeth fucking hurt. Still, the affronted look could even get to a guy like him and he reached closer to scratch under her chin in apology.

"You started it," he said because he couldn't be all the way at fault. Still, he thought the chin scratching was nicer. "And I know that didn't hurt."

He was going to take so much flack for showing some kind of affection for her kitten self when she was normal shaped again.

Re: Work on Your Résumé [Awesome W6]

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2009-08-10 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
It didn't, and she had started it, but still. That hardly entered into her logic at this point. Chin skritching was nicer, enough so that she was going to rub back against his fingers.

His flicking faux pas was so easily forgotten.

When she was normal her again she'd probably be horrified that she was sitting here purring and enjoying that affection. At least it worked both ways. That'd be a fun conversation for both of them.

She'd be blaming those cat instincts, if it came to it. Impossible to ignore... Yes.

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2009-08-10 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Alex didn't really know what he'd have to blame besides the crap that he'd had to do during the time he was in that other body on that other island. Made a guy a little less volatile for awhile. Not that he was talking about that with anyone.

"See, I'm not a bad guy," he said, quietly because no one needed to hear that even if he pretty much was a bad guy most of the time. She got to see the less bad most of the time, lucky for her. He added another finger to the chin scratching, working them back and forth against the fur for a quiet moment. "Good to know that, sometimes, cats can like me too."

Griff sat wondering if he actually needed the camera to create a resume like that. Maybe he could use the camera anyway.

A camera? Leto could certainly put together a presentation, but he started with writing a speech. What point would recording video sequences be if he hadn't decided what to say?

Elena had ideas. For one, she'd need some amazing music. For another, she'd need a fan blowing from behind her, so she could saunter into frame in slo-mo with her hair blowing out. She should probably have her gun, too, for that matter ...

This was going to be amusing as hell.
