How to be Awesome | Week 6 | Period 6 | Mon. 8/10

Back in the computer lab, How to Be Awesome students would find their witty and well-groomed professor waiting in an armchair at the front of the room with a glass of scotch and a cigar. Don't ask how he managed it, just be impressed with his abilities. There was also a screen hanging behind him and plenty of computer stations facing him for all to use.

A minute or two before the appropriate time, Barney started in on his 'lecture.'

"Alright students and potential street cleaners, this week you're going to prepare to show the world how awesome you are. Someday, some of you will need to apply for a job. But come on, who can really show off what they're able to do on paper? No one Awesome. Who cares what school you went to or if you were in the Honor Society? Not anyone important. Which is why you need a video résumé. That's right. People are nothing if not visual and this," he pointed at the screen, "is the best way to introduce Barney Stinson to the world. In fact, I sent a copy of my résumé along with an introductory letter to the school board just the other day to ensure they were using me to the very best of my abilities." Oh yes, Barney had ideas.

"Now, you're going to take a gander at mine and then today I'm giving you cameras and access to film editing software right in this very computer lab to crank out an Awesome résumé highlighting the best parts of you that show why anyone should ever hire your Awesome self. Your projects are due next Monday and are your pass to participating in the final." He clicked a button on the remote and the lights dimmed for the show.

"What's with you and the looks?" he wondered, stroking her back softly and sounding amused. "Trying to tell me you're above everything but willing to let me pet you? Because I can stop."

Pfft, empty threat! It was just a little similar to something he'd said before. She found it sort of amusing herself that he still had to complain about that, even when she couldn't snark at him.

Anyway, those looks were her specialty, whatever shape she was, and even now those very blue eyes staring at him as she wound around his arm might've been sort of familiar.

Those eyes were kind of familiar now that he was looking at her. Still, he wasn't thinking of the whole human to animal thing to really place the eyes but he still couldn't stop feeling like he hadn't seen those eyes before.

"Sucking up to me won't always work," he said, almost laughing at the attachment to his arm. "Besides, you were just glaring at me. I could take offense."

She was never! Innocent of all... okay, no, not innocent, but she could play cute and innocent when the occasion called for it. Human, kitten, it was all the same, and so much easier to get what you wanted when you were smaller and softer.

... and when your target had no idea who you really were. Effy could purr and crawl onto his lap and look adorable with the best of them.

Master of manipulation. Something like that.

Yeah, yeah, he might be letting her climb all over him but he had just as much ammo as she did when she turned human again. She was the one who decided he was interesting to climb over and now she was in lap. He wasn't going to let that one go.

"You comfortable?" he asked the blue eyed cat that was now on his lap. "Want me to grab you a pillow and some beer?"

Re: Work on Your Résumé [Awesome W6]

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2009-08-10 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Effy would probably care a lot more about all of this once she was human again. But she'd spent the best part of the week cat napping on her roommate. She was a lot less against that sort of thing at the moment.

Never one to turn down cushions and booze, but that would involve him getting up, which was a lot of fucking hassle when she'd just decided he might be comfortable. Alex wasn't getting any response, other than an idle kneading with her paws to check how squashy he was.

"Guess not," he said, reaching for the camera (oh yeah, it was going to happen) with the intent of fiddling with while she got comfortable. Once that was done, he propped his feet on the desk to give her more room and make himself more comfortable.

"You usually make yourself comfortable this easily?" he wondered, turning the camera on her and snapping a quick picture. That'd be fun to show her when she was human again.

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2009-08-10 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, in fact, she did, and the cocking of her head before she circled a couple of times and settled down to make the most of that space, was about as close to a nod as he was going to get.

Generally she wasn't just stretched out on his lap making herself comfortable, but... eh, details.

Briefly, she flexed her claws against his leg, not particularly maliciously, just because she felt like it. Cats were like that, and claws were fun. One of the perks of this week, definitely.

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2009-08-10 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"Careful with those claws," he said lightly, snapping another picture since he had the camera and all. "I prefer getting scratched up during more enjoyable activities."

His mind was always dirty, Effy the kitty knew that, even if randomly alluding to it to a cat was kind of odd. Oh well.

"Glad I could help you though," he joked since she seemed pretty content on his lap.

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2009-08-10 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Effy was going to hate Alex and his stupid camera when this was done.

But right now, he was still comfy, and while she wasn't getting as much attention as she had been before he started snapping pictures, it was more interesting than doing nothing at all, or idly wondering why her roommate was so fucking weird (because this week had done nothing to change that opinion).

Even so, she did that tightening of her claws again, just in case it would encourage him to get back to the petting. That was encouragement for you.

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2009-08-10 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"Watch those claws," he said, dropping the camera next to his seat and stroking a hand down her back again. "I have spent enough time bruised and scratched lately."

Another thing she didn't know. Oh well, she could get tidbits here and there since he figured he was talking to a regular cat.

"And not in the good way," he added, rubbing her ears lightly. "You and your claws don't need to add to it."

Re: Work on Your Résumé [Awesome W6]

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2009-08-10 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, when he was stroking, she didn't have to use them, and after a moment to make sure he wasn't about to do anything dumb like stop, tucked her paws under.

Look she was actually in a pretty good mood, considering she was a cat and hadn't had any nicotene for a week and a half. She could put away the built-in weapons for a minute.

There was a lot she didn't know right now, and even as herself, it was doubtful she'd ask for clarification outright. As a cat, all she could really do was sit there and look at him. He seemed to be doing just fine talking at her as it was.

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2009-08-10 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"Thank you," he said after his leg lost the presence of her claws. "You wouldn't like it if I just pushed you off my lap so you can put your damn claws away while I'm being nice. Don't get used to it, it won't last."

She'd caught him on a good day. He'd had a pretty good day yesterday, after all. His coping skills sucked but his distraction skills were sharp.

"Any specific reason why you decided to take up with me and not anyone else?" he wondered because there were friendlier faces. Not that he expected an answer.

Effy glanced around the classroom briefly. It hadn't really been a considered selection process on her part, and she couldn't really answer anyway.

She supposed she could've gone and tried to get some of this out of someone she didn't know, or even someone like Griff or Layla that she did, but... No, somehow she'd ended up here.

And no, she was definitely not going to examine that choice.

Re: Work on Your Résumé [Awesome W6]

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2009-08-10 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm taking it as you liking me best," he joked with a grin, still thinking he was talking to a damn regular cat even if the eyes were still bugging him. Whatever. They were nice eyes. "No answer means no denial."

That probably sounded familiar considering a previous situation. Still, he had no damn idea. Idiot. He reached to scritch under her chin again, grinning smugly all the while. "You've got good tastes, at least."

Re: Work on Your Résumé [Awesome W6]

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2009-08-10 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Couldn't really reply to that this time around anyway, now could she?

And even if she could (and wanted to stop tipping her head back under his fingers to do it), she probably wouldn't give him a truthful answer. Wasn't her thing, and there was really no need to make him any more smug than he was already.

That grin he was wearing right now was exhibit A against that.

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2009-08-10 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Alex was well aware she couldn't answer but he was just using that in his favor to get the advantage over a cat. Yes, a cat.

"You're gonna be sad when class is over," he told her, grinning. "What will you do without me? Find someone less awesome, I guess."

Re: Work on Your Résumé [Awesome W6]

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2009-08-10 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, yeah, she'd probably go back to getting toted around by that roommate of hers.

Although, she was starting to get more used to Edward's oddities by now, which was something. Could almost tune out the random bouts of singing. Almost.

But again, all he'd be getting was a withering kitty stare... rather softened by the way she was rubbing her head against his hand. Totally shameless.

"I'll go smoke a cigarette in honor of this meeting," he said, teasing unintentionally. Poor her and her lack of nicotine. Maybe she'd get better soon. "You're not fooling me, I know you're not tough. Stop trying to glare."

Said the guy with the cat on his lap who was rubbing her head and ears.

Effy made a slight noise of irritation in her throat, because really, did he have to remind her what she was missing?

... it wasn't exactly a threatening noise.

Neither of them were doing that well upholding their reputations today. Too bad.

Re: Work on Your Résumé [Awesome W6]

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2009-08-10 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
They weren't but she had the advantage because he still had no idea she was a human. He was pretty slow sometimes.

"Aww, I'd offer to take you with me but I think smoke might be bad for cats," he said, snickering. "Besides, I'm really no fun when I'm not letting you lay on me."

That was a lie, he was fun all the time. Well, he thought he was, at least. Fun for a cat, though, that might be pushing it.

Re: Work on Your Résumé [Awesome W6]

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2009-08-11 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
Pretty slow. Cat in the classroom, familiar eyes, certain person with matching familiar eyes missing? ... It was probably better he was slow.

And she was pretty sure that smoking was no worse for her now than it was any other time. No good reason aside from the whole 'no real fingers' issue. Still thought it was fucking ridiculous.

Re: Work on Your Résumé [Awesome W6]

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2009-08-11 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
He was going with distracted since he'd been nothing but since that whole other island bullshit. Killing your roommate tended to do things like that.

"You owe me for being so nice," he decided with a small grin. "I've been in a shit mood for over a week now. I'm making an exception for you."

Re: Work on Your Résumé [Awesome W6]

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2009-08-11 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
Effy considered that if he'd been in a shit mood for a week, he owed her a little for helping put him into a better one.

And anyway, what the fuck was she supposed to owe him anyway? Not like she had anything to trade at this point. Hadn't dug her claws in for a while, was that not good enough?

Re: Work on Your Résumé [Awesome W6]

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2009-08-11 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
She could just remember she owed him when she was person shaped again. Her memory wasn't that shitty, he knew that, even if he didn't know it was her.

Besides, he wasn't in much of a better mood. He just hid it well. And the kitty was kind of cute and soft so more distraction.

"You have it too easy," he said, shaking his head. "Damn slacker."
